Do you have freckles?
Sometimes I leave my grey, sometimes I dye it. My hair is a bit thick and frizzy, and the dye makes it feel lovely and silky, and less heavy in hot weather if that makes any sense?
Dying it is a hassle, and often I just can't be bothered. I'm a lazy mare!
I'm freckled and people always assume I'm younger than I am, perhaps because I dress so scruffy ... there will be a day where it turns from charmingly scruffy into old bag lady, and I won't notice52% tight0 -
One of the real advantages of being fair-haired - you don't seem to go noticeably grey. My Granny went from ash blonde to silver-blonde, and my mother's now doing the same (in her 60s) and it doesn't look grey at all, just lighter than she used to be.
My mother's currently sporting what she calls her "militant lesbian hair style" because it's growing back after chemotherapy....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I realised while lying in the bath earlier that you weren't really talking about the sort of women who have always dressed in beige cardis or suchlike, you were talking more about your own friends group, where 15 years ago they would have been dressed in a similar style to yours.
To be honest, I think if I hadn't gained weight I'd still go out wearing the goth stuff I used to go out in. I wouldn't wear it in the school playground or to work or volunteer, but on a night out, yes.
My son's 16 year old girlfriend dresses like you, and it looks good on her. I wouldn't want to dress like my kids friends, although I know some women who dress the same as their daughters. I don't have any daughters, perhaps it's different.Really interesting to get everyone's perspective on this although I feel like I need to clarify a few thing:
1. I am not totally in love with myself like some people have implied (some of that vitriol actually got me a bit tearful)
2. I love clothes and okay I'll probably end up a bit like Zandra Rhodes at that age but hey we need a few eccentrics
3. I REALLY wasn't trying to be catty or mean I was just confused by the massive transformation in some of my friends in the year I haven't visited my home city
4. I do in fact own cardigans :rotfl:

I have three pairs of shoes - sandals, walking shoes, one pair of boots - and spent a large part of my day sewing up the sandals yesterday as they'd just fallen apart at the seams and I can't buy more, grrr. It feels so woefully inadequate next to some of the amounts posted so far
Me too. I have one more pair in the cupboard that are just for going out in. They're not comfortable enough for daily wear. Oh, and a pair of wedge sandals that are for going out in too, but only to weddings or suchlike.
I have 2 pairs of summer shoes, but only because my old ones probably won't last the year and I got some more in the sale, to save having to pay full price when my old ones finally pop their clogs.
My total in shoes would be in single figures (well, double if you count each shoe).52% tight0 -
4. I do in fact own cardigans :rotfl:
Ah but unless they are beige, they don't count.;):D
I actually quite like that skirt....but I'd need to buy one for each leg then velcro them together.:rotfl:
My daughter tells me she's glad I'm overweight, she reckons if I was thin, I'd be embarrassing. :rotfl:Herman - MP for all!0 -

I would have worn it in my teens, definitely not now though (I am just turned 38), nor the skirt. TBH, to me, it is far too young a look, but if the OP feels comfortable and it suited where she was, then so be it!Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

I have some freckles, a sign of Scots beauty. :rotfl:Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

Why can't we wear what we like? I'm a comfy dresser. I don't really care what others think I look like.
I prefer to be judged on my head and heart thank you very much. Which is how I look at others.
The trouble is that people do judge us by our dress - particularly professionally - that's a fact whether we like it or not.Really interesting to get everyone's perspective on this although I feel like I need to clarify a few thing:

I read your initial post as a 'hey look at me, aren't I cool for my age... not boring like some other people who are wearing beige cardies'.
If you have the confidence to wear that tutu outfit then good for you... BUT I don't get the point of your opening post really... what did you want us to say? Well done? Go you?
I'll do a deal... I won't make assumptions about you wearing a tutu if you don't make assumptions about others wearing beige!:hello:0
