Giffgaff is PAYG with bundles ('goodybags). No contract, no deals. The price can change.

Check Lycamobile as well. They use the same O2 and have £15 bundle that can suit you.

I'd not heard of Lycamobile but that £15 deal sounds good. Is it just PAYG with bundles like Giffgaff though?

I don't like the idea of the price changing whenever they fancy it. My other half has been on a Virgin Mobile SIM only 1 month contract tariff for more than a year and even though what she has doesn't exist anymore, she is still on it...

I'd prefer to know what I'm getting and how much I'm paying and that it wont change so I can budget for it and not have to keep changing networks and getting my PAC so I can keep my number...

I just read that Lycamobile doesn't like the iPhone, which is what I have so that's an issue.

I've read a lot of good things about Three on here. Bad stuff too. But there's complaints about every network it seems. Depends where you live etc I guess...

    I did say 'bundle', didn't I?

Well, operators don't care what you like and don't like. In the real life very few prices can be fixed. Even mobile contracts don't guaranty you anything. If the price goes up you are free to leave. How is PAYG different?

PAYG seems less reliable and more liable to change. The Giffgaff deal that is £18 now and will be £20 in April flagged that up I guess.

I've been on lots of tariffs that have disappeared from networks but I stayed on until I wanted to leave. I'm assuming that is a thing that you definitely don't get with PAYG deals... but maybe I'm wrong... and maybe you don't get that anymore at all with anyone...

That's exactly what I'm trying to figure out - is PAYG different? And if so - how?

Thanks for the advice so far. Really helpful.

I disagree. Most providers used to increase prices in line with inflation every year or so - even for existing customers, not new ones. only.
For PAYG increases are far less frequent, but, as a result, more noticeable.

I don't quite understand the question as IMO the differences are obvious, especially between pure PAYG and contract.

PAYG with a bundle is very close to a 1-month contract, but is far less 'automated' and, hence, more flexible. However, 'auto-topups' and 'queuing goodybags' are available at Giffgaff.
Also, generally, PAYG is much safer as very few providers offer capped contracts.

Unlimited text and calls and 3g data on a 3 month rolling contract at £4.49 a month for the first 3 months... seems a good deal to me. a percentage goes to charity too.
Has any one any experience of the company please?

  • Hi Guys

I'm looking to get a sim only deal in a couple of months. I currently have a Samsung Galaxy S4 on EE which is £48 a month. I ordered the phone and received it on the morning of the launch day. I'm happy with the phone and it still works great but now i definitely want something cheaper. My 2yr deal is up on 1st April 2015 so nearly there. I think sim only is the way forward.
I no longer work for Natwest, I left in 2012. But i can't change my name..

You are right, although sim-only normally means a contract. Why are you dismissing PAYG?
  • Looking to get a couple of sim only deals for new phones (nano sims)

Checked all the usual comparison sites as well as hotsimonlydeals.

My main query is, why are moneysupermarket deals not listed? I know the perils of deals that include manual cashback validations but quite frankly I've done it before and it's not too difficult to get it to work as it should. Many of these sim only deals with cashback from the likes of mobiles.co.uk seem to be really good. Any thoughts?

I'm looking at the vodafone sim only with mobiles.co.uk
    Vodafone Pay Monthly Micro SIM

    • Unlimited mins
    • 20GB data
    • Unlimited texts
    vodafone.png 12 Months

yes it's micro not nano but just using as example. It's £30 a month with £168 cashback, making it £16p/m

Actually I'm looking through the nano sim only deals and these look incredibly good. My only concern is the lack of finer details, I'd like to know for instance if tethering is included as standard per each provider, e.g. if it was three would it be 4gb tethering or any other provider would it allow tethering from allowance and finally if it's also 4g

    What do you mean?
Is Moneysupermarket not just one of many comparison sites?

That said, some comparison sites can have exclusive deals listed.

The only way I know is to check directly with the provider. E.g. Vodafone have the above tariff on their website for £30 p.m. It's 4g. Of course, you need a confirmation from Mobiles.co.uk that it's exactly the same tariff or a written confirmation of all the details you need.
