I'm fully aware of that fact.

    So why ask the question:-
why are the government bothering to re-assess those that have indefinite HRM of DLA?

Why is this turning into a debate about disabled (or old people). Two people aggravated each other over something that seemed important at the time, but which in retrospective was not worth the fight. It resulted in a punch, and the massive unfortunate event is that that punch ended up in death.

Everyday people, however educated, get into brawls over the most stupid things and punches take place. When it results in the person falling badly and dying, it is a tragedy, regardless of the reasons for the fights in the first place. This is no different.

But was she in the car or in the supermarket with the dead husband parked up in the bay waiting for her to come out?

If so he should not have been in that bay - he should have parked elsewhere and pulled the car to the door when she emerged.

I have seen this myself with people sitting in a car parked in a disabled bay whilst the badge holder was doing their shopping.

As I have already said on this thread, it is perfectly legal for someone to sit in the car and await the return of the badge holder. I checked with the local authority and they confirmed this.
    Please get your facts straight.
In most supermarkets, only taxis are allowed to pull up at the door and anyway how is the driver meant to know when the bb holder is ready to be picked up?

Maybe because they are the single category that claims the most from the government. Their pensions alone account for 20% of the total UK budget, Healthcare comes in at 18%, Welfare comes in at 16% and Education at 12%.

Look at it another way, 36% of total government spending goes on Welfare and Pensions, with Pensions accounting for 72%!!!

Do you wish me to quote figures on what the disabled cost this country?

All this is irrelevant. The way to avoid growing old is to die young and I for one don't intend to do this to save money for the government.

Of course many claim - but they all started out young, most worked and paid tax, NIC etc all their working lives.

Governments and the media selectively vilify one group after another as they know that most of the population cannot analyse the facts behind the headlines and will be thus diverted from their failure to deal with real problems. Unfortunately the statistics you quote can be 100% accurate but still have no value whatsoever.

Every time I hear the words "aging population" I want to bite someone. Of course we are aging, but that in itself is not the problem.

Many of the "aging population" provide childcare and care of the disabled/elderly themselves, as just one example. So they are enablers in these circumstances.

The problems and solutions are rarely simple and do not benefit from this kind of simplistic commentary.
Aiming to get healthy in 2014.
  • Forgot to say - we don't know the real facts behind the death of this poor man and no matter what the rights and wrongs, two families will suffer for a long time to come.

Nothing can put that right, but no doubt more facts will emerge during the court process.

I am very sorry this happened.

    So why ask the question:-

Because it seems that you think that they are similar - HRM & standard Mobility PIP.

    We will agree to disagree.

However common sense should prevail that if the badge holder has gone into the shop, the person sitting in the car should leave and give the space up for another disabled BB holder.

I do, and I am a BB holder/driver. If my wife goes into the shop and leaves me sat in the car in a BB space, the question that should be asked - why do I need to stay where I am - I don't need the space - I'm not getting out of the car.

Likewise if I pop to the shops leaving my wife in the car with my BB, what should she do? Sit there waiting for me to come back? Or should she park elsewhere?

Both are based on the same walking distances, 50m. Of course, Enhanced PIP is now 20m instead of 50m, as it was to get higher rate DLA.

Are you a politician? You certainly sound like one. Saying a lot but none of it has any meaning.

    The simple facts are

    1. Pensioners take 20% of the national budget.

    2. The NHS takes 18% of the national budget.

Ask anybody you choose this simple question.

Given the two choices above who do they think should get the most amount of money - pensions for pensioners OR money invested in the NHS to pay for the doctors and nurses?

And people wonder why are pensioners seen as the greatest drain on our resources and the least likely to contribute financially to society.

It's because for the purposes for certain BB criteria THEY ARE.

Andy I really do suggest you take the time to read (and understand) the government BB consultation AND the government's response to the consultation then HOPEFULLY you understand!!

You do really need to do some homework on this matter as you're looking very silly.
