BTW, as you mentioned before you hadn't heard of them, here are links to two brands of menstrual cups available in UK:

You can get them in Boots for one, or order online.

You sound like you're doing okay and you've been given lots of good advice. As others have said she may be more comfortable with sanitary towels at the moment and then thin panty liners when there is very little happening. Tampons are an option but she may need more time to get used to things or she may find they aren't an option for comfort reasons until she's older. She's unlikely to be heavy flow for a few months and she's unlikely to be regular each month, also it's likely that she'll be finished in a day or two so its likely shel'll be able to swim. As above, cold water is best to remove blood from fabric first before going in the laundry. Pack painkillers just in case.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0

I would suggest that if you do get some tampons, you also get a lubricator such as KY jelly or Boots' equivalent. I find it makes life so much more, er, comfortable when inserting them.
I also get the plastic applicator tampax ones because they have a 'lip' at the end of the applicator which your fingers can grip on - the cardboard ones just were too hard to grip, I found.
I agree with the suggestions about nurofen type painkillers (assuming she has no difficulties with aspirin), and a hot water bottle just in case - but if she's had no cramps today then she will probably be OK for the rest of the duration.
Good luck and hope you all have a fab holiday.0 -

Having been a teenage girl, I can't imagine other teenage girls laughing at somebody because she didn't bleed the first time she had sex. How weird.
Sorry Iwilllearntosave!
i left out gory details as to how she knew her hymen broke on a tampon deliberatly use your imagination.
she was mentally and physically bullied about desclosing such info to her "friends" to such an extent her bullies drove her to many suicide attempts.
it happens i recognise that anything can cause it to detach, i want no knuckwrapping over it it was just an info perpspective as to what tampons "MAY" cause but duly informed she can make a informative decision about it when dad explains.
i thought it wierd aswell but apparently it was the "in taboo thing" from her generation of college goers at the time, apparently the saying was in her generation was "if it didnt bleed it didnt happen" ofcourse peer pressure and popularaty to fit in-in the race not to be a virgin in 1st yr college.
allthough she was the smart one, contraception! most but not all the bullies ended up pregnant by the end of first year, she went on to get the grades she wanted to progress into uni.0 -
You are doing really well. As well as cold water I would suggest salt for blood-stained underwear.
Personally I think pads are better when starting out and when I was young there were no wings or adhesive so you used a sanitary belt so very glad things have moved on.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Making a "period kit" can help too. Use something discrete like a pencil case and put in towels/tampons, paracetamol and a spare pair of pants just in case.
And well done, you sound like a brilliant dad. (not all 13 year old girls would be happy to talk about periods to their dads) :T:hello:0 -
Ok texted from her phone and mum rang.
it's all good. mum is coming round tomorrow and going into work late, will do what you mums do and even better, given the holiday, we've just been on line and mum is coming after work on Friday (will pick her up at airport) and staying for the weekend to help with any issues that crop up.
This means if it doesn't stop or she needs help, my Ex is there. She feels that by the time she leaves on Sunday as needs to be at work on Monday, my daughter will be able to cope and she can judge what she says is flow and necessity over the weekend.
We arrive fairly late on Thursday so it's only Friday am before we pick mum up so it will work out good.
Humongous thanks to those that helped, I cannot believe a man who watched 2 children being born has this level of anxiety over a natural bodily function.0 -
I'm a mum with a daughter of the same age and I am personally finding atrix's contributions to this thread vile and inappropriate so well done that you as a dad are being good natured about it and not knocking him for 6!0

I appreciate his views but as I said, it won't happen with my daughter as she will be 29 years and 354 days, where as my son will be younger as he's the man!0

And of course will have the class not to describe her intimate life to a bunch of strangers
