Just a thought re incorrect competitions postings

Not usually one to start threads on here but wanted to share a few thoughts on dealing with competitions which haven't been posted in the correct way and/or by newbies.

Often what happens is the OP can't put in the link so the second post does this. Then a third post mentions the end date isn't done in the correct way. Then a post to say it a duplicate followed by a is this self promotion post. I know I'm exaggerating a bit but there does seam to be a pattern.

So what if we do the following steps:-

1) Is it self promotion? If yes report. I know it might not be obvious but sometimes it's Twinkle Toes posting for a comp at Twinkle Toes Ltd.

2) Is it a dupe? If yes request a merge

3) Does it break any other forum rule? ie cost to enter

4) If none of the above post the link to the competition and ask the OP to change the title to include end date in correct format.

Just my thoughts and I know I have posted links before now without doing steps 1 to 3 but I thought it might keep things neater on the main board and I do like tidy.

    I'd change that to

    4) ask the OP to change the title to include end date in correct format, when and only when it has been changed add a link.

sent pm's to the op but they've not come back to do it,

Then not posting the link would work.

Is there a link between those not coming back and self promoters?

If it a genuine competition could we pm a BG to get the title edited? Does that work?

If the title doesn't get changed it goes to GO.

As long as people don't enter if there is no link then, if appropriate, it can be reposted in the correct format with no problem of possible dupe entries.

Is there a link between those not coming back and self promoters?

Yes, certainly in some cases and I would guess probably in most.

you can't stop peeps posting links on them,
peeps have been asked loads of times in threads the same as this before to try not to add links if the comps not properly titled,
    but peeps will do :)

Asking nicely on the threads for links not to be posted?

Some people don't read threads on the chat board but might go back to look at comments on a thread they have posted on.

Or if somebody is posting a lot of links pming them?

Poke them with a big stick if they do!

Realistically you cannot, although if it were made an automatic PPR offence to add a link then it would only happen once per user id (no chance)

I just want to say good for you Moneybot for starting this thread, the only way to find if there is a different way to do things on the comp board is to talk about it

I don't have any ideas yet on what could help & I'm with you it does get annoying when there are three or four posts to get the comp posted correctly, then for the op to totally ignore them, or not come back & look at the thread they posted.

Perhaps when we have our new BG (hopefully someone around in the day time) they might have some time to alter the titles to the correct format before all the bumping? or perhaps when a BG see's a comp needs to have the correct title once they have done it take off the bumped posts if that's possible for the BG's to do?

worth trying yes, but don't think many would take to being told they shouldn't post.

Not so much shouldn't post but do a different type of post.

I do like the big stick idea....
