Oh lord Meri, I don't know whether I would laugh or cry if that happened to me! Poor you, I hope your ribs are recovering ok. I hope you'll manage ok with Ava but I'm glad that barney the childcare assistant will be there to help you lol xx0

Its ok to laugh! even I think its funny! Ribs are still painful, but strangely there is no bruising? I just hope none of the neighbours 'caught it on camera'!
anyways, Barnes is brilliant, I got Ava off to sleep for her morning nap and instead of picking her up and giving her a bottle of milk, on the settee then laying her down on it, I fed her milk on the floor on my sheepskin rug......she went off to sleep and Barnes came up and sniffed around her, ascertained she wasn't going to grab him, and kissed her forehead! he licked her a couple of times and settled down beside her, for all the world as if he was keeping her company! he stayed with her for about half an hour - but she slept for over an hour! unheard of! her naps usually last about twenty to thirty minutes. he really does love her - just doesn't like her grabbing him!
I have never known a cat so loving toward children, my previous dogs were fantastic with kids - I just didn't expect the same patience and love from a cat.
Barnes is one extra special cat! Nicki was good with kids but sort of 'put up with them', while first cat Timmy had no patience at all! He taught the kids to RESPECT cats through fear! Timmy had a nasty habit of digging his claws into you and biting you. HARD! but only if you had annoyed him.............Atrix can confirm that!0 -

lol - freebear - no that's not me! honest! my house is brick and the bin was the wrong colour! Phew, you had me going there!0

had Ava today and barnes was very happy about that! Atrix can confirm that Barnes watches her all the time - and its obvious he is 'dying to play with her'! and equally obvious he is wary of getting grabbed by her! hell, he doesn't even mind her investigating HIS toy basket! which she is doing as soon as I turn my back on her! lol, I am going to have to get her some 'cat toys'! NOT real cat toys of course, but baby toys which are similar!
he even tolerated the 'whooshy balloon game' today! Ava finds it hysterically funny, and making the balloon make um, 'windypop' noises is soooooo amusing too!
he will be a bit confused tomorrow - its Saturday and I have both kids as DILs mum has to work. The fun never ends does it?0 -
sorry, had a bit of a busy weekend so not much time spent on computer.
Barnes is fine - a bit neglected except for mealtimes and G&T time though. so not much to report there!
had Ava this morning and it was raining hard so he couldn't go out. he alternated between watching Ava from the safety of the settee back and going up and lying on my pillows for a nap.
I seem to have Tuesday and Thursday child-free this week and hope to go over town - I must get out for a while, I have cabin fever!0 -
Hi Meri,
Another trip to the vets last night for Harley's booster. He's also been overgrooming his tummy and it's red raw. I assumed, like Scrappy, it was an allergy to flea bites but the vet couldn't find any on him though we did get a few off him at the weekend. She suggested giving it a week or two to see if he stops now I've treated him for fleas but she thinks it could be stress.
I suppose since his return things have been a bit unsettled. After a week we went away for a week, then when we came back we brought Scrappy and Tommo, mum's dog, with us. Tommo go homes tonight so hopefully we can all get back into a routine.
I'm also toying with the idea of letting Harley out, without his harness, this weekend. I keep thinking of him as a kitten but he's over 2yrs old now.I'm just worried he'll wander off again...0 -

I used to have a scruffy little ginger (ex)tom - Once in a while he would wander off to god knows where, sometimes for a week or two, and a couple of times, for over a month. He always came back and acted as if nothing had happened.
When he disappeared, we used to say "he is off on his holidays".Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

hi all! sorry been busy in the evenings last few days. so just haven't had much computer time.
Ava was here this morning and Barnes is getting brave! a few times today he ventured within arms reach of her! and of course he got grabbed a couple of times before he could dodge out of the way. mostly, she just babbled at him and returned her gaze to the TV screen.
she napped on the floor again today and he got as close as he could to her while staying safely on the settee!
we played 'pingponguppastairs' last night. Barnes was halfway up the stairs obviously expecting me to play, so I got the ping pong balls and threw them for him. felt ok so we had a lovely ten minutes play!
Not up to 'chasemousey' though! and to be fair he hasn't got 'mousey' out!0 -

Well, he's ventured out last night and a few times today and has made it back home each time so I feel slightly happier now. He always seems to come up to me meowing as if to say, "Look I'm home"0
