Tampax are a brand of tampons??
But they expand into a very different shape to most of the other brands I've tried, perhaps that's what annie meant. Most of them stay round in cross-section but Tampax go rectangular and long. (At least, they did all those years ago when I still used disposable sanpro.)They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.

I would ensure that in the villa you are in, there is a bin in the bathroom with a lid/plastic bag in, so anything can be disposed of as discretely as possible. Even a small bin that is "just for her" in case she is embarrassed about others seeing anything.0

In the UK from Health food shops but if I remember rightly on prescription in Germany. Are these on prescription or can i get them over the counter?
I used to buy from local Health food shop as they often had it on offer and they knew which brands had the most active ingredient (as it varies with brands).

and thinking it was too late to be telling me bout periods to me as i started in year 6!
Op i think you're handling this really well, i was younger than your daughter when i started but my mum had handily prepared a little period pack that was in this fabric pencil case thing. it had pads/wipes/sanitary bags. I chose to use pads as tampons freaked me out at that age (even though my mum used them), but once i moved to uni (!!!) i discovered applicator ones and haven't looked back since. My periods were really erractic to start off with (and quite heavy) but they settled down after a year or so, and it was easier to know when i'd next be "on". Also was unlucky to have very painfu ones but was put on mefannimic acid (can't spell that) to help-if she does end up with painful heavy ones ((hopefully she wont-think i was just unlucky) then dont be afraid to see help from GP.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Make sure she has a couple of extra towels (bath kind) in her room too, that way she has something to lay on overnight if she wants to. Always made me worry less about leaks especially if I wasn't at home!0 -
Really? I remember having sex education classes when I was in year 9, which was back in ... erm ... 1993 or so. This included the whole putting-a-condomn-on-a-carrot thing, flinging diaphragms around the classroom, and puzzling over how you were meant to insert a femidom. And we had the talk about periods when I was in year 6, including the purpose of the bin in the end cubicle of the girls' toilets.atrixblue.-MFR-. wrote: »sex education back in 1999 and 2000' was unheared of then in schools.0 -

Firstly - OP, I think all you have done for your daughter is fantastic, I wish I had had a parent like you when I started my periods, you are an absolute star!
Secondly - I was born in 1975, and in my final year at primary school (so school year 1985-1986) we did a whole terms project on the human body, which covered everything from puberty to sex to creating a baby. Looking back on it now, it was very clinical and factual, with no attempt to look at the emotional side of puberty/growing up/relationships etc, but I knew exactly what was going to happen to me in terms of menstruation so to say that sex ed in schools didn't exist in or around 1999/2000 must be completely wrong!0
