    I'm 54 and don't own a beige cardi yet. .......

I am 55 and I own two :rotfl:

Both in wool - I wear a lot of wool - because I get very cold. I wear thermal or silk underwear too as they are warm. I wear flat shoes and woolly socks. I don't wear short skirts because my knees are very odd looking. My accessory of choice is a walking stick. Unfortunately, my fashion sense is dictated by my medical conditions.

Fortunately, I am confident enough to expect people to see beyond the beige (or red, or aqua, or peacock green, or purple, or pink) cardigan.

edit to add: I daren't wear leggings though, I do have a tiny amount of self respect left :o
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.

Just wondering as I got ready to go out tonight if the way you dress has changed a lot since you were younger?

For example tonight I'm wearing black leggings, a black mini tutu type skirt, t-shirt with a ribcage on it and black sneakers with purple stars on them.............at 37 I doubt I am likely to change my style much now but lots of the women of my age seem to have morphed into "beige cardi wearers"

    Thoughts?

I can't decide if your attitude is look at me i'm thin & fabulous attention seeking or just mean & judgemental.

Lucky you jellyhead. I am also 5 years older than the OP and though I have no wrinkles on my face, I can see some wrinkles on my cleavage where the skin is thinner than the face. May be to do with the size of your assets perhaps. I am ahem generously endowed :o

The post wasn't intended to mean though that it was a foregone conclusion that a given part of your body would look a bit rubbish at a certain age, just that SOME part of your looks are likely to deteriorate a bit with age and most of us who like to look good tweak our dress styles to disguise this if we can.

I've been averagely endowed until I hit 30, so yes, maybe you've had extra wear and tear :D

When I suddenly went from a C cup to an E I changed some of my clothes, and had to think about low cut tops and boobs jiggling about when I'm cycling.

Being fatter aside, I also cover up a bit more and don't wear tight clothes since getting a lump at the top of my leg. It's only cosmetic, but I don't like to feel like people are staring, and I don't like children (mine, usually!) pointing it out. So apart from when I'm actually in the sea or a pool I wear a dress or something over my swimsuit.

I might start covering my arms soon too. I'm not bothered about my brown freckles, but the bright red ones get commented on a lot. I only used to have brown ones.

I can't imagine anyone wearing a cardi in July or August though ... I'd probably get tops with sheer-ish arms.
    52% tight

If Helen Mirren wouldn't wear it, neither will I.

I dress younger now at (cough) 49 than what I did at 19. I had absolutely no dress sense when I was younger at all. I am very tiny (no eating disorder - I've had my stomach removed and am fed with a feeding tube) which I think helps. I wear skinny jeans and still shop at Top Shop, New Look and Miss Selfridge but this is mainly because they do the smaller sizes. I have a 27 year old daughter and I know she would tell me if she thought I dressed inappropriately!

I don't own any clothing item in beige (and no interest in black either) but I'm distressed to find after many years resistance, I seem to be developing a taste for neutral walls in my home :D.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

I won't wear leggings any more ....someone referred to plump legs in shiny black leggings as "looking like a couple of black puddings" ....and as my legs are not (ahem) as slim as they once were ........:D

I still wear converse boots btw ...as well as M & S footgloves - sadly can no longer wear my lovely lovely high heeled shoes :(

    BTW - I'm 70 :D

I'm glad to hear that, at 34 I was getting worried I'm getting too old to wear my beloved converse....

I am into shoes; just as long as they are converse trainers!
