aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarghhhhhhhhhh - shower curtain not deterring him today. Poohed in bath TWICE! and he has pulled out most of his neck fur!
I am at wits end! I don't have a clue why he is doing this - except that the flap on his portaloo has mysteriously closed a couple of times. Removed flap now!
I am going to try Feliway - cant think what else to do! now he spends a lot of time kipping upstairs when I am being boring, do I plug it in upstairs or down? ADVICE PLEASE!
oh, and what should I do to prevent him scratching any more fur from his neck? make him wear a kneckerchief? stitch him a wide felt collar?0 -
Feliway is fantastic. I've posted about it on here before, I had a cat from the rescue centre she spend the first weeks hid behind furniture nothing would encourage her out. I plugged it in and within 5 minutes she was sitting on my lap
I would put it in your main living area at first as that is where you want him to feel relaxed, if you don't notice a difference you can always move it.0 -
So far we have found Feliway to be having absolutely no effect whatever on our new kitten. She just will not stop jumping and clawing at the curtains and any other thing hanging down. She has knocked many of the books off of the floor to ceiling bookshelves. She managed to switch the broad band off and the radio on. She cannot be left anywhere civilised and has to be watched at all times. We love cats but am beginning to actively dislike this one. We have had to remove every ornament in the house. She is spending a good part of the day in "stir" in the utility room. She is being neutered tomorrow so we are hoping for some improvement. But not optimistic at all.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
My girl appears to actively hate Feliway. She will avoid whichever room we have it plugged in. I'd plug it in where he spends most time, you might even want to move it about.0

Yes I have read on here as well about some cats not liking it, seems to be one of those things, either they love it and its like a miracle cure or it has no effect at all. If you can afford to and its not going to leave you short I suggest you give it a try.0

I can afford it and if it has no effect will just pass it on to son for his cats!
er, I don't recall seeing it in Pets at Home, do they stock it, does anyone know? and...........do you pronounce it Feeliway or Fehliway - I don't want to look like a numpty if I have to ask for it!!!!!!!!!!
Many thanks for the prompt replies!0 -
Sorry I don't know where you can buy it "off the shelf" hopefully others may be able to help there, personally I would look on amazon and the like, even though you can afford it no point in spending more than you need to
This one seems very reasonable http://www.pet-supermarket.co.uk/Products/CN41006/feliway-diffuser-pack-includes-1-diffuser-andamp-48ml-vial-refill- although I haven't used the site personally.0 -
It hasn't all been bad today! I was crouched on the floor with my family history research printouts trying to work out if I had right family, and Barnes came up to me and I felt his nose on my cheek, and he licked it! Oh saw that and said 'he really likes you doesn't he'?0

They have it in Pets at Home in the Health section near the flea stuff. It will be locked in a cabinet so a staff member will open it and get it for you. It's £37 for the plug in diffuser and a month's worth of fluid. I called it Fell-i-way when I asked for it on Saturday. Can't say if it works as we bought it anticipation of taking in a rescue cat which in the end we decided wasn't right for us so we are still looking.

Sorry to hear he is being problematic again.
I do think that as per Slinky's suggestion, you need to consider Flea Allergy Dermatitis...one single bite can send them off on a scratching frenzy and set up a cycle.
I would also strongly suggest that you look at his diet....both in terms of the itchiness and also the bath-pooping. Many cats do react unfavourably to grains in dry food and treats, but improve once on a more natural diet. I would say that Persians are known for being 'sensitive' to these issues.0
