Hi LL30, I was awarded standard PIP for both and i'm also in the support group for ESA. This means i qualify for the severe disability premium too like you. They also owe me back dated money from November 2013. On 26 August i sent a form off to apply for this and on 8th September i rang ESA and was told they hadn't received my form. I was told someone would be calling me within 3 hours. Had the call and person said she'd looked through all incoming mail and my form wasn't there! she asked me to send another and put "urgent esa update" in red pen on top of form. Luckily i already had a spare form at home, so sent it off within 1 hour of call. Monday i rang to see if they'd received it.... NO. Fed up by this point decided i would contact my local MP. Had an immediate reply which said DWP will be contacted on my behalf to see what's going on. I will receive a reply shortly. Yesterday i had a call from ESA telling me that the 2nd form i sent hadn't been received!! So because of this reason she asked me some questions over the phone. She then told me that she would be issuing a payment to me but because of the amount it would need to be checked by someone higher than her. Told me i'd receive the money in 5 working days into my bank. She told me that they'd recently moved offices and because of this reason there's be so many forms gone missing. If i were you i'd keep ringing them to check they've received your form. I wouldn't trust them at all. So happy that mine has finally been sorted. Now i can book my holiday :D sorry for the long post but wanted to warn you. Good luck xx

Thanks for the heads up! I rang them today. They said they hadn't had the form...but they did do it over the phone for me, so that bit should be sorted now. And the guy was really lovely, and so helpful that he is trying to track down my letter about my student funding stopping too. If that gets sorted too, I really can start to relax! xx

Well, part 2 of the saga! Finally had a small payment from PIP yesterday but some numpty had input claim date as 31/7/14 rather than 31/7/13 so backpayment is a full year short. I have rung them and they said they will look into it but couldnt put a timeframe on it. I honestly thought it was all sorted for us and now this. Sorry for the rant but they are taking the mick now and it all delays my daughters help.

Ouch! It really is just adding insult to injury isn't it. The guy I spoke to today said that they're having real issues with the volumes of work that they've got at the moment, but to give him his dues, he was as helpful as he could be. Hope they get it sorted soon - maybe your MP if not? xx

Just to warn anybody that has a home visit that they turned up 2 hours earlier that my appointment and sat in my road for a while watching my house then telephoned to ask if they can come earlier than expected. They are sneaky and are trying to catch you out. Naturally they will report on how you walk from answering your front door to walking to your sofa. They will ask you to perform some movements of arms legs etc but if you know that performing that action will result in pain you can tell them this and not have to raise your arms for instance.
You need to tell them how many days of the week of month are good days. You need to be clear what a typical day is on a bad day and when asked what a typical day involves on a good day but stress that x amount of days are bad days.
I recorded my home assessment on my phone and ipad to be able to listen to at a later date if I had any problems. It is quite interesting to hear my questions that I answered fully yet still only received the normal mobility rate. I believe that I should have quailed for more and so am in the process of appealing my case. It was really useful to have the recording of our conversation to be able to type out some of our conversation to back up what I have already told them. Naturally they want to give you the lowest amount of PIP and hope that you will not be able to go through the stress of appealing there decision. Good luck everybody and be prepared 2 hours earlier than the agreed time just to be ready and not to be stressed more than you already are on the day.

  • Hello!!

New member here. I have a quick question to those keeping track of how many weeks it has taken for a decision.

Are you counting from the date of the initial phone call or the date DWP received your completed form?

Hi, when people ask the question "how long for a decision?" they usually mean after the assessment has taken place. Mine took 2 weeks after the assessment. 40 weeks from the first phone call.

My son got his decision letter yesterday.

I wasn't expecting it yet, but it seems they've taken it from the date his original DLA form was received, not the PIP form that they then sent out with a stated date for return.

So they've done it within the stated time-period.

He will get both personal care and mobility element, though it is lower than what he was receiving on middle rate DLA.

The payment is being backdated, but I don't know how long they will take to pay it to him.

Mid rate care DLA is the same as the standard rate care on PIP.

Can you get help from CAB or similar? If this was me, I'd write that I need help, why, give an example and how another person can help. If aids are used, explain their limitations, any help needed in using the aid and why you still need help from another person.
