I did say that Barneys fur is growing back nicely didn't I? except where I put the 'Spot-on'. for some reason it forms a line down between his neck and shoulders - like a parting! and the fur isn't growing there.it is getting more noticeable as his fur is growing back. This makes me think its either the 'chemical' in spot-ons or the carrier medium. that would account for the dramatic fur loss and dermatitis. plus the bluddy fleas! nearly all scabs now healed and he seems to have stopped 'itching' apart from one area near the tail.......I am tempted to rub in some olive oil, but, he licks that area a lot - would it be safe? I think it would be if I was sparing with the oil. but will reserve judgement. Must research it to see if cats tolerate olive or sunflower oil. cant use cod liver oil as he doesn't cope well with fishy products!

Meritaten, some people on here recommend spraying catmeat with cooking oil, especially if it's gone a bit dry if it's been sat about for a few hours in a bowl as it refreshes the food. I've tried this and not only do they eat the food but it does give the coat a glossier feel.

I'm sure a small amount on barnes' skin wouldn't be harmful if he licked it.

Thank you! I didn't think a bit of olive oil will harm him! but, cats have funny intolerances, so I will just rub a little in when grooming him and see how it goes!

Sneaky little bu99er! OH was getting ready for work this morning at about 7.15, and as its not my day for GS care I snuggled down for a nice 'lie in'. hmmmmm Door closed behind OH and I heard Thud Thud Thud up the stairs and Barney jumps on bed. and thrusts a wet face against mine! yeeeuuuch. gets tissue and wipes face and settles down again. But, Barnes cant get comfortable, tries curling up against my front, then walks over me to curl up against my back - no joy, comes round to front again and becomes all 'loving', I get nuzzled and another wet face! plonks Barney on HIS pillow and he immediately walks up my leg, over my hip and up the torso to 'bat' my hair! plonks him down in front of me, curl up and try to 'doze off'. Barnes wasn't having that! I got his nose stuck against mine as he 'inhaled' me! That was it! I was wide awake and needed a wee! so got up and came back into the bedroom to find Barnes comfortably ensconced on MY pillow and looking smug!
goes off downstairs muttering curses on Persian Cats!

Well, I put about a teaspoon of 'extra virgin olive oil' (thought Barnes should have 'the good stuff') on my fingers and rubbed it into the base of his spine. His skin was scabbiest there, and he gave me a dirty look and licked it off! Exactly what I wanted him to do! I know if I put it on his food he wont eat it! should have been a little penetrated to his skin so hopefully it shouldn't be so dry if I keep doing it!
btw, did you know that olive oil combined with sugar makes a wonderful dry skin treatment for hands and feet? I have done this for years as I suffer with dry skin. I also take my make up off with it. On the very rare occasions I wear any!
what you do is put about a teaspoon of sugar in your hand then tip in about two teaspoons of olive oil (or any cooking oil in an emergency), then 'wash' your hands with it for a couple of minutes - use neat liquid soap or a touch of washing up liquid to rub in and break down the oil then rinse under hottish water. dry and your hands should feel lovely.

his human siblings came down this afternoon - and after about half hour he went up and set off the 'booby trap AFTER using his poop tray! little sod!
He seems to prefer to poo in the tray by the bath and uses the covered one for Wees!

Girls then got engrossed in the Lolcats thread - so he got bored and wandered back upstairs for a nice refreshing nap!

oops - curses weren't directed at ALL Persian Cats - just one in particular!
If he does it again tomorrow he will be ejected from the room and the door firmly shut! I am so tired today as it was my 'sparrowfart start', that I am grumpy!

I posted the following on my other thread about 'Pets visiting after passing on' last night. Thought I would just post it on here too!

The grandgirls wanted to come down mine for a couple of hours so their mum asked me to meet them halfway. Now this is fairly wide at the part they walk through but narrows to a very dark overgrown path on my side.

The girls were waiting for me and started shouting greetings as I approached, on the way back down the path they asked me where the cat had gone? er, What cat? the three of them aged 9 and 5btw all said the yellow cat that had walked up the path with me - K even said she thought that I had brought Barney with me!
There was NO cat with me! I certainly didn't see one! and Barnes was on the kitchen windowsill! he isn't allowed out unless on harness anyway!

The only thing I can think of is that my previous cat Nicki had decided to 'tag along' as he was a British long haired Ginger and white and could be mistaken for Barney at a distance!

It was so weird - the girls were adamant that they saw a yellow cat walking with me!
btw - this was about 4.40 in the afternoon and the sun was shining!

    Poo Wars - Meritaten 15 - Barney 0!

though he has set off the booby trap a few times! AFTER pooing in tray! I tried to order through animed tonight for Drontal for him - I am not sure order went through! I do not understand their system for 'registering' pets! I thought I had done it right but an hour later my order was still 'processing'!
will check later whether it went through! I accidentally closed it down! oops!

I would actually be quite careful about routinely giving 'cooking oil' to a cat...some oils can be toxic to cats.
Why not buy a jar of duck or goose fat which all the supermarkets sell these days....give a blob to the cat a couple of times a week and make some tasty roast potatoes for your selves with the rest!

The only thing I will say as he's setting it off after doing it in his tray, make sure it doesn't spook him enough to become frightened of doing it in the tray. This is mostly down to if the booby trap goes off whilst he's using the tray, rather than him doing it, then being a mischievous so and so and investigating afterwards.
