Man dies over disabled parking space

Bearing in mind there can be very few of us that are perfect then most of us could consider ourselves disabled in some aspect. The very term disabled has itself been abused by so many with piffling ailments and disorders that it is pretty well meaningless.
The government have now attempted to do this by bringing in PIP. It's the best that we can have at the moment, but no doubt it will be fine tuned as time goes on - Too many manage to get an award - the qualifying criteria will be increased. Once we get to that eventual level, then we can say that they have done their best in trying to define exactly what is 'disability'.
The trouble is, as you say, all and sundry including those with a bad back and ingrowing toenails will still say that they are disabled!0 -
You said Andy "It is about time that a BB will only be given if PIP enhanced mobility is awarded."
Note poppet that you said 'enhanced' which is wrong. Check the rules on BB eligibility for someone getting PIP mobility poppet!!!!
You really need to do some homework Andy rather than coming out with your usual guff such as 'Everyone can do some work' this irrespective of the severity of condition. Did you see the video I asked you to watch and suggest what work that girl could do!!!! No you avoided it as per usual. Tut tut tut!!!
Sorry but I don't understand half of that. The half that I do, is what I think and believe should be the case. Obviously the government haven't got the balls to go the whole hogg and have tried to temper it with saying that a BB can be issued on the basis of any award for mobility under PIP.
It's about time that we gave the Tories a free leash to do what they believe is right instead of them being held back by those idiots that sit on the fence and jump either side depending on the type of scraps that are on offer to them.0 -

Ok Andy I'll take it slowly for you.
Firstly:-
Do you understand this bit (to help you it's the bit you said!!)
"It is about time that a BB will only be given if PIP enhanced mobility is awarded."0 -
I do believe the changes to the BB Scheme wont be applicable to the over 60s.
Nothing ever does....0 -
I don't understand this virulent animosity toward disabled and elderly people. If they were an ethnic minority they would have some protection under race discrimination laws.
In reply to this, Andy wrote:tokenfield wrote: »Maybe because they are the single category that claims the most from the government. Their pensions alone account for 20% of the total UK budget, Healthcare comes in at 18%, Welfare comes in at 16% and Education at 12%.
Look at it another way, 36% of total government spending goes on Welfare and Pensions, with Pensions accounting for 72%!!!
Do you wish me to quote figures on what the disabled cost this country?
How can the above figures, accurate or otherwise, justify the vitriol?tokenfield wrote: »Not bad. 15 years of contributions. Almost makes me wonder why I bothered to go out to work to get my 44 years + another 5 for good luck making 49 years in total.
Your posts suggest that after 49 years of work, you too are a pensioner - I think you mentioned claiming Pension Credit on another thread, or another AE - and your wife is a pensioner.
Also you've posted on MSE that you've given your Motability car back and bought one, and that yourself and droves of friends, will not be applying for PIP, cos it's too much of a faff. (:rotfl:)
So why do you justify the way pensioners and the disabled are treated on the boards, and in life, by stating how much they cost the country, when you're both yourself?
Or is it, as usual in AndyLand, one rule for you and a different one for the rest of us?

Yessssss I understand it, can't say that Andy might!!!
MY THOUGHTS AND BELIEFS ARE THAT A BB SHOULD ONLY BE ISSUED ON THE BASIS OF ENHANCED PIP!!
The government have gone soft on allowing everybody on mobility under PIP to apply for one.
NO ENHANCED MOBILITY - PIP
NO BB end of.0 -

Exactly - another example why the elderly/OAP's are allowed too much!!0 -

Why should those of that age have so much of the national budget? It's a disgrace to be honest and flies in the face of those that work hard to pay for it.

Yep, I'm 64, wife is 68. Yep we claim every godamn thing that we are entitled to. Nothing wrong with that - it seems to be the national sport at the moment!
However that doesn't mean to say that I agree with it. I think that the opportunities to have a good income courtesy of benefits is all wrong. I would be the first to accept a large reduction. I don't blame working people having a go at pensioners. Every time cuts to the welfare budget are announced - the pensioners are exempt from them. That's not fair on anybody.
So yes I take what I am entitled to, but would have no objections if they reduced my income along the same lines as other welfare recipients.
Do I agree with pensioners getting 20% of the national budget on pensions alone - no I don't - people should provide for themselves and not expect others to provide for them. Until this government sees sense, I will take what is on offer with a guilty conscience.0 -

Are these the same thoughts and beliefs you have that "EVERYONE CAN DO SOME WORK" even those in a coma or in a persistent vegetative state or those who are severely mentally and/or physically handicapped like that video of the girl I advised you to watch to see how stupid that assertion was!!0 -

In scotland, where I live, you are only awarded a BB if you get the highest rate of DLA / PIP.
Totally of topic but I saw 2 women park in a parent & child space with no children, my mum asked where their children were, to which the older one about 60 years old replied with ''She's right here, this is my daughter (about 35 years old). I am her parent, she is my child, the space says parent and child, not parent and BABY''
I was lost for words.:TIs thankful to those who have shared their :T
:T fortune with those less fortunate :T
:T than themselves - you know who you are!:T0
