Prayers

Hi; has anyone said prayers that came true that were perhaps more than a coincidence?

In my opinion you will always get an answer but it may not be the one you want. I presume by come true you mean that what you prayed for happened?

I think it is hard to be sure what is an answer to prayer as opposed to a coincidence. That is what faith is all about, surely?

I didn't think prayers worked like wishes.

I thought praying helped you find the strength from within to either to what is necessary to achieve your goal or learn to live a fulfilled life without it.

Prayer can indeed help you find the strength or learn to live without the goal. However it can also change the circustances completely.

I think my question may have been poorly worded; has anyone prayed for something and got it or prayed for something and not got it but realised it was for the best?

My son was born fifteen years ago, with four major abnormalities, each of which would kill him without surgery. Just before his surgery, he was given four hours to live. At the time, he was five hours old and had been transferred to Alder Hey via a specially equipped ambulance with a team of medical staff. His surgery began when he was nine hours old and lasted for six hours.

He spent a week in ICU, not the minimum of a fortnight that doctors had predicted. I was told it would be weeks before he came home. He was 19 days.

I am a Christian and I prayed for my son. My family prayed. The local church, which is a different branch of Christianity, prayed. A church on the other side of town, attended by my then manager's mum, prayed.

My son, who also has Down's Syndrome, survived. He also survived pneumonia at six weeks old, even though his blood sats (oxygen) were down to 42%.

I have other prayers that have been unanswered, but whether my son's survival was helped by prayer or not, he is now fifteen years old. If it was the power of prayer, then the praying must have ensured that the surgeon who operated on my son that night was on duty. He and the restofthe hospital staff saved my son's life, for which I will be eternally in their debt.

I choose to believe, but I know others would disagree. For me, the main thing is to respect each others beliefs, even if they are not the same as our own. As for praying, it certainly won't do any harm.

Hey now! That's really rather unpleasant and really, REALLY uncalled for. Take your disrespectful @rse to some other thread. Or better yet, some other forum

I think you should read the post as it was meant, the thread is a debate.
  • Eh, I'm not a believer myself but that doesn't give me the right to insult people of faith. Any faith
