Yes - Spirits find electrical items easy to manipulate. its to do with 'energy' I believe. electricity is energy and so is the human spirit. apparently they can spray pledge around too! its like whenever I went into my nans house I could smell 'evening in paris' perfume which was HER scent. even though there was none in the house years after she went into a hospital.

thanks melly - Barnes has been ever so good, apart from leaving a furball at the bottom of the stairs! I have had lots of cuddles and he did get a bit wet with tears when we came home from funeral but didn't seem to mind. The thing is - they were more like 'happy tears' as the funeral celebrated her life and love for family and friends.
it was well attended and everyone laughed and cried - who could ask more? I was dreading today - but with family and her friends and the wonderful funeral celebrant - everyone seemed to have felt better for having been there. we achieved our aim as a family. we honoured our mother for her values and we remembered her with love.

I have been very busy today - when not out shopping for supplies for the jams and chutneys I want to make from stuff from mums garden, I have been constantly on the phone. People just want to talk about the funeral service yesterday! it was so unlike what most of them were expecting or used to. The funeral celebrant talked about mum, mainly her good points but did mention her faults and made them funny - which is how we saw them! like her wish for privacy but her sheer nosiness into other peoples lives, lol! He brought her alive again for that service and it felt right.

my DD rang to tell me this: as the bearers lifted the coffin onto their shoulders - Westlife started singing 'You Raise Me Up'!!!!!!!!! our choice for the music to enter the crem. bluddy good job I didn't notice, because that would have had me laughing my head off! not seemly when following the coffin. oh and it was a song mum loved! she had 'Thank you for being a friend' as we were leaving. another favourite of hers from the tv show 'Golden Girls'. we didn't think the theme from Mrs Browns Boys would be quite the thing! only one hymn as she only liked one! 'How great thou art' and we insisted on choir accompaniment on tape, as its a really hard song to sing!

barnes got left outside in the rain - I didn't mean to, but was on the phone for ages - so he decided to escape from back garden and go walkabout! I went out the front for a ciggy and thought 'that cat on Brians steps looks just like Barney - SHEEET! that IS barney'! and the bu99er ran away from me when I went to get him! I caught him and brought him in for a rub down and gd4 gave him dreamies and a treat stick. I think he is upstairs sulking now.

Poor barnes, but I bet it won't stop him from trying it again some other time lol.
Love all the song choices for the funeral, mmhhh wonder what people would have thought of the Mrs Brown Boys theme, that would certainly have gotten a reaction!

So pleased that people rang you to talk about the service, I'm sure that must be a lovely thing to hear from them all and it proves that you all did a wonderful job with all the arrangements. xx

mum absolutely LOVED Mrs Browns boys! yet she hated swearing! she reconciled this by declaring it was in Irish so didn't count! we thought this hysterical.
mum was a bundle of contradictions, she was very funny but she didn't mean to be..............and I have such a weird sense of humour which she didn't understand at all. I could be laughing my head off and she would just tut and shake her head.
for example, and the funeral celebrant used this ' Mum shocked the socks off my eldest son by telling him she had watched 'Hard Core !!!!!!' the night before! she meant of course Hard Core Pawn! she loved that and Storage whatsits. she was starting to get into RuPauls Drag Queens!

well, Barnes has been good today - not that he has been out much and I kept a very close eye on him. he even got his meals and G&T on time, and we had Ava for the afternoon. he even let her stroke him again! just the once and a good thing too as she really made a grab for him! Bless him, he sat there watching her playing and was purring away and doing the 'eye squeeze smile' at her.
he didn't like her 'grizzling' though! he disappeared upstairs leaving me to entertain her!

another busy day! went over town this morning - that took up a good couple of hours. had Atrixs' kids this afternoon, I didn't mind, except my tolerance level is a bit lower these days and things which I would have laughed off last month - have me shouting now. we made chocolate cup cakes which may or may not have survived their journey home.

Barnes was pleased to see them of course. he has been happy to stay in the garden, but then he hasn't been shut out in the rain! still getting the cuddles and kisses off him, he is such a soppy thing! talking of which its gone time for his supper - which must be why he is on the printer staring at me.
    will go do it now.

Oh Meri, how dare you let poor Barnes "starve" whilst you play about on the internet ;) I can just imagine the look he was giving you!

Scrappy has started hanging his head sadly and staring into his biscuit bowl whenever he can see even a glimpse of the bottom of the bowl. It doesn't matter if there are biscuits up all of the sides, a speck of bowl bottom and he there's with this hangdog expression.

Sorry but this post is going to be rant and nothing remotely to do with Barnes!
I have just started a thread down in the 'Arms' because I was really upset today by a letter I received from the crematorium.
it contained sales material for turning mums ashes into jewellery or glass vases and such! for chrissakes the cremation service was only on Monday! I couldn't believe it! how bluddy insensitive - we wont even GET the ashes for another week or two!
I noted the price of the Silver ring - NEARLY £300!!!!!!!!!!!!! and it isn't even a 'one off'! I am fuming - but wondering if I am being oversensitive - hence posting in the Arms to get others views - because right now I could burn those sales booklets and send them back with a very rude letter!
Why didn't they wait and send them with the ashes? I could understand that - and it wouldn't have annoyed me so much. but its TOO soon.

I'm shocked! Why on earth would they think that that is in anyway an acceptable thing to do!

I really think that the first few weeks after a funeral are just awful for most people and that it would be too soon to send any kind of sales material regarding this. You have every right to be angry and perhaps a wee letter regarding your feelings about this might just be the thing to send to them xx
