Do 37 year olds really suddenly start wearing beige cardigans?

That's only one step away from crimplene dresses!

The OP must know some unusual 37 year olds because most people I know have developed their own style by that age, and continue to wear they feel good in, for the rest of their lives, with subtle changes due to fashion or the ageing process.

I'm 53 now, and I don't wear skirts above the knee anymore, but knee length is fine. Same with shorts, I still wear them in the summer, but they have got slightly longer over the last few years. I still wear strappy tops, but prefer to wear them with a shrug these days. I'm happy in leggings, but with a tunic top.

I don't know anyone who has suddenly morphed into wearing beige at the age of 37, unless that was already their style

Just wondering as I got ready to go out tonight if the way you dress has changed a lot since you were younger?

For example tonight I'm wearing black leggings, a black mini tutu type skirt, t-shirt with a ribcage on it and black sneakers with purple stars on them.............at 37 I doubt I am likely to change my style much now but lots of the women of my age seem to have morphed into "beige cardi wearers"

    Thoughts?

I really can't imagine anyone I know wearing this outfit whatever the age. That said it's entirely your choice.

We all change our style as we age and our body shape changes, it's unrealistic to think otherwise.

I'm 24 and I love a good cardi! I don't have any in beige because it does nothing for my skin tone. Dress in what you like and what feels good! I'd feel like a right eejit in a tutu but each to their own. If you feel confident in an outfit, 99% of the time you'll look great... and really, who cares if you don't?! :D

Leggings are horrible sweaty things. I'd rather chew my knees than wear them.

Some people have different tastes, Im a fitness instructor and I wear comfortable leggings or baggy yoga type trousers when teaching and I do wear casual wear sitting around the house, a lot of people will wear dressier clothes than I do on a daily basis.

I have skirts but Im not really into them, Ive worn more dresses over the last couple of years than I have in a long time, but if Im out on a night and I want to wear a tunic type top I'll happily shove a pair of leggings under.

Its whatever people like or dont like and thats absolutely fine.

I cant think of anything beige I've ever worn

Fashion evolves over the years anyway. I remember when my gran was in her 50s, she wore twinsets, she never wore a pair of trousers in her life until she was in her 80s and ended up in hospital for a mild heart attack and when she got out my mum bought her a couple of pairs of trousers, just easier to wear for her, was a bit odd seeing her in them as shed worn skirts all her days, but maybe 20 or 30 years ago, people in their 30s and 40s wore clothes that made them look older than they were

Im not into cardies, I had a few when I was in a job that had a certain dress code, wasnt allowed to wear jeans either, but I didnt really like them and they got charity shopped. Im not into jumpers much either, think I have one that I wear now and then, Id rather wear a fleece

My style has definitely got much more casual as the years have gone on but I think thats because Im a bit of a lazy mare and cant be bothered making an effort unless Im out for the evening.

Well I wouldn't wear a mini skirt but then again, I would never have worn one when I was 16 either. Mainly cause ive never had the figure or legs to wear them.

If I had, I might be tempted only if I could wear a pair of 70 denier tights and a pair of heels. However, I don't think hubby would let me out the door without him if I did.:D

I was 9 months pregnant and wearing crimplene patterned maternity mini-dresses (complete with long white boots - does anyone remember them?):eek:

Five years later, when pregnant with No 4, I looked at the min-dresses with horror ....and wore them as tops over maternity trousers :D:D:D

Personally, its a case of adapting fashion to what suits me ....I have an inherant horror now of crimplene and elasticated skirts - but I find I can look stylish - rather than fashionable - by just looking at trends - nothing more horrific than the old-styled "mutton dressed as lamb" - or someone clinging desparately to fashions of their youth.

My best style guidance now? No 1 son or 16 year old g/daughter!!

    I've been Money Tipped!
I just told DH about this and he pointed out I look ' lovely in camel, that's rich beige, isn't it?' And also that I have some beautiful beige cashmere a cashmere designer gave me when I was in my late teens. I wore it a lot. And looked pretty good tbh. Wish I looked half that good now!

I think also, people think they suit certain colours and stick to them. I would always wear blue over red but everytime Ive worn anything red, even just a T shirt Ive always had compliments on it

I did a course in colour therapy a few years back, not anything to do with fashion but it certainly makes you think what colours you are drawn to and ones you arent

Ive always been guilty of wearing far too much black as well. I have a black dress I bought about 10 years ago and its had a lot of wear and I really do like it, but these days I'll wear a colourful jacket over it so Im not left wearing black, black and yet more black.

I now know which styles/colours suit me and which don't, so perhaps my style has changed in light of that over the years. I still like to show my personality, and have always liked slightly quirkier styles, but I also do own some boring/slobbing clothes too. If you feel nice, and it suits the occasion then surely it's up to you???
