Thanks Paddypaws and slinky. Fleas - Nope! his spot on was only five weeks ago and the first thing I did when noticing him scratching was check for fleas - cos if I get bitten I get an allergic reaction! so I have always been paranoid about pet fleas. no sign of fleas at all!

THIRTY SEVEN QUID???????? jeez I was expecting it to be about £20 - £25! think I will check with son as I know he has used it in past - just not sure if it was when Barnes was there!
A dry diet results in normal looking poo - too much 'wet' food including chicken breast can result in liquid poo! so he only has a small amount for his supper, then I put his dry food down before I go to bed as he may want a midnight 'snack'!

I had to go out from about 10 this morning till about 4.00 this afternoon - quickly ran up and checked the bath and litter tray - no poo, came downstairs and while I was making a cup of tea I heard him jumping in the bath - ran up and caught him 'in the act'. 'Bad Cat Barney'! he slunk off and sulked, then realised he hadn't been groomed and had his treats so came downstairs and tried to 'charm me'!
  • check out the link I gave above it was £17 from there. I wouldn't pay £37 either!

er - Grovelling apologies to those who suggested fleas! I am so sorry, but you were RIGHT! I was out most of today so haven't long groomed him - I found flea dirt right on his side and ONE flea up nearer the neck! I have to assume there is more than one since the scratching started over the weekend so will be off to get some Advantage in the morning - I will probably be at PAH at the crack of dawn! I will never sleep knowing there are fleas in the house!!!!!!!!!! I get such a bad reaction to insect bites. as he is a 'housecat' I can only assume that either I carried one in or he picked it up in the garden during one of his 'sojourns under the hazel tree (or willow tree).

I need some sleep too as I am exhausted and my back is playing up something chronic!

not had a good day so the question of whether I have strong painkillers or a bottle of wine is a 'moot point'! lol - wine will work!
  • I recommend this http://www.animeddirect.co.uk/indorex-household-flea-spray-500ml.html?utm_source=pricecomparison&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=googleshopping_free&utm_term=Indorex+Household+Flea+Spray+500ml&utm_content=107&gclid=CIfY7_XW1bkCFePHtAodeVUA8w

you spray your house and it lasts for 12 months. You can get it from vets and probably pet shops but it will be alot more expensive and its not that urgent to spray it, treating the cat is the most important thing that needs to be done ASAP

I feel you for my cat gets de-fled but I still get them occasionally (normally when it is near the time for him to be re-treated) It is a horrible feeling that they are in your home. :(

barnes had his 'spot-ons' applied - Me and OH are 'experts' at this! from having used them on First Cat - who would fight like a tiger if he suspected whats coming! I sneak into kitchen ready the ampoule then shake the treat box/bag, unsuspecting cat runs into kitchen (or in Barnes case 'saunters', receives one treat from me and OH smoothly moves in for the 'lift', while tucking cat deftly under one arm (he used to play a lot of rugby so it was second nature to him!), with just enough head and shoulder showing - while paws are safely grasped!!!!!!!!!!!! two seconds later cat is eating second treat while wondering what just happened! lol

I was up Atrix's today (he has been on hols and I have been looking after the cats) and was sitting having a cup of tea. Cocoa decides to give me a friendly head butt - unfortunately, I had just raised the full cup to my mouth and got a huge mouthful of hot tea, the rest got washed over my cheeks, down my neck and soaked my boobies!!!!!!!

Then, when I was cleaning the litter tray Cocoa kept headbutting me in the Butt! OH was laughing and said to Cocoa 'try the other end'! I must have been on form cos I said straight back 'naw - he feels so bad for drowning me, now he is kissing my A$$'!

(Cocoa is a gorgeous American Rag Doll - but the other raggie Miley is almost identical! I only know them apart, cos Miley is the only cat I ever met that doesn't like me!)

Oh and after placing the clean litter trays back and filling them with fresh litter, I hadn't even moved away when Miley stalked past, gave me a look of utter contempt, then proceeded to kick half the litter out of the tray! THEN had a poo! ooooohhhh, so I used too much litter did I?

Barnes fleas are dying (painfully I hope), and I have learned a valuable lesson - spot ons do NOT give five weeks protection and I MUST use them religiously every four weeks! no prob, and thanks to iammumtoone it wont cost half as much!
I am so grateful for that link iammum - would thank you a thousand times if I could!
Barnes had GS to play with this morning - again he got up at the ungodly hour of 6.45 when he heard him coming in. Real sacrifice on Barnes part - normally he wont wake before nine and expects to hear his breakfast hitting his dish before he comes downstairs!
Barnes looks bluddy awful! no neck fur! he has scratched it all away and all I can see is three flea bite marks - he must be as allergic as me! He is eating well though, now he has me trained to buy Sheba in Sauce or Applaws chicken breast! just for his evening meal as he has PAH dry food in the day - apparently this is the only one he will eat!
oh dear (was gonna say oh sh*t, but restrained myself), this is turning into the poo thread!
was out all day yesterday and Barnes used the litter tray for his poos - today I was home for most of it and the little bu99er poohed in the bath twice! okey dokey - time for 'Plan C' - or is it Plan D?

I think you're getting through it pretty well actually!

Poo issues, I'd suggest moving the tray away from where it is, I know you don't want to do that, but a spare piece of laminate under neath it and put it elsewhere. Maybe in the hallway, or by the back door, and keep the bathroom shut at all times and see if he does it all in there. You need to break the habit, but only way you can do that is to restrict access to it, shower curtains don't work!

Fleas. make sure to do your house as well, spot ons work on the cat, not if they're in the house. I gave up on frontline as it did nothing for any of our cats any more. This does seem to be a common theme by some users, if you google, and use another one. We've used Advocate but I can't recall if that's the current method. To be honest we've not had to do the cats for months as both mums, and mine (separate places) are flea free, and they're both indoor cats which help.
Just what ever you do. Those Bob Martin products, run a mile from them, Curse them, never look back at them again, and keep running. Never use any Bob Martin product, flea spray, spot on, or collar (in fact I stick with no product/item from them at all). There have been dreadful reactions with them, frankly with them all if we're honest, but imo Bob's is the worst, and I would never risk my piddly cat with it. (love him really!)

Not much you can do with bare skin, if in a few days it's still raw and itchy, take him to a vet for some cream of some sort to help soothe it.

Also I think you should change the title of this thread to newly adopted GrandCat living it large! :D:D:D (ad post more pictures :P)
