What's with the cushions?

I have some cushions on my couch (what scots people call a sofa) and some throws, mainly as I have six cats who cast fur and throws make my life easier. They also like sitting on cushions.

My bed is as plain as you like. I have a mattress on the floor, because my bed was a pile of cheap crap that fell apart in less than a year, a couple of cushions and a duvet and cover

I actually have two bedrooms, but I sleep in my box room. I want to paint it and I will, brighten it up, but my bedroom is one of the rooms in my house that Ive done the least to

Id love to say I hate clutter but ive gathered too much stuff over the years, a lot of it has been freecycled lately, but Ive never really bothered what my bedroom looks like, its tiny, has space for a double bed and has a built in wardrobe, a chair and thats that, bedside lamp as well

If I was good at DIY Id probably do more with it, but am hopeless.

I hate cushions in hotel bedrooms. Knowing that everyone chucks them on the floor, you come back at night and there they are all over the clean pillows again, complete with shoe germs and goodness knows what else  .

I've stayed in a hotel in London where the room was so small there was nowhere to put the damn cushions, and even on the floor they created a trip hazard for nocturnal visits to the bathroom. Stupid pointless things.

I do like them on my sofas though, great to reduce backache, and they stay on the sofas as there's no need to chuck them on the floor, so no germs problem.

Lol @ all the comments about the "words". How do people feel about Keep Calm And ***** ***** signs? Not keen myself, but they are everywhere so some people must like them.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

As long as your happy and its you living there then thats all that matters. It would be a dull world if we all liked and did the same thing.

    I agree :)

There is no such thing as "bad taste." It is just "other people's taste."

I have three cushions on my bed i use them to prop me up if i'm reading watching telly or on the laptop, other than that i chuck them on the floor, but i always make my bed and put the cushions on in the morning i just like it that way. We recently had an extension to the house and we have put a lot of thought into the new bedroom in all my years iv'e never loved a room so much it feels luxurious and a real sanctuary

    Yes. That's the point.

Having said that, I do have a grey faux fur cover on the end of the bed and two matching cushions in the armchair - but that's because the cats maul the fur rather than pester me at night for affection.

I find patterned wallpaper, patterned carpet, floral bed linen and suchlike as visual noise - it bellows at me, when I just want to chill out. So I wouldn't be able to sleep in a room with all those prints and canopies and crap over the walls. The walls are painted in distinct colours, but all chosen to be soft on the eye and combine smoothly with the colours from the next room. The artwork is old movie posters and graphic novel/comic based and adds more intense colours and some energy to the place.

Every male friend who has been here says that they really, really like my house. My mother, in comparison, thinks it's stark, bare and needs tatting up with random stuff and furniture all over the place. Which is never going to happen.

All I have to do now is work out what colour to paint my bedroom and it'll be finished (at last).
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

My mother has around 15 in her living room, over 2 small sofas and an armchair. There is nowhere to actually sit! I'm always getting shouted at for throwing them on the floor and making a mess - but sofas are for sitting, not looking pretty.

It's even worse on the bed cause if you get that many visitors to your bedroom, you probably don't care much what they think of it.
