What does dress your age really mean????

I'm 48 and I do own a beige cardigan!
But it is a lovely, very fine cotton knit which drapes at the back and I always get compliments when I wear it.
I'm a jeans/trousers and t-shirt gal, my son pokes fun at my "bingo wings" but I still wear sleeveless tops, I don't care. Although I'm learning to wave like the Queen so that my arms don't wobble too much! :rotfl:
The last time that I wore a skirt was probably when I got married, 14 years ago. And I didn't want to wear one then, I wanted to get married in a white trouser suit with a floppy hat like Bianca Jagger. Mr Barbie said that if I turned up in trousers, he wouldn't marry me so I had to buy a dress!
I don't think that I dress too young or too old, what are 48 year olds supposed to wear anyway? I'm small and skinny so dresses just hang off me, I'm a bit too old for mini skirts and strappy tops look ridiculous when you're flat-chested like me. I do remember the white knee-high boots though, I had a pair when I was a kid and I loved them....if they come back in fashion, I'm definitely having a pair, I don't care how old I am!!"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0 -
I'm still shuddering in horror at anyone wearing a cardi in summer ... but my younger sister always liked beige and camel shades, and is more stylish than I am. There are different styles of cardi, and maybe beige is the best colour to match certain outfits.
In my early 20's/late teens I used to wear cardis with long black dresses and docs, and I thought I looked amazing52% tight0 -

I 'be worn card is a bit in summer. I have problems temperature regulating, card is make all the difference at times. Similarly, they can make a summer dress appropriate in a church or other place when sight seeing etc.

i don't understand this whole age related dress sense baloni, wear whatever feels comfortable, who cares what others think just wear what you likeChallenge yourself with something you know you could never do, and what you’ll find is that you can overcome anything.0

As has been said by Nicki, people adapt to cover imperfections, or if their size changes ...
I bet OP wouldn't be wearing a tutu if it made her look like Mavis the fat fairy.52% tight0 -
I'm 41 and don't dress all that differently than I did when I was 21. Not sure that's a good thing, but to be honest I'm very much one of those guys who hates clothes shopping and tends to just replace like with like.
My wardrobe other than my sporting gear consists of grunge era looking clothes, skater type shorts, t-shirts and shirts (Quicksilver, Animal, O'Niel, Billabong etc), Levi jeans, Converse and Vans shoes. That and a couple of suits for client meets at work when required.0 -
I won't wear leggings any more ....someone referred to plump legs in shiny black leggings as "looking like a couple of black puddings" ....and as my legs are not (ahem) as slim as they once were ........:D
I still wear converse boots btw ...as well as M & S footgloves - sadly can no longer wear my lovely lovely high heeled shoes
BTW - I'm 70
You're awesome!
Op,funnily enough, about an hour ago I was googling how a 31 year old woman should dress:o as I appear to be confusing myself and when I wear my hair down, wear my summer dresses and make up I feel rather 'girly' and 'cute'...I think the long mass of curls assists that. And I'm not sure if I'm genuinely uncomfortable or just having a touch of low self esteem.
I've been looking online for a few new summer tops (tried tesco as I could get them free with clubcard vouchers lol) and kept wondering if I was too young or too old for what I was looking at!!!!!!:rotfl:
I don't know what the hell has got into me buy I just can't decide and keep swaying away from fitted or stretch tops that show my figure (and giant boobs) to looser tops that make me look bigger, then giving up as I don't know what I'm doing anymore:o:rotfl:
So,if anyone can define dressing your age or tell me I'm ok it would be much appreciated:rotfl:
Ps I do kinda know what's got into me
Pps according to some searches a woman in her 30's should not wear maxi skirts as they are 'too trendy' and single women should dress differently to married women...I then stopped reading after the 'must start wearing khaki pants when you turn 30:eek::rotfl:If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
As I've got older, wearing things that are comfortable's become a number one priority rather than the second.0
