Brooke has a cat flap so comes and goes as she pleases. She doesn't let snow or deluges stop her outdoor patrols! She'll complain bitterly to me on her return, as clearly the fact she's soaked through and looks like a bedraggled hedgehog is entirely my fault. She hates me trying to towel her off though, her preferred method is to sit on my lap and let the water soak into my trousers whilst she has a well-earned kip.;)

Lol Shrike, why is it always our fault? Barnes wont lapsit (on me anyway), so at least I don't have that to deal with. but he really does dislike being dried off. the best way to do it is to wrap the towel round him as if he is a baby then cuddle him dry! he will tolerate that for a few minutes.
he has had a lovely day out in the sun - he even took a couple of his toys out on the decking with him - it was funny him basking in the sun with toys being cuddled to him.
we haven't experienced any lying snow in the time I have had him - its TWO years now come August! where has the time gone? and what did I do without him?

    Have you tried a hair-dryer ?

Warning: Barney may end up looking like this one....

We had a big dump of snow on Boxing day this year, that lasted until nearly New Year. Sadly I didn't take any photos, but these are from 2013 - I adopted Brooke early January that year:

And a few weeks later after the thaw:

rofl freebear! yes, that's prob how barnes would look! he fluffs up like a ginger dandelion after towelling. he doesn't like hairdryers when I dry my hair or the grandgirls. no way would he let me dry him with one! loved the pic though!
Shrike - Brooke is adorable! Tortie and white? a characterful cat if ever I saw one.

well the grandkids stayed over last night of course - and we watched the Harry Potter movie. I am a sucker for them, I love them. then it was getting them to bed etc. totally kernackered after that so went to bed myself.

Barnes had a lovely time with the grandkids - we had Ava too for a while and I was playing with her on the floor when Barnes sort of 'moseyed over' - you could see he was itching to play with her and he pressed up against me and I got the message. I held him, then held her hand and stroked it down his back. He purred like mad and she giggled! he would probably have stayed there a while, but after a few strokes she tried to free her hand to grab him. so I put him down out of her reach. he stayed there to watch her play for a while then wandered off to find the others.
Do other cats have such a 'thing' for kids? Nicki my second cat was very patient and kind with them - but he certainly didn't have the interest in them that Barnes does.

well it turned out nice today - bit of a chilly 'breeze' though. Barnes couldn't find a sheltered spot outside, so 'sunbathed' indoors this afternoon when the sun came through the French doors.

Barnes has been rather annoying though when he has gone out - its my fault though! every time he has gone out and sat under the mini willow he has been covered in blackfly! then he comes in for me to remove them. for some reason the willow is covered in the bluddy things...........I must get some bug spray, as these seem to actually thrive on the soapy water spray I normaly find sufficient to get rid of them.
I wouldn't normally use chemicals - and wont, if anyone can give me any ideas on a 'harmless' to cats kids and grownups spray or treatment for my poor willow.

well, last night after posting I let Barnes out for his last 'garden time' and told him I was getting him in at ten. ok, at ten I got up to let him in and he was sitting waiting at the French door! Usually I have to coax him in or physically pick him up and bring him in. I told him he was a good cat and he could have some extra Dreemies - and I SWEAR he said 'DREEMIES!' he even ran ahead of me into the kitchen and sat by the cupboard containing them! his vocabulary is expanding!

will see if he says 'Treat Sticks' later if he is a good boy again! lol.

oops - I haven't put his supper down yet - must go do that, but he is enjoying the late afternoon sun outside after a rather cloudy day.
posted early, cos yesterday I discovered a whole season of one of my fave tv shows, on yutube I hadn't seen and I cant wait to get back to it!

Ahh! If only "Thats Life!" were still on, Barnes could take over from that dog that allegedly said 'Sausages':)
Cats are obviously bright enough to remember where the treats are kept and lead us to the cupboard when they think the deserve some, I suppose they could learn the word too? Our old family cat (Yay! Also called Barney;)) loved fish so much even the mention of the word would set him off - we had to resort to spelling out "F I S H" so not to get him expectant!

I would think Barnes knows the word Dreamies very well - I tell him G&T time and then when I start feeding him the dreamies I say the 'D' word. only thing is - Aldee have a choc bar called Dreamie too - and my grandkids love them - so have to wonder when they ask for a Dreamie does Barnes think they are nicking HIS treats!
I remember the Sausages dog! must get the grandkids to spell out D r e a m I e s when they want chocolate!
and no he didn't say 'treatsticks' last night! lol or Dreamies either because he wasn't a good cat and I had to get him in by picking him up.

I'm quite sure Barnes knows exactly what the 'D' word means, if I am going to get the 'Da Bird' toy for my 2 I just have to say the word birdy and they run exactly to where I keep it.....they're not daft these cats lol

Been ridiculously busy the last 2 weeks, dance shows, school shows, award ceremonies, both the kids are exhausted but school finishes tomorrow at 1pm thank goodness, when do your grandkids break up for the summer Meri?
