I wasn't going to get involved in this thread BUT......it appears to me that there are many people on here who genuinely want to give something back to the forum, either by posting competitions, helping newbies, informing us of the names of competition winners etc. I applaud every one of you, and hope that I have myself begun to give something back to a great site which gives me a lot of pleasure and excitement at the thought of one day recieving a wem or surprise in the post. Without all of you that would not be possible.
People use the forum in different ways. I find for me that the best way is to click on the "Newest Thread" and the "Thread start time" and then I either put a cross by the side of those I'm not interested in or if I enter a comp I tick it and always say thanks to the poster (good manners after all). That way I'm sure that I have seen every competition. My sister doesn't do that, she has her own way and that is completely up to her.
The forum will only work well though if there are BG's who are there to clear dupes, get rid of posts which are against forum rules, help out newbies who have not posted their comps correctly and to get rid of comps which are now finished. IF none of that was felt to be needed by the site administrators then they would not have appointed BG's!
At the moment there are 4 names showing as BG's for this forum. Many people do not read these other threads, they just come on for the comps and are not interested in any other part of this forum. So if they need to contact a BG they will probably just send a PM to one of those, not knowing that at the moment that they are not all able to help out. As far as the person is concerned they have contacted a BG and they happily go away.
It is up to the site administrators to remove the names of those who are no longer able to help out, and to temporarily appoint others who are willing to help while BG's who are needing to rest do so, knowing that when they want to return they will be able to.
I have been expiring competitions daily for the last week since I read about the problems, it is time consuming but I am happy to carry on for a while longer, BUT knowing that BG's can do it so much quicker and easier than myself I strongly feel that the site administrators (or whatever they are called) should take action and sort out this forums BG issues.
I also want to thank the BG's for their hard work which is all voluntary and probably not appreciated by the majority of people using the forum.

If expired comps are not urgent then they cannot form part of a case for any extra BGs. I am sure that on many occasions in the past (for years) expired comps have remained on the main board for several days without causing any problems.

I'm probably in the minority but I often comp by prize or by site - for example, "win a car" or "itv.com" (ever the optimist). I get a list of mixed Game Overs and Competitions Times. I ignore the Game Overs and click on the Competitions Times because I'm used to doing that and getting live comps as a result. I can't rely on that recently and it's slowing me down. It may be just the way my brain works, but I can't read end dates as fast as I can read "Competitions Time"

are you're saying with lots of comps still on the boards even though they are closed you get them showing as live because they've not been put in GO ?

Yes. Comps either have "Competitions Time" or "Game Over" after them. If they haven't been physically moved to Game Over they still say Competitions Time and that has always meant that they were live.

It seems you are happy to carry on being the only full BG on the comp forum, but there are a LOT of people working hard every day trying to plug the gap of where a BG would be & it's getting to the point of not being able to continue running around doing things that a BG could do quickly.

I asked you to pm MSE Debs re the wrong info you gave her about me not being able to receive pms! or do you want the team to waste time looking into something that isn't, and never has been a problem?

as for commenting on threads, that's my prerogative, I don't see that I'm having a problem with my BGing and don't wish to discuss other MSE BGs

If you have messaged members of the team and started a thread in site feedback then can't you just allow the team to address this issue when they have time to? They won't be ignoring you, they will just be prioritising the 100's of issues they must have to deal with eg the weekly email, the main site, getting info on moneysaving deals onto the site etc etc

I have Pmed you about needing more BG's perhaps the Pm glitch may not just be yesterday or you have so many you have missed them?

It is not working Glad as so many people would not be clicking on every expired comp one by one to get them off the boards, where as you as a BG can do 200 at a time, yet you sit back & watch the same people every day go through them all & say nothing, why?

I didn't say you were getting any more or less I said you were now getting 40 a day.

I did say that we need someone on the boards during the day so they can merge threads, & other BG duty's which is something that has been lacking for a long time now.

We have waited a long time for a reply from someone at MSE, not just this thread but all the others that have been made over the last few months. I do understand that MSE is a huge website & needs a huge amount of work done on it every day, but that does not mean we should not ask for help when it is needed & it is needed

Your comment about it being your prerogative to say something or not on a thread about the lack of BG's, isn't that what a BG is supposed to do? I thought BG's were supposed to help people, well we need help & have said so many times & yet you say nothing?

IF you said something way back a few months then the situation would not of gone on for so long, & could perhaps of been sorted out then & there, TALKED & found a solution
