sex education back in 1999 and 2000' was unheared of then in schools.

I love that you say this like none of us were around then. I distinctly remember a whole science module on reproduction coupled with sex ed sessions back in 1996/1997 when I was in year 6 at school. So not really unheard of.

Incidentally I don't feel the need to add any more advice, I think the OP has had lots of excellent suggestions already. I just wanted to add though that I think you're a great dad, OP, and have done really well in supporting your DD. And that it's nice to see you and her mum supporting her together despite being separated, not all ex-couples could manage this so well.

ok i think your one short of an appology here. no need for insults..i think youve read past what i posted about my ex and thought i was telling the OP as advice for somereason

i didnt say anywhere that hymen breakage and tampons means you lose your virginity to a tampon!.

or that not bleeding during your first time doesnt make it any less legit to losing your virginity.

intercourse is intercourse, firtime is losing your virginity ofcourse.

i said, that when my ex shared her first time with her college "friends" that her hymen didnt break during intercourse and also didnt experience bleeding, and that she knew her hymen had been broken years before when she used lite tampons as an explanation as to perhaps that why she didnt bleed she got bullied for it.

put your mind as a 16yr old imature bully not well eductated in the how things work department.

Oh come on! I left school in 98 and we had sex ed in first year of secondary!

I find it hard to believe she was mentally and physically bullied for not bleeding too.

I also fail to see how anyone, especially a woman, thinks that not having the hymen intact ruins the experience of losing your virginity!!!!!!!!!!

I think so too :) A big pat on the back for this guy and the mum too for their joint support, poor dad being lost but helping and for raising a daughter who feels comfortable enough to go to her dad about it:T

I was terrified of telling my mother (and generally scared and upset) when I started,so hid in my room and made temporary pads with cotton wool wrapped in toilet roll:o

  • Yeah I remember getting sex education in Juniors and that was in the 70's
  • So no tampax or buy them and have my sister help just in case?

I feel a bit of a failure, I went from being a Hero at her football match this morning (ref didn't turn up) to being a bumbling mess. she is so brave and mature and I feel I am letting her down as cannot answer her questions.

she is asking how long it will last, will it get worse, will it happen again and when. we googled together and it says its so different for every one. Main site suggested 5-7 days that is when she got upset and the holiday was mentioned.

you seem like a fab dad! not read all the posts but hope you sort it out with your daughter and have a good holiday x

What a lovely Dad, she's a very lucky young lady. Hope the holiday goes well. xx
  • think of your responses, you dont believe and jumping on something i said, thats just how bullying starts isnt it! takes one person then the next to outcast! ironic i mentioned it in previous post how one person believed something than the other to make them a social outcast.

See I'd say get both and let her see what works for her, I can't get on with applicators at all, never could even when I was 13, couldn't see the point in them. She might find it easier to use the ordinary ones like I did, and the main thing is to get to know your own body and your own preferences.

I was beginning to think I was the only one who doesn't like applicator tampons, they never go in properly and need manual adjustment, and they leak something awful. I guess I'm just the wrong shape for them.

OB are the absolute best, such a shame we can't get them here, I stock up whenever I go abroad, although I do get some funny old looks buying a dozen packs at a time :D

1999-2000? I thought you were talking about back in the 50's or 60's. Sorry, that is not a normal circle of people your ex was mixing with.

I'm a lot older that that and lost my virginity in the early 80's, there was no talk even then of proving you were a virgin by bleeding, that's archaic and something people of my mother's generation believed.

As for lack of sex education? Really? I take it this wasn't in mainland UK, because sex education in 1999-2000 was not that far removed as now with the exception of the aids and std info they get now. Certainly period info was the same in the 80's 90's and 2000.
