If I know I'm going to be out late I try to remember to setup the auto feeder for Brooke. But if its just an hour, she can wait!

my OH was in - but he didn't think to feed him precisely at 6.30pm!

it was so funny - DD and the grandkids walked in and as soon as he spotted me behind them, he got up and walked (stomped), stiff legs over to me planted both front paws down and proceeded to let me know what he thought in short sharp yowls! I got the gist of it!
Where the hell have YOU been?
my supper was due over an hour ago!
    You are late!
You just cant get the staff these days!
You just go off and don't give ME another thought!
Now go put my supper on the plate
    and
    DONT do it again!

my granddaughter (who has Aspergers) asked 'Is he speaking Chinese'? I replied 'No, I think its Persian'.

Ha ha, Meri! I had a similar response from my brood when we got back from our weekend away. FIL has been visiting and feeding them but I think the cats would've fired him if they could've.

He didn't read the detailed instructions I left until Sunday (we went away on Friday) so all the cats had free run of the house and outside when I'd wanted to keep Tikka and Harley in. He hadn't realised there was food, water and a litter tray upstairs or that only Harley ate the Turkey biscuits. He finally noticed my note on A4 yellow paper on Sunday. Too late, I think he was already in their bad books as he said none of them came to greet him on Sunday :)

lol his missus - I too left a couple of A4 pages of instructions, emergency phone numbers etc and I even got a couple of boxes, labelled them 'LUNCH 12.30' and 'SUPPER 6.30', and even put them in order front to back so he had them in the order I give to him.............and was later told that he got fed 'as and when' and they just grabbed any old pouch! no wonder he was so pleased to see me!

nonnie - the weather forecast for your region is foul tonight! batten down the hatches, and you and your family stay warm and comfy and SAFE! Thinking of you!

poor Scrappy's going back to Grandma's for a couple of weeks this weekend. I don't think he appreciated being left last weekend, I found a flea on him on Wed night and Harley's managed to scratch him down one side of his face, all of which has led to him over grooming again :(

Hopefully a couple of weeks of Grandma's TLC will be enough to prevent an expensive vets trip.

umm - would grandma take him permanently his missus? I hate to say it as I know you love him...............BUT..............could the 'to-ing' and 'fro-ing' be contributing to his stress? could he be (like Barney) wanting to be an 'only cat'? Barnes was born into a breeding situation, he was rehomed to a 'housecat/breeder' situation, then rehomed again 'to 'housecat', but with other cats. he has come to me as an 'only cat' and is VERY happy. even Atrix his former owner, admits Barnes is a much happier chappy with just being an 'ONLY CAT'.

had Ava this morning for her parents to take her Bro to footy and do some food shopping. Barnes was delighted to help 'watch' her - honestly I am half expecting him to turn into a 'nannycat'! but he is happy to watch her get into everything - and even happier when she gets into HIS toy basket! he seems to think its great that she chucks his toys everywhere - and she finds cat toys sooooooooooooooooooooo much fun! she particularly likes the bell balls and the Kickeroo - which he never plays with (do you all think it would be ok if I washed it well and gave it to her to play with? - she must think I am a right spoilsport taking it off her all the time!
  • Hi Meri, I'm quite sure it would be absolutely fine to give Ava the toy! I love the nannycat idea, in fact he kinda already is one lol!

It certainly did get a wee bit rough on Thursday night and most of Friday here, I was panicking as dd sat her driving test on Friday morning, she said it was the weirdest thing with the wind as it was pretty fierce at 8.30am for her lesson.....but for 30mins during her test at 9.30am it disappeared! A few prayers were answered let me tell you and best of all - she passed!!

It's been very wet here for days, I hope your not suffering too bad with the rain? My 2 are going stir crazy not getting out but occasionally they sit at the back door with it open for a wee while just to get some fresh air.

Keep your fingers crossed for tomorrow as we're back at court with my nephew, so either the trial will go ahead or the 'accusers' won't bother to turn up for the 2nd time and it'll be rescheduled again.

Hope everyone has a good week xx

Meri, I don't think mum would take him permanently. We never had cats when we were younger because mum was always worried they'd be run over as we lived on a busy road, which now has a motorway at the end of it. He does seem happy most of the time at ours, he oftens plays with Harley, he'll curl up on the bed with Tikka but then he just seems to have these bouts where he starts pulling his hair out and getting grumpy.

If it is indeed caused by a flea bite allergy, as the male vet suggests, I don't know what I can do to stop that other than shave him! I flea treat the house whenever is required (as recommended by whichever product I'm using) I'm currently using the spot on recommended by the vet (Broadline), I change the flea treatments I use to prevent the fleas getting immune to it, what else can I do?

his missus - it must be so frustrating not to know the 'cause' of his symptoms. from what you say, its not 'stress' either, if he can be happily getting along with everyone one day and the next he gets grumpy and starts scratching.............I AM thinking if he were human I would be looking into food allergy. I cant remember if you said before it had been ruled out? could you possibly keep a 'food diary' for him with a column for his response the next day? such as 'normal' or scratching or grumpy? then see if any 'red flags' emerge?
