meritaten, I started a blog when we got Harley as I wanted to chart his progress because with all my previous cats it just seemed that one day they were small and the next they were grown up. I haven't kept up with it though
Scrappy sems a bit more sociable with the other cats now he's back on the Ovarid but he doesn't seem to want to spend much time with us at the moment. He's playing with Harley again which is nice.
I hope Barney's body clock is back to normal now0 -

I will try not to disappoint! It is soooooo good to have feedback!
Thanks all who post! or read for that matter!
Today I woke up and wondered where Barney was?????? not on the pillow and not at my feet. Then there was this 'stench'!!
OH JEEZ - went into the bathroom and there was this awful pool of Poo in the bath! Yeauuuuuuchhhhh! Poor Barney really did have the squits!
Cleaned it up (you don't want details).
Decided that Barney should have just dry food left for him today - didn't want to starve him if he was hungry.
He has been very quiet today - mostly he has just slept right outside bathroom! he has appeared downstairs - insisting on his treats and grooming! Well, maybe not the grooming bit!
I watched the weather forecast and it said rain over the weekend! I had planned to go Blackberry picking so decided to go today instead. spent a couple of hours picking down the local graveyard and the waste ground near the Drs. then walked into village for a couple of lemons and sugar from the greengrocer. caught bus up the hill home (its only two stops but I really couldn't face the climb!), I now remember why I stopped going blackberry picking - my poor back doesn't like it!
came home - groomed Barney (but his treats were limited) and made Jam!
for £1.50 I now have four large pots (I mean really large) of homemade blackberry jam (blackberry is my favourite jam - and do Jam companies make it? naw - you sometimes get 'bramble' jam, but it doesn't taste the same).
Barney woke up enough to come greet me and investigate the cartons of berries I was carrying..........one deeply puzzled cat! what the hell was I doing bringing home this stuff?
He doesn't seem to have had more er, tummy trouble - tho right now he still outside the bathroom. I cannot figure out what caused this - everything he ate yesterday he had had before with no problems!
hope there is no repeat performance - for one thing I missed seeing him on the end of the bed this morning! and his 'smiles' as he watches me wake up!0 -
his tummy is sensitive again? maybe due to hoovering treats into his guts like a child hoovering in some long spagetti without chewing.
make sure treats are given long after his food, if he over filling his guts will cause him to have gastric gas and stools and make him unwell for a day or two.
no more treats for a few days, solids foods and provide him with enough water he gets thirsty when his guts go bad..0 -
I think I am addicted to Barney updates.:o
Meritaten.....I would give him plain boiled chicken for a day or two, along with the broth it is cooked in. Much better than dry food to settle a tum.
In fact if he is prone to 'Dire Rear' I would be keeping away from grains as much as possible. Would he eat raw at all do you think? Could be worth trying him on a ready made raw such as Natural Instinct which you can buy in some local stockists.0 -
I'm loving Barney's exploits Meri.
We're on cat hospital mode here as my oldest boy got trapped in some brambles by his big fluffy tail - sadly by the time he was found his tail had lost circulation for too long and most has had to be amputated but he's healing well and doesn't seem to have any balance issues. I'll be glad when we can get the collar off him in a week when the stitches come out though. .... I let him out for a few minutes today -and he climbed into the nearest flowerpot to use as a litter tray - two feet from the nearest flowerbed <sigh> Still at least it wasn't the bathI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
Oldest GS told me that cats don't usually like him either! (probably something to do with the fact that both of them have Aspergers?).
When we first got kittens my AS son got quite annoyed the cats would snuggle on my lap but not his.....I explained it was because his movements were quite sudden and unpredictable and if he calmed down they'd settle with him. Over time he learned to do this and they happily snuggled with him -so yes I think the Aspergers is a factor.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

his treats were limited to ten dreamies! he feels deprived now! I think it may be because I ran out of the webbox stick treats and was giving him vitacat ones? will cease and desist use of vitacat - thank gawd local shop has had more of the webbox ones in. will let him have one when his poo is normal again.
He always has fresh water Atrix! I change his water three times a day!
He has just had the Applaws 100% chicken breast (with a little stock and rice). even warmed it slightly in the ding for him this evening as I put half the tin in fridge after his lunch!!!!!!!!
his poo was slightly runny this morning, a bit firmer this afternoon - but I couldn't believe his cheek! he KNOWs he isn't supposed to go in the bath - but he did, and then yowled loudly for me to come clean it up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He is vocalising more and tbh - today was like having a Siamese about the place! rofl! he has the most weird yowl!!!!!!!
he is a bit like a dog in that if he hears the front door open he runs like hell to see who it is! he loves visitors!0 -

i didnt say you didnt prove water im just advsing that he needs more of it to prevent dehydration during his unwell spell.
the bath thing, im woundering whether his breeder and subsequent import owner may have allowed him to do it so its clicked in his mind thats what is what he is supposed to do, take liter out the bathroom and close the door untill he uses the litter tray as he is supposed to?.0 -
Got his new covered litter tray this morning. oh boy, its huge! I call it the 'Portaloo'! took a whole bag of litter to fill it. of course Barnes came up to see what I was doing and watched with interest. I scratched around in the litter and solemnly explained it was for 'pees' and'Poos'! so he obliged me by having a pee! I left the flap up as I wasn't sure if he was familiar with one.
dammit if he didn't poo in bath an hour later. instead of disposing of it I buried it in the new litter tray. see if that works! The filter works - I cant smell it! even with flap open. if this doesn't work then I have a couple more ideas - I really don't want to relocate litter tray - tbh its so much easier and hygienic if I just have to clean poo out of the bath!
Barnes likes to accompany me to the bathroom - and watches me with interest. he sometimes did a wee in his litter tray when I was having one - not sure what he made of me having a poo though - tho this evening GD noticed he was checking out the toilet! hmmmm - my first cat sometimes used the loo if he was caught 'short' - tho he was an outdoor cat.
yes, barneys human sis is here tonight - to his delight. they played for ages - fave game of Barnes of course.........ping pong uppa stairs! I got K to throw the ball right up the stairs and Barnes was waiting on the landing - she found it hysterical when the ball bounced out of sight then Barnes batted it back over the banisters and down the stairs! THREE balls missing now! wonder where he has hidden them!
so far Barney hasn't been allowed into the front spare room - I keep the grandkids toys in there - I accidentally left the door open this evening and hearing noises from there I investigated - to find Barnes trying to open the door of the dolls house and dislodging all the toys which were on the open top floor. didn't faze him - he wanted in!
apparently, opening pop bottles does faze him! K laffed cos when I opened a bottle of pop for her, the Phfffffffffttttttttttttt sent him racing up the stairs in a panic nearly knocking her over!
Grooming is going well - he seems to be tolerating more brushing in more areas! Clipped claws as he was getting velcro'd to the rug again!
swapped the doormat for a coir mat - he was interested and seems to like lying on it. wth? its rough and he thinks its good to lie on? my 'oh this is good for claws' routine was greeted by a definite 'smirk'.
Honestly, Barnes seems to be getting 'attached' to me. I cant go out in porch for a ciggy - he wails in protest at me being the other side of a door! then settles down as near the door as he can get - so when I come in I have to say 'Barney MOVE' - otherwise he gets bashed!
I don't have to teach him to 'heel' - he does it anyway! he follows me around (unless of course he is fast asleep - then as soon as he notices I am 'missing' he hunts me down! then tells me off by yowling loudly!
now I wonder who he will choose to sleep with tonight? his human sis or me? I bet he will spend part of night with sis, part on landing and part with me! he isn't going to get much sleep!0
