Grandcat having extended 'sleepover'!

just realised its DAYS since I last posted!!!! and its Sunday again! where did the week go?
well Barnes is spending less time in the garden as the weather is definitely getting colder. Unless he can find a sheltered sunny spot he is back in within ten minutes - then twenty minutes or a long kip later he is wanting back out again!
Had Ava on her usual mornings this week -plus a couple of odd hours here and there and she is delighting in emptying Barnes toy basket and ignoring her own. Barnes doesn't seem to mind one bit - he usually just sits on the end table above the toy basket and waits for her to toss out something he fancies playing with. Considering how nasty he gets with visiting dogs and cats who have the temerity to even LOOK in his basket - Ava is lucky he likes her!
I had to go back through my calendar for something, and noticed a note about Barnes heart murmur check - oh SHOOOT! I never did get that done! BAD OWNER! must arrange that soon. its not a high priority, it just needs checking to ensure it isn't getting worse. Vet recommended every six months or so......................8 months isn't too bad is it?0 -
Of course not Meri and you have been somewhat distracted recently.
When one of my nieces was younger she used to love posting all the cat toys through the cat flap. The cats never particularly played with any of them but Blackie did used to sit there looking rather disgruntled or maybe he was just confused by her actions
Took Harley to the vets yesterday as his top lip at the right side looked a little odd, kind of swollen, a bit of a John Wayne curl going on. Ummed and ahhed over whether to take him as he seemed ok, he was eating, still playing and didn't seem out of sorts. Poor lad has a nasty infection inside his mouth, there was all this solid gunk (can gunk be solid?) up by his gum and inside of his lip. He had to have 3 injections and he's still looking sorry for himself today. Got to go back tomorrow for another injection and check up. He's only been back 8 weeks and we've been to the vets 3 times with him already!0 -
The aftereffects of Harleys mysterious disappearance perhaps his missus?
Yeah gunk can go solid - I suffer from frequent cysts and if they burst fairly soon, are sort of like 'snot' but if left they do get rock hard and have to be lanced. sorry for the graphic account but I don't know how else to describe it!
jeez - I think vets should have loyalty cards for frequent customers, perhaps one free visit after 3 or 4?
I have a free week childcarewise! DIL has arranged to have this week off as its half term. that will feel strange - though sort of nice to have the option to have a lie in - I always seem to get up at the same time though!
Barnes came down expecting Ava to be there - looked at me as if to say 'where is she'? then decided to have breakfast before going to check his perimeter.0 -
I think my vets should do gift vouchers, I'd know what to ask everyone to get me for Christmas and birthdays
It looks like he has a couple of tooth/claw marks on his lower lip, so I'm guessing he's been scrapping with another cat.
Will Barnes let you have a lie in?0 -
Sorry I've been a bit awol again and I really hope you don't mind if I have a bit of a rant! Here goes - remember back in May when I mentioned having to go to court? Well it went horribly wrong for my nephew and the consequences have been spectacularly horrible! Firstly dd and myself sat through 2 days of absolute lies, a lawyer that didn't know what on earth he was doing and a female judge who totally judged my nephew upon first look. He was convicted and we were all completely astounded, my brother (his dad) and sister in law were witnesses and the judge never took any notice of their testimony, it was totally incredible. My brother was then sacked from this job when his boss found out about the conviction (going to a tribunal as we speak) they were forced to move house with 1 days notice as my nephew was barred from our hometown, my dd had just started her higher exams which took a massive blow as a result of the stress and we have appealed her results and been told that the SQA won't move her results up at all....aarrrgghhh !!
So as you can imagine my head has been all over the place these last few months and I just really needed to get it off my chest, I really hope you don't mind ramblings which probably make absolutely no sense!
Due back in court in a few weeks as he is also accused of breaking his bail conditions which is utter garbage as he was in the house eating his dinner at the time, but now we have a new lawyer so fingers crossed this will be thrown out. We also have an appeal lodged for his original conviction but in the mean time he is having to do community service of 150 hours and will probably have finished it by the time he is found not guilty (hoping and praying we get it overturned). So sad that the law can get it so wrong and ruin a 17 year olds future and the ripple effect on everyone is just ridiculous.
