quiet day today, except that OH has the week off - so Barnes was rather puzzled OH was here this morning instead of driving away in his van. still, he did cope ok with OH vacuuming this morning instead of when he comes home about 4pm! popped up vets and asked them about the spot on not lasting 4 weeks...........receptionist had a look on system and went to speak to one of the vets. on his last visit the vet noted that she wanted to give his booster shots in 3 months, so the advice was I make appointment early next month and discuss flea control then. I am quite happy with that as we only have a few weeks to go - and his flea spot on is very effective for a couple of weeks then tails off. I can cope with putting it on every 3 weeks if vets agree - it only costs £5odd each treatment.

poor Barnes - put the spot on at the back of his head and although I TRIED to avoid any scabs or recent bites, it must have spread - it obviously stung because he backed away and shook his head violently! then gave me 'The Glare'! luckily I had dreamies to hand and pacified him with a few of them! gave him his 'treat stick' (the vitacat ones from Aldi - he absolutely loves them! prefers them to Webbox.
we played catch the dreamies for a while - but he was a bit distracted and it was more like 'catch Barnes -oh bu99er its gone under the settee/in his toy basket/OHs lap/ disappeared into sheepskin rug/behind curtain', so it turned into a game of 'hunt the dreamies'!

the grandgirls paid a surprise visit and they played 'catchthedreamies' with him too! so he has had loads of dreamies today, no wonder he doesn't want his supper! preferring instead to watch TV with OH. will just have to leave it down until I go to bed.

its Tuesday! and you all probably know its 'grandgirls afterschool day' too! Barnes loves to see them and they do make a bit of a fuss of him.
but, I had bought them card butterflies on sticks to paint and glitter (firm believer in 'the devil makes work for idle hands' - so like to have something planned for them to 'make'). Barnes usually just naps for this. at some point he knows he is going to be fed dreamies! I find this 'crafting time' is when they tell me what's going on in their lives. we can 'discuss issues'. and I really enjoy being with them. the three of them are absolutely lovely kids with strong personalities - so sometimes they clash!
Barnes had some disruption to his routine - I had the temerity to go out for a few hours today - OH and I were 'pricing fencing' for my mothers garden. he seemed most put out when we got back - but cheered up when I did his G&T a bit early! then I worked on knitting project while Barnes supervised from settee back. and he must have approved as he patted me on the head a couple of times! I am making a matinee set which I normally do in white, in pink - and its turning out beautifully! cant think why I haven't done it in colour before!
I didn't bother playing 'catchthedreamies' - he just waits for them to hit the ground now - so we played 'pingponguppastairs' instead - he was so eager to bat one back down the stairs - he overbalanced and tumbled down a couple. I committed the unpardonable sin! I laughed at him! so that was the end of THAT game!
  • Sounds like Barnes put you in your place - punishment for daring to disrespect him :D

cat slave rule 102 - only play on YOUR terms!

as Barnes demonstrated today, he started foraging in his toy basket and I watched to see what he would bring out, a ping pong ball! Yay, pingponguppastairs! boy did I get that wrong - he sat at the bottom of the stairs and watched as I threw one ping pong ball after another up the stairs..................nothing, he didn't chase them, just looked at me, and I swear there was 'disdain' on his face. I started gathering them up and suddenly he swooped on one, batted it down the hallway into the dining room and it whacked against the skirting board and came back at him, so he back-pawed it into the living room! then he sashayed off and went for a nap!
its been a bit 'wet' today - nothing like the heavy rain and winds we were warned about though, so during a break in the rain I let him out. I had to laugh, because as soon as he could, he stared up at next doors bedroom window (hoping for a glimpse of his ladylove) and walked right into a deep puddle on the decking - he sort of 'stopped', then decided it was more dignified to just carry on walking and did so. shaking each paw as soon as it was free of the puddle! rofl. for some reason the decking 'walkway' dries out quicker than the large decking area - he sits on that and 'moons' up at her. until the skip lorry came round the corner and racketed up the lane - he shot indoors as if all the hounds of hell were after him! he didn't want to go out all afternoon - good job as it was raining and I wasn't letting him out anyway!

so what did we do today? well, tbh, nothing much! we had a visitor and Barnes decided, as he was getting ignored, to get out a toy and play with it. now I am not sure if this was deliberate or not........but, said toy (his favourite hedgehog/mouse), got batted into visitors lap - who brushed it off as if it was a live grenade! 'visitor' was definitely not a 'cat person'. lol.

we had a bit of a reverse 'romeo and Juliet' situation too. Him next door took 'You' out in garden on her harness and lead. Barnes was out and then came rushing in! Up the stairs and onto the bedroom windowsill. out of curiosity I went up to see what was going on. Barnes was in spare bedroom window and staring down at 'You' in her garden. this time she was looking up at him! that got him all excited and he started pacing the windowsill - she lost interest! jeez - one very annoyed and deflated Barney! I swear he wasn't pleased with her! he came downstairs and napped on settee!

What he doesn't know, is that while I was out the front having a ciggy, this rather, um, skinny, leggy, strange cat came to the door. Surprised, I just said 'Hellloooo' and it answered - swear it said hello back! so we swapped hellos a couple of times - and I said to it 'Barnes is out the back'. and it went out the gate! I am becoming convinced that Cats do speak Human!

oh dear - a bit of a boring day today. nothing of note to tell you all - except I think I passed my cold on to Barnes - he has sneezed all day! and refused point blank to go out! quite happy to watch through the French doors - but open them, and he just looks at me as if I have gone doolally.
he hasn't been interested in playing, he was off his lunch (but that could have been because I served 'Seriously Good' from PAH and he refused the last one - he has 'gone off' those!) gave the rest to Atrix when he brought the grandgirls down.

Said grandgirls are now in bed - but seem to have difficulty 'settling down', so much so, Barnes has come downstairs instead of cuddling up with them. arrrrghhhhh! normally they are fast asleep by now.
I have just realised I didn't give Barnes his supper!!!!!!!!! will do that now. see you all tomorrow.

just a short post tonight as I really feel very nauseous. Had a truly horrible meal from the local Chinese tonight! could only eat a few mouthfuls. OH finished it up though!
Just to let you know that Barnes ate all his supper last night and hasn't sneezed so much today! and he has been in and out of the garden as usual.
