When I woke up Barney was perched on pillow keeping his sisters head warm! K woke up too, and he came down to breakfast as it was gone 9.00am.
Success!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Barney Poohed in the Portaloo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
early days yet, but at least he did it without being 'caught' in the bath! I was wondering if I had spent £30 for nothing!
I have been using ear mite treatment as his ears are none too clean, although I thought the 'scratching' was just a normal cat 'thing', when I looked closely I thought it might be ear mites so bought some drops for it. He DOES NOT like these! seems to be working though, his right ear looks quite clean and his left ear is clearing up nicely!
quick question Atrix - have you ever cleaned his teeth? I haven't attempted it yet but he will have been here a month tomorrow and I need to know if I can do it or should the vet?
another quick question - have you ever bathed him? I was horrified to read on the London Persian Cat site that they recommend bathing once a month!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what the efffffff? to my mind only cats which have got noxious stuff over them should be bathed! Toooooo Stressful - not just for the cat but for owner too!!!!!!!!!!! Have nightmare memories of bathing Timothy! You need full body armour and nerves of steel to bath a cat!0 -

sort of a mixed day today! I caught Barney having a poo in the bath and told him off! an hour later he poohed in the Portaloo! Not sure what to make of that! perhaps just patience is needed!
Grooming - he is accepting the comb as well now! before, each time he spotted it he was off! so I was just leaving it by the treats and picking it up now and then but not using it! His coat is regaining some gloss now. He is grooming himself much better now too.
He voluntarily sat on me earlier! cant say sat on my lap, as I was led down at the time, and it was more on my tummy! which he gave a good 'knead' to first. I was dying to laugh, but didn't as I didn't want to offend him! he was only there a minute - but still, its progress!
I am really tired tonight - so this is a short post as I am off to bed in a mo! Barnes has read my mind and already turned in!0 -
At least Barnes is using the portaloo, maybe he just needs to break the "going in the bath" habit. I find cats are very much creatures of habit.
When Harley was a teeny kitten, he would sit on the bed and wait until I'd thrown my facewipe int he bin and go and retrieve it to play with. Now at 5 months old, he waits, retrieves it then just leaves it on the floor. Whenever he hears the rattle of the packet he just appears on the bed.
Three of mine (Harley kitten, stressed Scrappy and old Blackie) are off to "grandma's" tomorrow whilst we're away on holiday. The other 2 stay at home as they don't like dad's dog and the other "Grandad" comes in to feed them. I'm looking forward to 17 nights of sleeping in a cat-free bed :rotfl:0 -
Barnes panics now if he is 'going in the bath' and I come upstairs - little bu99er 'knows' I don't want him doing that! he shoots out at the speed of light! as happened earlier on today - so I left a bit in his litter tray. I may keep the bath wet to discourage him........or perhaps all the kids bath toys left in bottom of the bath? hmmmm, on second thoughts if he ignores the toys and does it anyway....do I want to clean the toys?
No way am I bathing a perfectly clean cat! I don't intend to 'show' him and as long as his coat is tangle free - I am happy and Barnes seems happy!
He was happy to see his 'dad', 'mum' and 'siblings' (human) today! played with C and GA for a while but...............I couldn't believe this........he let them groom him with brush and comb without having to be bribed with 'dreamies'! He must think when I am grooming him 'what a sucker'! or is he just a soppy cat with kids? to be fair, the girls were ever so gentle with him and he was there lapping it up!!!
I have never seen him show a claw - even when I first started 'de-matting' him, he never tried to bite or scratch, just used his paw to push my hand away or tried to get away. such a sweet natured cat!0 -
today - yet another upset tummy! Barnes not me! dearlord! it was totally liquid! and in the bath! I suspect it was all the 'treats' the girls had been feeding him yesterday (I am sure the 'dreamies' bag was nearly full not nearly empty!)
he is hungry and not very pleased with me today for withholding his food! sorry Barnes, but 'needs must'! your tum needs time to 'settle'.
he did voluntarily Pooh in litter tray - so progress! and then I caught him in bath - lol (don't tell him but I can hear him jumping in the bath......lmao. he must think I am psychic!) so he scooted out and went in litter tray.
So Sorry! I seem to be concentrating on Cat Pooh here! but, I know if I don't solve Barnes 'Poohing in bath problem', OH is NOT going to be amenable to me keeping him.
I have a thought that if Barnes will not use the litter tray for both pees and poos - I may use two trays. but, I think he just needs to have the bath habit broken. he WILL do poos in the litter tray and he seems to like the covered tray.
Talking about litter trays - I think 'mother cats' must teach the kits to scatter a bit of litter around the tray to ward off evil spirits! I could accept litter around an 'open' tray............but, all around a 'covered tray'? every ruddy day I have had to take up a dustpan and brush because the litter is scattered all round the litter tray! no way could it get there by accident! (he trails it across the landing too).
Good job I love this cat - cos he is hard work in some ways.
Then he comes up to me today and rubs his face against mine and I just melt.............0 -
OMG! I just watched a youtube vid of a Persian cat (peke faced like Barnes) having a 'lion cut'! am furious! the cat ended up looking totally ridiculous! !!!!!!! its a 'domestic cat' not a bluddy lion! Poor thing - he was hauled about in a very rough manner!
Why on earth do people think that looks attractive? is it just Americans or do they do that over here?
rofl - they wouldn't be able to do that with Barnes - he wouldn't stand (or lie down) for it!0 -
OK try this:
he hates having bits inbetween his toes you cant even touch his paws without him backing off first, so the litter maybe putting him off, and he's resorting to a needs must basis when he caught in the bath.
he's obviously liking a smooth surface to go in, perhaps, use some paper instead you know the junk mail type panflet paper of chinese menu types that get shoved through the door every other day or glossy mags?0 -

This is why I got a lidded litter tray as Harley must have been a rugby player in a previous life the height and distance he can lick litter. Tikka manages to get it stuck in her paws and trails it all ove rthe house too.
Did you try your idea of leaving water in the bath to deter him from using it?0
