Grandcat having extended 'sleepover'!

another wild, wet and windy day! I got absolutely soaked taking GS2 to school today! bus was ten minutes late. (actually it was fifteen minutes late but it is ALWAYS five minutes late anyway), so we were late getting there! Then, getting home - I was so glad to get in, strip wet clothes off and have a nice shower and change into warm dry clothes!!!!!!!!! my coat was so wet its only about an hour ago it dried out! Even my knickers were wet!
and then have a cuddle with a purring warm cat! cup of tea and some hot buttered toast - Heaven!
BArnes definitely doesn't like stormy weather! I opened the door to front bedroom for him as he loves windowsill naps, but is avoiding the rear bedrooms, because of the rain hitting the windows I think. but he can still hear the wind...........so he has spent most of today as close to me as he can get. even HALF on my lap! tonight's' forecast isn't good - I bet he will curl up on his pile of cushions on the settee that OH has arranged for him.
He still wont take Dreamies from MY mouth! Barnes, not OH. but he will take a piece of webbox cat treat stick! if I persevere perhaps Barnes will take Dreamies!0 -
Meritaten, my cats aren't enjoying the wet weather either. I opened the back door for Harley kitten last night, he took one look at the rain and ran to the front door. So I opened thefront door and, surprise surprise, it was raining out that way too - Harley was most unimpressed:rotfl:
Had to take him to the vets last night as his bottom lip looked infected. The vet said he has cat acne and has given him some meds. Oh Meritaten, my lil' boy is a teenager!0 -
cat acne????????? dear lord! lol, never heard of that! Teen Cat eh? at least he wont be playing heavy metal at full volume and sneaking girls into his room!
OH had to do a 'split shift' so Barnes is missing his evening 'TV watching buddy'!
Bless him - he had his supper then looked all over the house yowling loudly for OH! his 'OI, where are you?' yowl. which got more frantic as each room was empty of OH! I felt so sorry for him I got some treats and we played with laser pen again.
Barnes likes to have his supper, then settle down with OH to watch TV. OH piles up all the cushions next to him (carefully ensuring the softest one is on top). as Barnes WILL lapsit him - but digs his claws in OHs legs. Barnes will happily stay there for hours! and he does 'watch' the TV sometimes. he seems to like rugby (so does OH) gets bored with 'Grand Designs' so he kips then. doesn't mind a bit of snooker or football. and 'talking heads' bores him into stalking off upstairs and going to bed early!0 -
Meritaten, and to think it wasn't that long ago that OH wasn't particularly taken (allegedly) with Barnes. Now they're best buddies
Harley's off to Grandma's tonight as we're off on holiday tomorrow so she'll now have 3 of my cats (the other two stay at home as they don't like the dog and little Grandad pops in daily)
I'm wondering how many cats I'll be bringing home after my holiday...mum seems quite happy with Scrappy & Blackie being part of the furniture now.0 -
OH is still pretending not to like Barnes - but he has been well and truly 'outed' on a number of occasions now............he even takes a keen interest in Barneys food shop! makes suggestions even! I told him today that Barnes missed him last night and he went red with pleasure! cute huh?
hopefully, your cats will keep your mum occupied his missus, you may even have to leave them there!
right now I wouldn't want to take on another cat or dog. Barnes is enjoying his only cat status so much. I do get the occasional dog visitor, Stella, my other sons dog - but she is so delighted to see me and so focused on me that she hasn't even noticed there is a cat in the room! I delivered Stelly's only litter of puppies and since then she has had a 'soft spot' for me. I also used to babysit grandson down their house for a couple of years so she is well used to me.
Barnes goes all 'slitty-eyed' when Stelly comes in though. He doesn't like it one bit.0 -
a busy evening! got the grandtwins plus GS2 as his dad has been called into work and his mum had arranged to go out.
Barnes is rather put out that they have taken over 'HIS and OHs settee'! he is windowsilling the kitchen. probably waiting for them to go to bed so he can have his settee back!
