I've just phoned the DWP. They confirmed that they received my Report from ATOS on Friday (20th June) and it was passed to a decision maker at 8.30 this morning! She told me that they were given new instructions on Friday and that they now have to tell claimants that it can take up to 6 weeks for a decision to be made. At least the waiting is 'nearly' over. By the time I get my decision it will have been over a year since I first applied!
That is shocking kittykat17, shame on them!

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)
  • Hello all been following for a while and thought id tell my story so far... First rang pip in June last year, had a f2f with Capita in April and Dwp had my report back 13th May. As of yet no descision even though it will be 6 weeks this wednesday since they have had my report!. Requested twice a phone call back and today they rang to say its waiting for a case manager to look at it still and they cannot give a timescale! Hubby told them that call centre staff are now told to say 6 weeks so why lie really. All he could say was its a new benefit and they are really badly back logged. Sounded like he was reading from a script in front of him. So fed up with it all as is everyone here. Fingers crossed we all get our decisions soon :) we live in hope x
  • I am in the process of applying for this benefit. I applied originally in August 2013 then I queried it in September to be told it hadn't been received. I applied again on the 11th November 2013 several phone calls and emails later I demanded something done and 37 weeks later I have had my medical today but do not know when I will receive my decision. It's a joke.
  • I thought any PIP award was backdated to the date of application if you were awarded a PIP award and were a new applicant.

However if you already had a DLA award and were transferring to PIP then the PIP award is granted something like a month after the decision is made.

So for example if you got High rate mobility DLA and no care but were transferred to PIP enhanced care and mobility the care award is only paid from after the date of the decision (but the DLA you are on continues to be paid until the decision is made) if that makes sense.

That's my understanding anyway, I am happy to be corrected if I have that wrong.
Sorry, I must have misunderstood, I thought you were referring to a new pip claim and then a subsequent carer's allowance claim. I'm not sure how it would work with a DLA to pip claim. What I'd do know is there is a disadvantage to some DLA to pip claims as 'renewals' aren't backdated to claim date. Not sure DWP will be in any rush to resolve this anomaly.
  • The government has launched an independent review of PIP.

Hopefully the investigation and subsequent report will make some positive difference to future claimants.

Hi, have had to re register as old sign on not working but have been following this thread for a little while.
I have helped my daughter (22, still at home) to apply for PIP last July 2013.
She has severe contamination OCD, anxiety, depression, a duplex kidney system, impaired kidney function, kidney reflux& scarring, hypertension due to kidney problems, Dyslexia and Dyspraxia.
I rang ATOS weekly at first re an assessment then upped it to daily in May and then after I put in an official complaint, finally got an assessment for her last Monday 16th June. Tbh, I don't think it went well at all. The assessor insisted on my daughter answering virtually everything herself and then proceeded to put a positive spin on everything she was told. My daughter cant cook or prepare food as she wont touch the ingredients so I do all that, she wont drink properly despite nagging as she doesn't want to use the loo, has to be walked anywhere by myself or her dad as she is so focused on the ground and standing on something she thinks is contaminated that she has had to be pulled back from the road when she has walked in front of traffic. She cant manage her finances, the compulsion to buy shedloads of cleaning and personal products has decimated her finances. She wont socialise except on facebook as she can bleach her laptop. Everything that doesn't move is bleached for hours at home destroying woodwork/paintwork etc and her arms are red raw, cracked and bleeding from this. She wont take her medication as she wont touch the bottles/boxes so I have to give it to her and even then she takes them with the tiniest sip of water from a glass I have to hold. The list is endless but the assessor just spun everything "so you keep in contact with friends, you can eat a sandwich unaided etc.
Received a letter from ATOS dated 18th June to say report gone for auditing. I sent a stroppy email to complaints dept saying this is totally unacceptable and haven't received a reply. I really need to get this settled, its been almost a year now. Realistically how much longer will we probably wait. Due to the assessment I am expecting to have to appeal and frustrated doesn't come anywhere close to how I feel.
