What does dress your age really mean????

Lucky you jellyhead. I am also 5 years older than the OP and though I have no wrinkles on my face, I can see some wrinkles on my cleavage where the skin is thinner than the face. May be to do with the size of your assets perhaps. I am ahem generously endowed
The post wasn't intended to mean though that it was a foregone conclusion that a given part of your body would look a bit rubbish at a certain age, just that SOME part of your looks are likely to deteriorate a bit with age and most of us who like to look good tweak our dress styles to disguise this if we can.
I'm 12yrs older than OP but don't have a wrinkly cleavage either! Nor a wrinkly face for that matter...yet!
I also wear leggings with a jumper dress or long shirt but then I still have the long slim legs of a 20yr old“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
I am 59 and have always liked black - I was goth about 20 years before they were thought of! I wore white capri trousers and a long white top to the local shop the other week and the sales assistant had to look twice at my face before she recognised me! she burst out with 'I didn't know you - you aren't wearing black!
I like leggings and long tops - but I do have a variety of outfits as sometimes as others have said 'you have to dress for the occasion'.0 -

Goth fashion's been around for about 30 years!0 -
Just wondering as I got ready to go out tonight if the way you dress has changed a lot since you were younger?
For example tonight I'm wearing black leggings, a black mini tutu type skirt, t-shirt with a ribcage on it and black sneakers with purple stars on them.............at 37 I doubt I am likely to change my style much now but lots of the women of my age seem to have morphed into "beige cardi wearers"
Thoughts?
Sounds like you're fishing for compliments to me.
You should be able to wear what you like whenever you like. I wouldn't wear beige clothing of any description, it does nothing for my skin tone but I do own a selection of cardigans. I wouldn't expect anyone to comment whatever I wore.

Nearer to 40 years actually. Siouxsie & the Banshees started out in mid-70s and she was always very Goth looking. I used to copy her style as a teen and have never really grown out of it although there are times I do have to dress more appropriately, especially at work.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
I discovered leggings last year at the age of 51. I only wear them with something that is long enough to cover my thighs though. I didn't have thin thighs as a teenager and I certainly haven't got them now. My arms are ok and I haven't got a wrinkled cleavage. I usually have a sleeve on my summer tops but that is because I burn really easily and not because of my age.
I can't stand beige and doubt whatever age I get to that I will own a beige cardigan.
I think you just have to dress to go with your shape and size as much as your age. I can't go bra less and so rarely wear strappy tops or strapless dresses. I usually do have a cardigan or jumper with me but that is because I get cold very quickly rather than because I am older.
As I have got older I have got a bit more confident and my clothes are now more fitted and less baggy than they were when I was a teenager. If anything I am dressing less conservatively now I am older then when I was in my teens/twenties.
I can't bring myself to wear anything I wore first time round, for instance wedge shoes, especially since my teenage daughter is now wearing them. I will never feel able to wear an ankle chain as where I grew up it was a way of advertising your services. My grandmother wouldn't wear red for the same reason. It has also taken me over 30 years to wear grey after wearing it for years in school.
I also think you have to dress according to your job/lifestyle. I work in a school and short skirts are a bit of a problem in the summer. When the children picnic on the field I don't want to be showing my undies when I bend down to help them open packets etc so I wear a longer skirt or trousers. It is also far easier to have a bouncy hopper race in a pair of cropped trousers than in a skirt.:D Long skirts and bouncy hopper races don't mix, you get caught up in the skirt and fall off.:rotfl:0 -
Really? Do you genuinely think you will still be wearing this kind of outfit when you are 57? or 77?
At 37 if you look after yourself you probably still have the figure and looks to pull this look off. In 5 years time you might find for example that your chest and cleavage look a bit more wrinkled than the rest of your face and body, so your neckline might get adjusted up a bit. In 10 years from now you might feel the tone of your inner thighs has gone a bit to pot and that leggings are no longer such a good look to pull off.
I think most of us adjust our signature style as we get older to minimise the bits of our body we are not so happy with. That doesn't mean necessarily morphing from a sex kitten into a toothless tabby overnight though
Im 44, I dont look wrinkled, I have good skin. I wear leggings when I want to, Ive worn tutus, not on a night out but for certain parties/events
Im of the view, wear what you like as long as it suits you
And when Im 60 I might not be wearing leggings and a tutu, but I dont think of myself as a certain age, Im the age I am.
I do see women in their 60s on a night out trying to look like they are 20 and yes they do look ridiculous, but if I did ever step out of the door looking like a complete eejit, Id give myself a swift slap and change my outfit sharpish0 -
Leggings are horrible sweaty things. I'd rather chew my knees than wear them..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Well I wouldn't wear a mini skirt but then again, I would never have worn one when I was 16 either. Mainly cause ive never had the figure or legs to wear them.
If I had, I might be tempted only if I could wear a pair of 70 denier tights and a pair of heels. However, I don't think hubby would let me out the door without him if I did.:DThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. I confess I do own a pair of Converse. They belonged to my son and he grew out of them."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0