This wet windy weather is not to his liking (or mine). he cant settle anywhere for long. and he seems to have lost interest in playing for more than a minute or two. strong gusts of wind distract him and it seems to make him want to hide.
its bedtime now - for the kids I mean!0 -
My Eric can't abide dogs. When my brother & girlfriend bring their bichon frise round, Eric heads straight to the top of the fridge freezer and sits hissing down at the dog. I have visions of them curling up together at bedtime when doggy stays with me but no chance.0

I totally forgot Barnes groom and treats today! was so busy with the grandkids, and cooking Sunday Roast it went right out of my head!
so, we did it this evening. I tried again to get Barnes to take dreamies from my lips - SUCCESS! he took four! I didn't enjoy the experience much though - jeez his fur TICKLES!
Shop hasn't had his Webbox treat sticks in for a few days - and we are running low! Not sure which he likes most - treat sticks or dreamies............the treat sticks are used when his grooming session is over, and he WILL swallow them whole if I don't break them up. I see a trip to town in my near future - and the weather forecast says it better be sooner rather than later!
he 'hung' with the grandkids this morning - who virtually ignored him - they were having fun! felt a bit sorry for him - he reminded me of the 'outsider' trying to hang out with the 'cool kids'! but always on the periphery.
one thing I do know - Barnes is NOT in the best of moods! he didn't come greet me when I came home from mums, minus grandkids. he wouldn't let me pick him up, he has been complaining to OH - who is a bit bemused as to Barnes problem.
Hopefully, now he has had his groom and treats (and ok he got 'extra' treats), his mood will improve - and I gave him his very favourite supper! (which surprisingly is turning out to be the P A H sachet of Seriously Good Chicken). that's now all gone and plate licked sparkly clean! he didn't leave any for Ron either!
Hopefully I am now forgiven!0 -
Barney is currently on kitchen windowsill - which is strange, cos normally he is comfortably ensconced on his pile of cushions on settee watching TV with OH!
but, there is rain or a storm coming in. I can almost 'feel' the drop in pressure. the forecast is for heavy rain. I think Barnes is expecting a bit more than that!
we have had a lovely day - mostly sunshine with a few light showers. Barnes did a bit of 'birdwatching' from the patio doors. we had a lovely cuddle and he got lots of nice naps in, up in the rear bedroom. alternated between the windowsill and the pillow on the bottom of the bed.
groom and treats - I used the treat stick rather than dreamies to encourage Barnes to take from my lips (yyyeeeeeuuuuch! they DONT taste nice!). but, its better than the furry tickle I get from the dreamies! and Barnes 'cottoned on' much quicker! we played a bit with laser pen, he does seem to like it! or rather he likes the extra 'treats'. he is in no way overweight so extras are ok I think. in fact I think he could do with a few extra pounds!
I am getting lots of 'squeeks' from Barnes, as soon as I go to investigate he settles back into sleep mode! perhaps he just wants reassurance I am here?
oh well - lets see what weather the night brings!
edit 21.31 - Barnes has just relocated on to OHs lap. and ignored his cushion pile!0 -
Barnes nearly got into bed with me last night! was a bit 'windy and wet' out side and the rain was directly hitting the window. must have been some hail in it too, he doesn't like that. So he cuddled up as close as he could get. on my front side, and virtually under my chin so I was constantly puffing away 'fine cat fur' from my mouth!
Bad weather set to come in again after midnight - Oh Joy - I get to take GS2 to school in a storm again!
seems it is going to be a bad one - Ive checked I got candles, matches etc. just realised that if leccy goes off - I cant check website for if school is open or closed - the text message goes to his mums phone not mine! and she will be in work! relieved I have an old CD/Radio player and I have the right batteries for it! now, before I go to bed, I have to find out what programme school closures will be on and tune the darn thing in.
I may be paranoid - but its not unusual for the power to fail here during a very bad storm - and this one sounds very bad!0
