My wardrobe other than my sporting gear consists of grunge era looking clothes, skater type shorts, t-shirts and shirts (Quicksilver, Animal, O'Niel, Billabong etc), Levi jeans, Converse and Vans shoes. That and a couple of suits for client meets at work when required.
I have clothes I wore at twenty one I wouldn't wear now (if I could fit in them). It just wouldn't feel or look right.
No one has really mentioned lifestyle changes yet. At twenty one I was at uni and working, burning the candle at both ends, now I am....not. I don't, for example, need clubbing wear. On the rare occasions we still get invited to clubs (never, ever go by choice now) we generally don't go, (walking stick don't really cut it dancing) but if I did it would certainly not be in the same attire. Certainly a lot of that is to do with body shape......but some is to do with sense of self and appropriacy and the company I would go with and what would be expected of me.
I still wear heels when I can, vertiginous ones, but I'm less likely to wear the same sort of heels I did fifteens years ago.
I don't really mind I have changed as I have 'grown up'. Its part of life. I just which I could still fit in my old clothes while buying the new ones:D0 -
I'm still shuddering in horror at anyone wearing a cardi in summer ... but my younger sister always liked beige and camel shades, and is more stylish than I am. There are different styles of cardi, and maybe beige is the best colour to match certain outfits.
In my early 20's/late teens I used to wear cardis with long black dresses and docs, and I thought I looked amazing
I wear cardis in the summer!Covers bruises from ds and makes my outfits feel more relaxed, usually 3/4 sleeve, cacoon shrugs or with the sleeves pulled up a bit though. If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
Again, I'm glad I'm a bloke.
51 and I wear pretty much the same clothes I have always done... apart from the school uniform.0 -
i don't understand this whole age related dress sense baloni, wear whatever feels comfortable, who cares what others think just wear what you like
This thread made me think of the Red Hat Society and the poem that started it off -
Warning
When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick flowers in other people's gardens
And learn to spit.
You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.
But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

Well I'm forty and have never considered leggings and plimsoles to be "going out" attire. If ever do get that frumpy to think so, I hope someone will shoot me.
It's fine if the Sue Pollard look is what you're going for"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
Got my red hat and purple shoes in the cupboard .......for when I think I want them!!!!0

What is a t-shirt with ribs on and why would you want to wear it?0

My philosophy since I reached 60 (still cussin' the stupid username I chose :rotfl:) is simply that the camera is a better friend than the mirror when it comes to seeing yourself as others see you
.
I'm always putting things back on the rails in charity shops because I've remembered that I'm knocking on a bit and don't want to look completely idiotic.
My simple lifestyle, which involves a fair bit of train travel and not much (make that nil) sophistication, lends itself perfectly to teeshirts, jeans (I do prefer dark ones nowadays) and lightweight fleecy tops, of which I had over 30 at the last count(but none in beige!). Can't walk in heels, and like Dunroamin I need to be comfortable in my clothes nowadays. Life's too short to dress to impress unless it's career related or for a very special occasion.
Despite that, when you reach a certain age you can get away with looking a bit eccentric. This hot weather has meant that half the time I'm walking around with one and a half eyebrows! :rotfl:I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

As women get older I think they should be flaunting less flesh. If it jiggles it should be covered up. Exhibitionist can feel differntly if they choose.
Still, my own personal view is that tutus rarely look good on most 18 year olds, never mind a grown woman on her late thirties. There's stylish and there's infantile0 -
