Grandcat having extended 'sleepover'!

Meri, if I deactivated the flap it would mean any cat could come and go as they please and that black cat has been seen loitering in the back garden. My neighbour commented that she'd not seen Blackie for a while, had to explain why she'd not seen him for a while and that the black cat was actually Blackie.
Scrappy's off to the vets on Wednesday. His over grooming is getting worse and it's definitely not due to flea bites. Not sure what he has to be stressed about either, apart from the loitering black cat so I want to have a good chat to the vet about it. Surely Scrappy can't take chill pills for the rest of his life?0 -
atrix brought his ragdoll cat down today as he was having structural work done on the house and it was stressing Cocoa out. He thought it would be ok as Barney and Cocoa got along fine when Barnes lived with him. Not a bit of it! They greeted each other politely enough - but Barnes thought Cocoa had crossed the line when Cocoa investigated Barnes toy basket! Cocoa got the glare and Barnes herded him into the space by the settee and the French doors and sat there and wouldn't let him out! I got Barnes G&T stuff out and was grooming him so Cocoa ventured out and Barnes whipped round and started yowling at him. it sounded just like GERRRROUUUUUUTTTT! lol. Atrix had to take him back home as Barney really showed his aggressive side! he obviously cherishes his position as 'Only Cat' and even a previous friend is not welcome in HIS home.
good luck at the vets his missus! I hope you can work out why Scrappy is so stressed.0 -
Oh dear, poor Cocoa!0
-
yes, his missus - poor Cocoa. Cocoa is a lovely cat with the typical Ragdoll temperament. he just looked scared of Barney - no attempt at retaliation or 'backchatting'!
I got up this morning to find a lot of clumps of Barneyfur dotted around. I was busy getting ready for Ava but did notice barnes scratching like a lunatic. when I had a few minutes I took a good look and he had a bare patch the size of a golf ball at the back of his neck! I thought at first it may be a reaction to the spot-on but I put those further up and the site was fine. ohoh - ear mites again! dam!
I thought I had got rid of those - so googled whether aloe vera was suitable for cats - DD bought me one as I burn myself so often!
yes Aloe Vera is absolutely fine for cats! non toxic too. so ive put that on the bare patch as it looked very sore - and put drops in his ears. he has stopped the scratching since, so I am hopeful now that I will get that sorted! jeez if it aint one thing its another! its like having the kids all over again!0 -
ooh, you can use aloe vera on cats? I have some gel I bought on holiday when Hubby burnt his skin (ginger with freckles yet he thinks he only needs factor 15!)
We shall see what the vet says this evening but I'm thinking about changing their wet food to something with more meat content and less "filler" after an email I got from a pet website.0 -
you certainly can use aloe vera gel his missus! I checked on both veterinary and plant expert sites and they all say its completely safe. tbh I have the plant so was able to cut off a small piece and rub the gel on the sore spot - it took the redness away almost instantly and with the ear mite drops he hasn't scratched it since. its healed already. the skin now looks normal (tho furless!). hope it helps!
apart from that Barnes is fine - he got a lot closer to Ava today, he seems fascinated by her and he really does love kids. she seems to like him too.0 -
Well, we saw a completely new vet last night. She recommended trying a new flea treatment - Broadline - as she believes he is allergic to flea bites and the irritation is leading to him being stressed. She agreed that Frontline maybe isn't effective on him. He's back on the ovarid too.
Hope this flea treatment works, think I've tried most of them on him.
Might try the aloe vera gel on his aggravated patches.0 -
Good luck with the new flea treatment his missus. My Barnes has Activyl (when the ruddy vets actually has some in stock). it works just fine for him - he is also allergic to flea bites and its a worry making sure the spot-ons are working, cos just one flea bite can have him scratching himself raw.
he must take after me! I too am allergic to insect bites! its hereditary then!
I didn't have Ava today as her other nan had the day off so she had the pleasure of Ava's company. I think Barnes missed her as he was lurking by the front door at 8.45am (her usual time of arrival).
The ear mite infestation is starting to clear and his bald patch is fine.
its been quite warm today so French door wide open and Barnes comes and goes as he pleases.0 -
My vet always used to recommend Frontline, which I found to be ineffective a while ago. Broadline is new one for them though it does has similar active ingredients to Frontline. It also treats worms.
Time will tell, meri.0 -
another dry day, but quite breezy so I didn't leave the French Door open and got really fed up of letting Barnes in and out! his ear mites are almost gone - but this time I will continue the treatment for a day or two more to make sure!
this dam throat bug is still hanging on! it just doesn't seem to be getting better and I feel worse today than a week ago! prob just fed up of itchy scratchy throat and blocked feeling. Ive consumed a whole jar of honey this last week too! as its the only thing which seems to help.
at least Barnes is in good health - I must remember to make appointment soon for his heart check. he had that 'murmer' each time the vets have seen him. Oh and the breeder that sold him to Atrix has tweeted or effbooked that Barneys sister had had kittens - told him he is an uncle but he wasn't that impressed!0
