What's with the cushions?

Why is it that every time I see a house makeover programme, or indeed stay in other peoples' houses (which I do quite often as a Housesitter), the beds are covered in cushions? What's the point? And what do you do with them when you go to bed? I just stick them on the floor
Anyone got any thoughts on this latest fad?

Daft. We got a couple of cushions when we did our bedroom and the only time they're on the bed is when my parents stay as they stay in our bedroom. It's been a long time since they've stayed and they're currently gathering dust in the corner0

I don't think it's a new fad. 0 -
Cushions on the bed.... seems like more clutter to me. I'm a bit extreme, ive only got one in the whole house and that only gets dragged out when hubby wants to sleep on the settee. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I like them as a decorative feature to look at, but practically they serve no purpose!
Indeed, as my urge to de-clutter grows, even the functional and decorative ones on the sofa are beginning to irritate me as they only look good when recently plumped and tidied, ie, when no-one actually uses them.
My OH hates them all!
(along with candles, colour-matched ornaments, words - "love", "home" etc - actually, anything other than an enormous television screen (for sport, naturally!))0 -

Ewww to the lot of it!
The only ornaments I have were bought as I was told my house didn't look lived in.
I put up with them for a while but they are now shoved in a box under the sink.
If I was on my own, the big telly in our bedroom would go (cant wait for that to break) and I would downsize the telly in the living room as its too big for the corner its in.
The garden.... well lets not go there ....
I have to remind myself that i'm not the only person who lives here so I bite my tongue. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

This made me laugh out loud. Our scummy student next door neighbours have been trying to sell their house. It looked like a total dive, so their estate agent took new pictures in which they had bought a metric-f**k tonne of these 'love' home' 'nice soak in the tub' crap and literally covered their house in it! :rotfl:0 -
I hate those word ones....I don't need an ornament to tell me which room is the bathroom. Hate cushions too and anything that needs cleaning but serves no purposeHave a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0

I have cushions on my bed because it looks boring as hell without them. I also have a small throw on it so the dog is nice and comfy during the night;) I don't have any of those 'word' things to tell me which room is which because so far my dementia isn't too bad.
I have candles! Under the sink in case of a power cut:D.................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -
I cant stand those makeover programmes and how the so called designers dress a room. It is all clutter and show and doesn't depict how people really live in their homes. I am a totally minimalist person and only have things in my home that make the living space comfy and enjoyable to be in, and that are functional and practical.
How does anyone find the time in the morning to carefully re-arrange x number of cushions on their bed? What a waste of energy seeing as they are just lobbed across the room at night again so you can get into bed to sleep. I also cant stand those word ornaments 'LOVE' 'HOME' 'COOK' 'SOAK' 'BATH' 'ZZZZZ' etc. What is the point of them?! My sister came unstuck when my niece went round her house gathering all the letters up, only to make a rude word with them and place them on her fireplace :rotfl:
Don't get me started on candles. Whoever is responsible for creating the scents of most of them obviously lost their sense of smell way back! The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0
