Teenagers and Menstruation Advice Needed

Tampax can be tricky, tampons are easier. She shouldn't bleed in the water as "down below" is a one way valve, as it were.0

We actually have a bowl in the bathroom containing all options so that family and visitors can take their pick.0

I've gone my whole life without even thinking about a mooncup.
I don't think it's worth getting one now, as I won't get my money's worth!
When I started my periods at age 13, I used pads for a couple of years, and then moved on to tampons. I know one thing though, I wouldn't have liked the look of a mooncup in my early to mid teens, and certainly wouldn't have tried it for my first period, in a slightly stressful situation, e.g. The day before I went on holiday.Early retired - 18th December 2014

Well done OP, sounds like you're coping really well.
I have two daughters and I made a bit of a fuss about their first periods. A low-key fuss, I hasten to add, not exactly banners and bugles, but a bit of a chat to mark it as a rite of passage.
It's a big deal after all, your daughter is now starting a new and hopefully wonderful chapter of her life.
We went for ice-creams and a bit of shopping. i got each of them a lavender-infused microwaveable teddy which they still have now (at age 20 and 19). I also told their dad and he had a wee chat with them also, to mark the important milestone.
A box or bowl of different products and a hand mirror will be very useful to have in the bathroom from now on...
I hope you enjoy your holidays!I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

This is complete myth, and really shouldn't be put forward as advice.
As for mooncups, as much as I love mine, I'm in my 40s and wouldn't have wanted one within 10yards of me as a teenager with my first period.0 -

I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

that reminded me of my mother's chat. She was a bit awkward about these things and told me "no hanky panky now you have started". Sounded like it was okay up until then but I know it just came out wrong!:rotfl:splishsplash wrote: »but a bit of a chat to mark it as a rite of passage.
Really, what did he say?splishsplash wrote:I also told their dad and he had a wee chat with them also, to mark the important milestone.
We were on holiday and I didn't tell OH as I didn't want him or DD to feel awkward. I don't think I ever really told him he just sort of knew it was time.
Even thought I grew up in a with a couple of sisters who were very open I have always been very private about my periods! I never understood friends who would announce they were on. Right through to adult hood I was discreet and you would never see a pack of pads or tampax lying around in my bathroom.

When I bought my mooncup, I calculated that I needed to use it for more than six months in order to make it cheaper than tampons.0 -
Put it this way, I rather hope I won't have six more periods, I'm hoping not to have one more!Early retired - 18th December 2014
