That's ok nonnie, thanks for your kind words. yes Barnes has been very attentive, he is the best cat in the world! if only he wasn't scratching all his ruff out and chucking up furballs! I was dead surprised at his lack of manners today though...........my cousin visited for the first time in years, and Barnes only jumped on the arm of the settee and walked right across him to get to me when I started crying!!!!!!!!!!! honestly, the look of amazement on his face (cousin not barnes)! he didn't know I had a cat! still, it was a nice visit as we reminisced about mum.
I did remember to do barnes lunch and G&T including the dreaded ear drops but just realised I haven't put his supper down so going off to do that now.

well, would you believe someone tried to break into mums last night? we were woken at 1.45am by Atrix knocking the door. he had checked up mums and found the patio door handle broken - so sensibly came down to get his dad. they took my key and checked the house which was ok. the door handle was broken but these doors deadbolt top and bottom so they were unable to get access.
we now think its better to face the neighbours comments about 'vultures' and clear the house of any valuables straight away, rather than waiting until after the funeral as is normal (it feels so disrespectful, though mum would prefer we not leave anything for people to steal). It also upset the neighbour no end (she is also elderly, widowed and recovering from cancer).

How can people do this? I feel really upset - thank god for the family who have all rallied round and I haven't had a minute to think today!
Barnes is ok and his fur is starting to grow back thank the goddesses! and he has made sure that on the odd occasion I have been on my own today, I got plenty of cat sympathy - lots of 'oldladylike' pats on the arm, facestrokes etc.

meritaten - A couple of suggestions for you. Have a word with the police and they might keep a closer eye on the property. Alternatively, try to persuade a family member to occupy the house at night to discourage the 'vultures'.
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

thank you freebear - yes, a family member will be staying at night until the house is 'cleared'. and one of them will have with them a rather loud, nervous boxer dog. we are also fixing some 'electronic devices'. it will take a few days to clear the house of valuables so in the meantime Atrix and other family members will be staying over.

Its just so awful that people cannot respect the family or the home at this time. it just adds to the grief and stress as mum got burgled a few years ago - which really upset her.
tbh - the police are bluddy useless, (we all have a good idea who is behind the spate of break-ins in the village), and even so it was the back of the house which was the preferred entry point. they wouldn't necessarily see anything amiss unless they actually got out of the nice warm patrol car and walked around the property (and that aint gonna happen).
we know the person who broke in before is now out of prison (and even though the police knew it was him - he wasn't charged as he was already up on umpteen counts of burglary). so forgive me if I have no faith in the police to protect mums property. the family will do it.

I don't have a lot to tell you - the weather is more like November than July and even Barnes wasn't too keen on being out today. on the rare occasion we did have a bit of sunshine he wanted out - yet it was cold, damp and a bit breezy! which had him stalking back in again. so nap times (for Barnes) were quite long.

my head is in the shed today - remembered to do Barnes G&T and forgot to give him lunch! then wondered why his dry food was disappearing at a great rate (he normally has some for breakfast, then grazes a bit between meals). I forgot my own lunch too!

    Just seen this Meri.

Hope your as well as can be expected. Good idea to have family stay there.

Let Barnes give additional cuddles cats are good at knowing that it's needed.

Thanks melly. Barnes has been really supportive - he is an affectionate cat anyway - but I have been getting the five star treatment from him.

After a cold damp miserable morning it cleared up and the sun came out! a bit breezy but that's died down now and Barnes is enjoying the sunshine out the garden. apart from when the kids were here and he was in and out.

I went over town today and frankly, it made me feel a lot better just forgetting things for a couple of hours.
I am ok though - I have a strong faith in spiritualism which helps in these situations. it must be harder on those who believe they are gone forever and they wont see them again.
more about how mum has reinforced this another time - not tonight.

Sorry to hear about your Mum and for the trouble with her house. Some people should have been put down at birth.

For independent creatures, cats can have a real sense when someone needs hugs.

Hubby's away this week and despite having a whole kingsize bed for just the three of us, Tikka and Scrappy have insisted on sleeping on top of me - Scrappy on my chest with his head on my shoulder and Tikka on my legs. Maybe they're missing "Daddy" more than I am...

its been a lovely sunny day here in the Valleys - not terribly warm but pleasant enough to sit outside (in a cardi of course).

Barnes has given and got lots of cuddles today as its been quiet - didn't have any of the kids and only Atrix popped in for a short while with his youngest. so lots of cuddle time.

his fur is starting to grow back except where he insists on having a good scratch! threatened him with having to wear mittens and bootees if he doesn't stop it - but as usual he ignores me.