Good thing is that all the police and social workers on the case all said that they totally believe that he is innocent, only the blooming judge who is known as 'the convictor' by the lawyers at the court didn't seem convinced
Anyway I hope you enjoy your free week Meri and I hope your doing ok xx0 -
awww Nonnie, how awful for all of you! feel free to come here for a rant and tea and sympathy anytime!
I do remember you mentioning your nephew a while ago, and your complete belief in his innocence. unfortunately some judges just do not seem to listen to witnesses or even the evidence and come up with some bizarre judgements. I do hope that the new lawyer can overturn this for him. in the meantime I will send positive thoughts your way!
his missus - if I stayed in bed all day it wouldn't worry Barnes........provided SOMEONE supply his food and let him in and out.0 -
Oh Nonnie, that sounds absolutely awful. I can't even begin to imagine how any of you must be feeling. And I'm sure Barnes won't mind you hijacking "his" thread to rant for a little while
Cats make extremely good listeners...especially when they're waiting to be fed. Rant away, Nonnie, and get it off your chest xx
All went well at the vets and hopefully we won't need a third visit. Hubby brought Harley into work yesterday aft so we could go straight to the vets and he became a bit of a celebrity. One thing we did learn about Harley is that he prefers females over males as he was quite happy to be cooed over by the ladies but not so keen on the IT guy. Even my cat disliking colleague had to admit Harley was "cute beyond words".0 -
nonnie - Barnes doesn't mind a bit if you want to come here to 'vent'. He sends his sympathies and some consoling 'pats on the arm'.
his missus - good news about the vets - its awful when you are 'frequent flyers'! but - at least Harley made new friends at work! Male cats do tend to prefer female humans I believe, probably because we make such a fuss of them! and being male they looooovvvveee that!
So for the last couple of days grandtwins have come down - so of course Barnes gets fussed over - and extra dreamies and grooming! I lie and say he hasn't been groomed yet because they love to groom him and feed him treats. So he has a few extra Dreamies and a treat stick! Win/Win situation for Barnes! and the extra grooming isn't exactly doing his coat any harm!0 -
I need to 'rant'! OH has reeallly Peeed me off today!
first of all he cannot do anything in the back garden without leaving the French door open! and as the sun hadn't come round it got freezing in here!
then DIL texted to ask I could have Ava for a couple of hours while she took grandson to football. Yes fine I says.......OH moans about that.
second - grandgirls phones asking to come down for lunch and he can hear her ask if her friend can come too........he goes nuts and says NO! so I have to say sorry no. fair enough - for the last few weeks we always seem to have extra guests for lunch. anyway none of them came.
DD arrives and OH takes DGS1 up my mums to 'do' the garden, in the meantime DD, myself and DGD1 go over Llancaiach Fawr to book a 'Ghost Tour'. DGD1 did say to me 'wheres Barney' and I thought he was upstairs.
a few hours later we got back and were trading ghost stories and my DD laughing, said about her car radio which was suddenly saying random things over the radio station! spooky!
and I said 'what if you can hear a cat yowl but cant see one'? so DGD1 said 'check the outhouse'. Yep, Barnes was in there! and had been for at least THREE hours! for chrissakes........OH KNOWS Barnes will go in there if the door is open!
arrrgh!
then tonight I think I have a nice big pork roast I did this morning - and its HALF gone! !!!!!!! that would feed ten people and OH took half of it for his supper! now that's greedy!
but the worst thing????????
he painted the woodwork in the porch this morning - I thought it a bit smelly but didn't take much notice. until we got back from Llancaiach Fawr, and the smell on opening the door was enough to knock you out!
after DD left I asked OH what paint he had used in the porch - Oh the wilkies one. Jeeezus Christ - I told him to bin that as its sooooo smelly and caused me to have asthma attacks! he didn't obviously! so I am effing furious with him!
and Barnes is not happy with me for being left in outhouse - he disappeared upstairs and only came down for his food!
oh and OH has this week off work! I may need more 'rants'!0 -
Oh goodness Meri what a day!
Poor Barnes being stuck and how do you explain to him that it was nothing to do with you!! As for the paint that's just awful, I hope your asthma is getting better today, I always think that an asthma attack must be quite frightening and an awful condition to live with. Hopefully the paint is now in the bin and hubby is walking with his head hanging in shame.
Thank you Meri and His Missus for your kind words they're very much appreciated and please give Barnes a big hug and for his arm pats, they were just what I needed.xx
