Sorry I should have been clearer! My DLA has been paid up until 9th September, but as before I was only on LRC, it was £20 a week and I did not qualify for any premiums on my ESA. With PIP I've been awarded standard for both components, so around £75 a week, plus I will get the premium on my ESA of around £60 a week - a significant increase. My ESA is currently only £15 a week as they are trying to update my claim, and the premium has to processed, so although the ESA will all come right in the end, it's no good in the meantime.

I understand why they have made the rules that they have for migrations, but it hits you hard when your award impacts other benefits as it has with mine. I applied in January and the first payment will be in October. I'm thrilled to have got the result that I have, I'm just stuck in a very hard place at the moment. So I'm a bit moany! I shouldn't complain about what I didn't have in the first place, but I'm very fed up of the constant stress. In some ways I wish I had not got the paperwork in on time and foregone the DLA payments, as then I would have got the back pay for both the PIP and ESA. Might have been a gamble, but might have been worth it!

On the upside, I submitted my paperwork to Uni this morning for emergency funding. They have processed it and have said I will have an answer next week. That light is getting closer (I hope!) xx
Hi LL30, I was awarded standard PIP for both and i'm also in the support group for ESA. This means i qualify for the severe disability premium too like you. They also owe me back dated money from November 2013. On 26 August i sent a form off to apply for this and on 8th September i rang ESA and was told they hadn't received my form. I was told someone would be calling me within 3 hours. Had the call and person said she'd looked through all incoming mail and my form wasn't there! she asked me to send another and put "urgent esa update" in red pen on top of form. Luckily i already had a spare form at home, so sent it off within 1 hour of call. Monday i rang to see if they'd received it.... NO. Fed up by this point decided i would contact my local MP. Had an immediate reply which said DWP will be contacted on my behalf to see what's going on. I will receive a reply shortly. Yesterday i had a call from ESA telling me that the 2nd form i sent hadn't been received!! So because of this reason she asked me some questions over the phone. She then told me that she would be issuing a payment to me but because of the amount it would need to be checked by someone higher than her. Told me i'd receive the money in 5 working days into my bank. She told me that they'd recently moved offices and because of this reason there's be so many forms gone missing. If i were you i'd keep ringing them to check they've received your form. I wouldn't trust them at all. So happy that mine has finally been sorted. Now i can book my holiday :D sorry for the long post but wanted to warn you. Good luck xx
  • Thank you poppy12345, its just a matter of time now then, so going with everyone elses timescale, i have a few weeks, seems as though some are having to wait 40 weeks +. I am only 25 weeks in so cant complain really. X

Just wanted to let you know that mine went to audit but was passed to DWP 3 days later (well, I think it was only 3 days!) and I had my result just over a week later! I can't remember the exact time lines (it's on this thread somewhere!) but I wanted to say that you could be lucky and get an answer within the next couple of weeks. Hope you're awarded what you deserve. Good luck.

  • I made my first call to the PIP Claim line in mid July, I filled out and sent off my form a week or so ago, special delivery, which cost £6.40! I got a text to say:

'We have received your PIP2 'How Your Disability Affects You' form. You will be contacted by a health professional if you need to attend a consultation. It can take 26 weeks or longer for an assessment. You do not need to contact us unless your circumstances change.'

So I guess I can expect a 6-12 month wait now (and I thought JSA took forever!) until I hear any news? Is it worth calling once a month to chase up the progress of my claim?

Luckily I'm working so I'm not desperate for the money, but it would really help me to cut my shifts down and give my back a break!

What's the average wait from them receiving your form, to you receiving a decision and payment? Sounds like forever is quite accurate.

    Thanks in advance all.

There are a few answers to that!
    A) Assessment happens at the same rate it's been going for the last couple of months.
    B) Assessment speeds up so that at the end of the year (as the minister said) 16 weeks is the maximum.
    C) The DLA reassessment of 1.2 million working age people starts to kick in.

A - leads to a wait of 8 months between a fresh case, and getting it out the door (assuming things stay the same. (Apr)
B - ... Neglecting for the moment DLA, assessment rate would need to more than double in order to clear the backlog that far. (Jan)
C - There are 1.2m people of working age getting DLA - this is 40 months of 'normal' PIP assessment.
A doubled assessment rate would chew through the claims of that last 16 weeks in 8 weeks (Feb) and lead to reassessment of everyone on DLA being completed in 3 years or so. (who knows)

It would not surprise me - if this schedule is kept to (this would surprise me) - that the remaining claimants on DLA who are over 65 or under 13 or so now, start being reassessed for PIP in 2 years or so - with legislation introduced next year.
  • Hi

I have just stumbled upon this thread - really interesting and helpful !
I applied by phone on 15th April & am now in the system with an expected date of November for next steps with Atos.

I spoke to my doctors admin today and they have confirmed that they have had no requests for any information from anyone, I guess this means that my form has been processed as arrived and then put in a big pile & nothing else done to it yet ?

  • Everyones timescales are so different.
I applied via phone early February, had my F2F mid August with Atos (so friendly and helpful), and received my decision and bck payment 3 weeks later. Start to finish 7 months for me.

  • Well, part 2 of the saga! Finally had a small payment from PIP yesterday but some numpty had input claim date as 31/7/14 rather than 31/7/13 so backpayment is a full year short. I have rung them and they said they will look into it but couldnt put a timeframe on it. I honestly thought it was all sorted for us and now this. Sorry for the rant but they are taking the mick now and it all delays my daughters help.
