ATM they are often getting reposted which can lead to people duping themselves etc.

yes please send them for moving back or if someone has duped it back on the main board send it as a normal merge request and when we merge them we'll use the correct title from the dupe

Sorry I used to get them out of GO & put the right title & a link to the original post,

But on one of the threads in the compers chat corner I found out I should not do that.

I obviously don't now I Pm a BG

If post two didn't have the link just the bit about amending then it would go into GO if the Op didn't amend.

Some peeps thank anything; does it really matter? Unless there is some sort of prize for number of thanks it really isn't a big deal.

Classic thread though manages to cover all the bases from my first post.

If we ask nicely and explain why would people be offended? I don't know.

Ones that are self promotion get reported and removed anyway.

Just throwing ideas out there to see what might work.

that's what i'm trying to say,
if post 2 hadn't put the link in just the bit about amending the title someone else would have come along & added it anyway,
so would you pm say, pm barnabysue
(no offence just using a post as a reference)
or the next poster to have added it or just post on the thread
'please don't add the links' until the op has changed the title ?

& if the op doesn't change the title it goes to GO,
then we're back to square one.

If in post two it says please amend title and also says please don't post the link until the title is amended that might do it.

If it goes into GO and we know the end date we could then pm a BG to get it back with the correct title and add the link.

but who's going to tell everyone who posts the links in post 2 each time to ask the op,

'please amend title and please don't post the link until the title is amended'

there's a lot of posters that post the links straight away
in the 2nd post without checking it's SP/a dupe etc

unless you or someone is going to find every post that it happens with & can get in the 2nd post before anyone posts the link.

If no one can stop people creating wrongly titled threads, posting in the wrong area, posting comps that are self promotion etc, how on earth can anyone stop people posting links when they think they are being helpful?

Sorry to be a pessimist, but this is an open forum, you can't control what people do - and really it's not the end of the world if a link is posted and a new comp is posted wrongly, is it? I reckon about 98% of the threads are correct, the wrong ones may be annoying but c'est la vie

We may just have to accept that the few who aren't aware it's best not to post the link in the 2nd post, until it's end dated and titled properly, will probably do it, but the rest of us make an effort to try out the suggestion.
