Man dies over disabled parking space

So, think about it before you decide to argue or complain about a disabled parking space!
A 65 year old man has died following a fight in an ASDA car park over a disabled space. The man was killed in a row over a disabled parking space on Sunday following an argument over the space.
The 64 year old who has been arrested when he "allegedly" punched the 65 year old. The man who died person did not have a blue badge, but claimed his wife needed the space as she had a bad knee.
The Police have said "The men were waiting in the disabled parking area at the time and got into a disagreement about parking.
"We know they became involved in a disagreement which resulted in one man punching the other, knocking him to the ground.
"It would seem an argument over nothing has led to tragic and devastating consequences for both men and their families.
"I know the supermarket car park would have been very busy on a Saturday afternoon so if you were there at the relevant time please contact the police in confidence."
So, a disabled space is now something people will die over! This morning on TV, the minister responsible for the disabled Esther McVey, said that this was a tragic incident.
There is a root and branch overhaul of the blue badge scheme following years of abuse by people who have not really needed them apart for the closer spaces as the cost of disabled who do need them. The Governments plans will be announced soon where only those qualifying for the new higher rate PIP will be allowed to apply for a badge. We are working with private car park operators to extend the scheme and allow enforcement action against those using a disabled space when they should not be.
Brassedoff says, It is sad that someone has lost a life due to a space, something that is so trivial. But this was always coming, or something of that ilk. As for the proposed changes she said this morning. About time. I am really pleased that the qualifying is tied in with those who actually have been proven to have a disability and difficulty in mobilising.

Man WITHOUT a BLUE BADGE parks in a (non enforceable private car park on private land) disabled bay?
They are challenged for being in this space WITHOUT a BLUE BADGE.
This then equals a total abuse of the Blue Badge system, by Blue badge holders and justifies changing it?
Yep makes total sense to me :money:0 -
- the badge counts, its the defined [in both European & UK law] measure of a 'sufficient disability'
- ASDA have been applying these rules to disabled or parent and child spaces for around five years
- 5 years of a % of the money raised goes to baby charity Tommy's and the Motability car scheme
- the bays are enforceable by ASDA, its their private land, the can do as they wish within the law
- I'm all for them and wish all supermarkets took up the cudgel against anyone without an in force, displayed blue badge
Sadly maybe this case will finally put a stop to the 'urban myth' that consistently wrongly claims they are not legally enforceable, this will free up many more spaces for BB holders use.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I don't understand this virulent animosity toward disabled and elderly people. If they were an ethnic minority they would have some protection under race discrimination laws."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

I would like to point out that a man has died, and another man has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter. Proceedings are therefore active and comments like the death "was self inflicted" could be seen as contempt of court.
Just a friendly warning you understand. Too much speculation regarding the rights and wrongs of this case will just see the thread pulled.0 -

This is the result of a sustained anti-disabled propaganda agenda from the current government to soften up the gullible public so they can introduce their nasty welfare changes.
Funny though how MSE doesn't allow ethnic minority abuse but turns a blind eye to disabled abuse.0 -

I think we need a proper definition of what constitutes disability. Bearing in mind there can be very few of us that are perfect then most of us could consider ourselves disabled in some aspect. The very term disabled has itself been abused by so many with piffling ailments and disorders that it is pretty well meaningless.0 -

Equality Act 2010You are considered disabled under the Equality Act 2010 if you have a physical or mental impairment that has a ‘substantial’ and ‘long-term’ negative effect on your ability to do normal daily activities.

As usual on this board people put their point of view over without actually reading the article.
The word at the top is "Allegedly"
The minister said they were looking at changing the rules on both getting and being entitled a blue badge.
Why do people all run off on their own agenda and not discuss what is written?0 -

Brassed M8, which article ? - you don't link the article - can you provide me with a link so I can see who said what please ?.
Brassed M8, which "minister said they were looking at changing the rules on both getting and being entitled a blue badge" "she said this morning" - you don't provide a link on who said what. Was it said in relation to the dying in ASDA ? - or was it the McVey quote in Feb this year on tightening up rules regarding the physical mobility activity 'moving around' [the 50 metre mobilising rule] ? ready for PIP ?
We have, as you know concluded a thorough 3 year very very expensive 'consultation' - the rules for blue badges / PIP / UC / Local Authorities O/T walking assessments brought on stream / have all been changed and even the new stationary has been issued since July last year, the new hologram badges started to go out in Jan this year at the same time as the anti-fraud national database was set .Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion.
