Grandcat having extended 'sleepover'!
Comments
-
GS2 day today - I didn't get to go over town - I forgot to take painkillers and by the time we got to school, I was finding walking difficult so came home. and I really needed my stick just to walk the final few yards from bus stop.
so a bit of Rest and Recuperation this afternoon - that's ok I enjoyed the Tennis and played with my rubber bands!
the grandgirls then arrived for sleepover (and I cant wait to tell you all what happened..........). we played board games for a while then I went out to get suppers.
two of them wanted Ravioli, so I put it on the stove to warm up, and Barnes decided to jump up on the cooker right where the pan was! one screech of startled cat, one screech of startled nan who accidentally knocks Barnes off with a wooden spoon - who thankfully lands in his water bowl cos his paw is on fire!!!!!!!!!!!!tries to pick him up but he scarpers upstairs closely followed by me, thankfully the fire is out...........but the house stinks of Burned cat fur! Barnes has singeing on his paw, his tummy, his front end and under his chin!!!!!!! he is sulking on bedroom windowsill now! checked him VERY carefully and his skin is fine, no sign of burning and its only the ends of his fur which got burned. no skin affected.
he has NEVER done that before! he usually jumps up onto worktop by windowsill and it was clear enough..........Dunno what he was thinking of!0 -
As long as his skin wasn't burnt, it's ok. Well, ok as in as much as it can be seeing as the cat caught fire! Hopefully he wont do that again in too much of a hurry. Poor Barns though!
Cats, hot tin roof, paws of asbestos, not really. But sometimes you do have to wonder about the mentality of them. We had an old cat who would bat the lit tealights. Cue the singed fur, stinking to high heaven, and we stopped using them. Mad cats!!
Bet that was a bit of a shock for youLots of cuddles, TLC, and some G&T's (for both perhaps ;-)) and he'll be right as reign.

Poor Barnes! And poor Meri! That must have made you jump. Glad to hear you both survived the ordeal with no serious consequences, G&T definitely sounds like just the thing (of both varieties) good suggestion lifeform
What will 'hernextdoor' think of a slightly singed Barnes? Not quite the look he would be hoping to achieve...0 -
I first have to apologise for not posting last night - no trips to A&E, no emergency trips to vet - I was reading a book after supper and ...............fell asleep!!!! OH woke me at 11.40 or so asking if I intended sleeping on settee! I don't DO that! fall asleep by 8.00pm I mean........embarrassed now ............I feel such a CHILD!
too late and too tired to post, so I went to bed and slept until 8.00......jeez, I cant remember sleeping so much, and I aint even poorly!
Old Age?
I always thought they needed less sleep not more! lol
enough about me................you all want to know how Barnes is.
he is absolutely FINE! his paw had no trace of burns and his chest and chin was only slightly singed. the worst thing is..........his face is a bit stained by the whack with the tomato sauce laden wooden spoon I inadvertently gave him.
we wouldn't know what 'hernextdoor' thinks - Barnes has only made a quick trip out to check his perimeter and have a quick drink from the birdbath - spent most of the day upstairs on windowsill........probably contemplating revenge for my walloping him with a saucy spoon! we have had some lovely sunshine - but, Barnes is not interested today. Though I do feel I am forgiven, but on probation.
grandgirls came down for sunday lunch as did Atrix and his wife.......Barnes was there for a quick 'meet and greet' then disappeared. he is outside at the mo, but hiding under the potato plants, he can see but not BE seen!
when I picked him up in garden yesterday I saw a flea on him and managed to pick it off with my fingers - this morning he was obviously 'flea-bitten', so gave him a flea tablet, he is much better now. I must buy some more.
he PURRREDDD loudly during G&T today, he is really starting to enjoy his sessions. pressed for time today, but, I MAY start to do his legs and paws too. he has really hated his paws being touched - but then he didn't like being groomed nearly a year ago!
Cocoa, my son Atrix's cat, lets one of the grandgirls file his claws with an emery board!!!!!!!!!!!!! (not to mention paint them with nail varnish).0 -
bit late tonight sorry - was on ancestry doing some detective work!
Barnes threw up a hairball today! and has seemed 'out of sorts'! Ate ok though! but not very sociable - preferred to nap on windowsill!
but jeez, his poo stank today! he didn't even have to yowl to have me run up and remove it!
Barnes came down for his G&T and I took the comb down his legs ..........but paws are 'out of bounds' apparently! nope, I cant touch his paws!
