Phew!!!! I feel very fortunate! was expecting to be struggling to school with GS2 in high winds and heavy rain, but, it was a bit damp and breezy! don't know where my head was but we managed to leave his book bag on the bus! Arrggghhhh - I have all the hassle of trying to get that back now! phoned bus company after 4.00 (as the driver of the next bus advised), but he said to phone back in morning after the buses had been checked overnight. then if I am lucky and its been handed in, I get to go to depot (of course that's two bus rides away and a bit of a walk) to pick it up. if it hasn't been handed in then I will just have to give him the money to buy another bag from school and offer to replace his reading book. I should have paid more attention!
Barnes has hardly moved from me all day - even though it hasn't been TOO bad. we did get a violent hailstorm though. and the garden has had a bit of debris flying in - and out again, rofl. so not too much clean up to do tomorrow.
tried to distract Barnes by playing with him - but he wasn't interested. well, if he WANTS to sit and cuddle..............I aint refusing the offer!!!!!!!!!!!!0 -
Tell me, you lovely pet owners in the 'danger zone' that is Britain this month................how are your pets reacting to this awful weather? I cant help wondering how on earth people who have been flooded for weeks are coping with their pets? especially those pets who are usually allowed outside?0
-
well, book bag not been handed in. not left on bus. so, I had to inform his mum and as I am not having him tomorrow (his dad has a rare weekday off and wants to take him to school), I had to phone the school and explain that I had lost the dam thing. and I would send a donation up to the school next week to cover the cost of the reading book.
Barnes had a puzzling day today - one minute its fine and sunny and the next its been hailing down or thunder and lightning. all Calm at the mo - just waiting for tomorrows storm to come in after midnight. poor Barnes - he would look out the patio door and it was nice and sunny, he goes upstairs for a nap and the next thing the 'outdoors' is trying to come through the window! it does it to annoy him you see!0 -
Barnes seems much more 'settled' today. at least he wasn't running up and down stairs every time it rained hard or hailstoned! perhaps, like me, he is starting to regard this weather as 'normal'.
he was sat watching out the patio doors and I wondered what had grabbed his attention.............there was a flock of birds attempting to fly 'against the wind' so they appeared stationary in the sky! and they weren't little birds either - jackdaws I think, we get loads of them round here. and seagulls, especially if weather bad on the coast. No sign of any today - they must have gone even further inland. the gulls are a bluddy nuisance - once they spot food they will chase off even the jackdaws and magpies. and those feisty jackdaws and magpies take on buzzards and win! The buzzards don't feed from gardens though, they prefer roadsides next to fields. where the council kindly provide 'high perches' (lamp posts), so they can spot prey in the fields - and the odd bit of roadkill.
will have to pop to P A H tomorrow - the local shop got webbox treat sticks in as I requested some............but they were salmon - and Barnes cant eat fish! I try not to go there between food shops, cos I know I will end up buying him more toys, and there is this battery operated thingamajig I have been umming and arrrring over. Its £12! which I wont begrudge if he actually likes it and will play with it. just not sure how to teach him to operate the remote control on it! (joke).
he slept with me again last night! against my back this time - he probably got fed up with me puffing and blowing his fur away! and I got a 'kiss' goodnight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I felt him jump on the bed and make his way over me, then he crept up beside me and I felt his breath and fur tickle my mouth, then my nose and I got a 'cat lick' on the forehead! lol0 -
Got Barnes his Webbox sticks this morning, and yes, I did pick up another toy for him. not the £12 gizmo, but a little mouse that squeeks when you tap it! he didn't look impressed until I batted it over to him and it let out all these squeeks! He pounced on it then! its been batted all over the living room, he sat and played 'mouse ping pong' with me for a while then carried it off by the 'tail'. he 'hid' it under the stairs. be interesting to see what he does with it.........
He is still a bit suspicious about the weather, but I think is coming round to thinking the wind is all over. he had a nice bedroom windowsill nap earlier, but has rejected his cushion pile for cuddling on OHs lap.
I can hardly keep my eyes open tonight - feel so tired after a week of interrupted sleep. not as young as I used to be and cant bounce back as quickly.0 -
Barnes must have retrieved his mouse because it was under the dining room table this morning.
We played with it for a while after 'groom and treats'. but, he is losing interest..........wonder if he wants it to run away or something? perhaps a clockwork mouse?
No grandkids this weekend - I felt really tired so had to turn down requests for sleepovers - but I did take them 'up grans'. Atrix - watch K after she has drank 'carbonated drinks'! one small glass of pop and she was 'hyper'!!!!!!!!! and tbh C wasn't much better! they were fine before they had a glass of Shweps lemonade. after, they both went 'doolally'. G wasn't affected at all.
Barnes is having a windowsill nap upstairs. OH is watching the 'Baftas', so I guess Barnes isn't interested! its just people walking and talking aint it?0 -
my Giz isn't interested in toys much, but he liked ribbon, string and feathers.Cats don't have owners - they have staff!!DFW Long Hauler Supporter No 1500

Hi all!
I think my mum is definitely trying to catnap my lads. Harley has returned home from his holiday to Grandma's but Blackie (despite a health scare whilst we were away) and Scrappy (who is no longer on his "chill pills" whilst at Grandma's) are staying put. Neither seemed that fussed that they were staying and Harley was going home either.
I think Casper is missing Blackie though. Casp likes to curl up on Blackie when he's asleep and I think he's missing his buddy as he woke us crying last night then ran up to sleep with us when I went down to check on him
Oh and Harley has fleas! How??? In this weather???0 -
trouble with fleas is that rain doesn't drown the bu99ers! I swear they hide outside the door ready to hop in. We need a spell of real cold weather to kill them off.
so Blackie and Scrappy are now semi-permanent or permanent residents of your mums home now? lol glad that scrappy can do without his chill-pills though.
bbl - with the daily Barnes 'news roundup'. I like to leave it til about 9.00 because its his best awake time between 5 and 9. apart from groom and treats at 12.45 he naps nearly ALL day! just coming down to check on my whereabouts every hour or so!0 -
Barnes treated me to a display of him in 'stalking' mode today. I was reading a book and watching TV about an hour after groom and treats when I heard him coming downstairs. now, normally, he pops in the living room, jumps on sofa and has a stroke and cuddle then goes back up to nap again. Today he appears in archway (dividing living room from diner) and FREEZES - staring intently out the patio doors. I have a look, and there is a blackbird having a bath in the huge plant saucer I leave out on the gravel part for the birds to drink from. Barnes then proceeds to move very very slowly towards the patio doors. so slowly that you would swear he wasn't moving. his body was completely still, his eyes focused outside. he didn't make a sound (and this from a cat with huge paws who I can 'track' by listening to him). it took him more than five minutes to move the 11 feet from the archway to the patio door. he watched the bird intently for a minute or so more then looked up at me and squeeked! as if he was saying 'if it hadn't been for those patio doors mum, we would have had blackbird for dinner'! he watched that bird fly up to the feeders and lost interest. but I did get a cat 'kiss'! before he headed off upstairs for another nap!
hmm - he didn't want to play this evening - or watch tv with OH! and I just found out why...........I had left the door to spare bedroom open and he was people watching in the front bedroom window! at least this time he had only pushed the vase ornament to one side of the windowsill, instead of onto the floor!0
