Grandcat having extended 'sleepover'!

got up to rain this morning - BUT Barnes decided he wanted out anyway! he sat under the miniature weeping willow, apparently under the delusion it was keeping the rain off. Of course, it wasn't as its completely bare! wont get leaves on it until the end of the month or even middle of March depending on the weather. (that tree was one of my 'rescues' - it cost me 50p as the garden centre thought it was dead - that was oh, over 15 years ago!) He was trying to keep one eye on the gate and the other up at 'Younextdoors' window - he looked like a demented owl, swivelling his head all the time!
of course he got towelled off when he came in - so he stomped off upstairs for a sulk! lol - yes I know I come across as a fussy catmummy - but, last time he got soaked he was ill.
haven't seen little 'Blackcat' lately, I wonder if his/her family are the ones who moved out a couple of weeks back?0 -

lol scaredy_cat - I like the Simons cat cartoons - I hadn't seen that one though!
my apologies for not posting Sat and Sun! No, not a romantic Valentines night - but some really interesting programmes on TV. and last night I had the grandgirls sleepover and they were little sods! took them to bed at 9.45 and they didn't settle until 12.45! Yawn - I was shattered this morning.
this evening was just about to plate up OHs supper when had a 'distress call' from No1 son - AVA was screaming the house down and his wife had gone out..............so OH popped me down (he only lives a couple of minutes away by car). Poor thing - I thought she had Croup for a minute. I sent No1 son upstairs to get Vicks or Karvol or Olbas oil - he put some on her bib and a few minutes later she settled down. Then I swaddled her in a light blanket, and she would have gone to sleep, but was a bit hungry (she puts her fist in her mouth to suck when she is hungry, lol) but she sounds a bit snuffly and 'rattly'. she had a half bottle and went to sleep so I came home.
Barnes ignored the rain this morning again - and got towelled off again - so didn't see him until lunch - and the weather cleared a lot so he went out for a while.
as his fur is thickening I am finding the comb I use isn't getting right into his fur and the brush thingy seems a bit harsh (even though its for kittens really) I must look for something which will get right down into his fur without scratching his skin. tbh I was wondering if a human hairbrush would do the job? I don't see why it shouldn't.0 -
I'm not sure I can advise you on a hairbrush, I can manage mine with a flea comb easily.
Scrappy begrudgingly came home last night from Grandma's, where he has apparently lived in front of her fire and eaten all sorts of delightful food for the whole weekend. Tikka was really pleased to see him. She was actually waiting outside the front door for him and ran across the Close to greet him with a kiss. I've never really noticed a bond before, maybe she's mellowing in her old age0 -
aww - perhaps with Tikka, 'Absence makes the heart grow fonder'?
Barnes fur is changing - when Atrix got him he was not much different to when I got him. long furred but silky. his fur is now different - he seems to have grown an 'undercoat' which is quite thick - the comb is now not going through it. and this seems common with Persians. so I just looked up grooming Persians and found this

- and was appalled at how rough the grooming session was! I could never treat Barney this way - and this is supposed to be 'professional'? He wouldn't put up with it anyway. but then, in America they 'declaw' cats and think its normal.
I have an idea what sort of brush I need (my DD had very thick, tanglesome hair) so will look in shops and get a couple to try.
Barnes has been in and out all day - lovely sunshine but cold out there! I am sure this is what is thickening his coat! all that cold!0 -

Detangler for matts.
a under coat rake for his undercoat to smoothe it out.
then a large soft slicker for the top coat, then use smaller brushes for his paws and his face.0 -

Ouch, yes does look a bit rough, didn't like the way the cat's tail was pulled ...I was watching 'The Fixer' last night, about a pet shop in London. They showed a dog groomers where the dogs could have anti-aging treatments i.e mineral baths :rotfl:Had to laugh.0 -
anti-aging treatments?????????? oh my god! don't tell me that they can take the wrinkles out of Shar-Peis? rofl
thanks Atrix - will check those out.
as its been dry and quite mild, Barnes has spent a lot of his time today out in the garden. he did come in and try to stop me knitting by biting the end of the needle, and later, I was um, undoing some work, and he put his paw on my hand while I was winding it back on the ball, lol, he seemed to enjoy the winding action!
We had a little play after his G&T and I got the ping pong balls out - not for pingponguppastairs - I was throwing them against the living room walls - when I threw one and it came back and hit him right on the nose! I fell about laughing and he took umbrage! he didn't appreciate me pointing out his reaction time was too slow! to be fair, I had just kicked his dreamie packet and he MAY have been distracted by the sound.0 -
Raining quite hard today so Barnes had the sense not to go out!
GD1 slept over last night and she tells me that Barnes kept her company for an hour or so while she was reading her book. then as soon as she put the light out and settled down he was off. She got herself some breakfast - honey yoghurt with a sprinkling of Muesli and some fresh raspberries. she left some raspberries in the container on the worktop and I glanced up to see Barney lifting the plastic to investigate the contents of the punnet! so we offered him a raspberry, but he wasn't interested in that! he wanted to play with the punnet, lol. It had such a crackly interesting sound to it - he played with it for about 5 minutes.
I have just been shopping on the Works site and they had a pet grooming brush (a bit weird as I was searching for 'kids knits' books) - it looks just what I had in mind and it was only £1.49 so that got added to my order. I am sure the works does it deliberately..........they must have everything I have looked at on database and keep throwing in these random items to tempt me!0 -