I was sleeping last night and woke to feel him walking up me! wth! he settled against my back, purred loudly for a few seconds then fell asleep! okaaay! fell back asleep and when I woke Barnes was still there! unusual - he usually likes to warm my head or the windowsill!0 -
Barnes and I had a lovely day - boring for all you! just chilled out - Barnes on various windowsills and me playing with rubber bands!
its strange, but Barnes wont go outside even if its sunny - and next thing you know its piddling down! he seems to know if its going to rain heavily. a light shower he doesn't mind................heavy rain keeps him indoors.
progress on G&T - he let me stroke his paws while grooming him! looked at me a bit 'askance' but didn't object to me lifting his front paws, stroking them and putting them down. slowly slowly 'catchee monkey' I think. his claws need clipping - they are 'catching' on some rugs.............but he hates it.............I will leave it a bit longer.
lol, I should have asked his human 'sis' to file his nails - he may have let her! the kids can take 'liberties' I cant!0 -
today was GS2 day and I came home fully expecting to see Barnes on kitchen windowsill. Nope! went upstairs - no sign of him. came down calling him and he was sat on decking yowling at French doors! now, I know I didn't let him out this morning.........I never do on GS day. GS2 must have - cos the doors were unlocked! my valuables were still here though, so Barnes must have been a good 'guard cat'! or it was too early for the local 'bad lads'!
apart from that, the day has been uneventful! lovely though, very sunny but quite a brisk breeze - I suspect showers tomorrow! barnes and I sat outside all afternoon - me on my chair, he on his! apart from when he decided to snooze for a while in outhouse on a rather large metal toolbox.............??????
just remembered - he has to have tapeworm tabs today! will do that in a mo.
I have no plans for tomorrow - aint that nice? I can do what I LIKE!
this 'retirement' thing is great! I love it!0 -
no showers - just a lovely sunny day! less breezy than yesterday - which seemed to please Barnes! he was outside nearly all day! I got his chair out and he was happy to curl up when he wasn't patrolling the perimeter or gazing longingly up at next doors 'temptress'!
for some reason he felt a bit 'loving' this afternoon and when I was sat out at the decking table, he jumped up on it and put his paw on my hand (I was playing with rubber bands at the time), then, when I looked at him, he stretched up and 'bumped noses' with me!!!!!! sat back and 'catsmiled' at me and did it again! ok, he wanted a bit of affection, so put my loom down and stroked his back and 'crooned' to him. (he likes a bit of crooning - babytalk, and all said in my best 'comforting baby' voice). more smiles and nosebumps! he licked the tip of my nose and then jumped off the table as if he had been shot! strange cat!0 -
GS2 day today and it didn't follow usual format as OH was here and took us to school. Barnes did his usual 'meet and greet and off for a nap'. at least he didn't get shut outside today!
very warm this afternoon - so warm, Barnes spent most of it in the shade. as did I! under the sun umbrella.
Grandgirls here tonight for a sleepover and Barnes enjoys that - they always play with him and sneak him treats. Left him behind the curtain in their bedroom (he didn't think I noticed him sneaking in there), and I was hardly out of the room before I heard him jump off windowsill - I bet he was snuggled up with them before I got downstairs!0 -
He really does sound like he's very happy there! My bundle of fur is a bit up the wall atm. Midst of packing in current flat, and away for several hours during day time trying to ready the new flat. He has several sleep spots. The standard middle of living room carpet spot, in the way of everyone, a large wide window sill which has a carpet tile on it, and a nice wee foam mattress, and his box.
His box is special. I put it on the bedroom window sill about 2 and a bit years ago and he claimed it. It's all collapsed in the middle, and I threw a rug on it last xmas for him, but it's his box. I recently made up several boxes in the bedroom, and stacked them on his box. Cue me being woken up with him throwing them off in disgust. So he's up the wall and not really very impressed currently. He comes to me for a quick stroke and looks at me as if to say I don't understand, why does everything move all the time. He's going to lose his box as well, as when I moved it to clean the windows a couple months ago, it's got a bit of mould on the back side. RIP box! I will have to look out for another one for him!
He's going to love the new place though, sun all day through the front windows, large wide sills. He'll have to get used to having people walking past often though!
Day off today for me from painting. Going to a friends birthday all day drop in party, so he's on his own again. Mind you, when I come back he's usually never moved from his box on the window, till he spots me!0
