What does dress your age really mean????

Ok, the shoe thing:
High top Converse
Low Converse
Trainers
Work shoes
Red suede flat shoes
I can't-believe-they're-not-birkenstocks
3 pairs strappy sandals
long patent purple boots
Mid calf turquoise boots
Blue flowery wellies
Vintage t-bar court shoes (for my 1940s school trip; they should make another appearance)
Bright orange brogues
Hiking boots
"crocs" as slippers (in my defence I buy these as they last a lot longer than proper slippers and have only worn them outdoors by accident!)
16 pairs, I'm a little impressed that it's so many! I'm not "into shoes" but I do love a lairy shoe, see purple patent boots and orange brogues above :rotfl:
p.s. no beige cardigans here but I do love a waterfall, drapey cardi. I'm more often found in skinny jeans and t shirts, or something I've made myself out of an old shirt. They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.0 -
Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

I'm reading this thread with interest. I realised the other day that someone who I thought was at least ten years older than me (I'm mid thirties) is actually my age. Now I'm wondering if I dress too young or if she dresses older. I do have a habit of buying clothes I like and then wearing them for years, just rediscovered a blouse that I loved ten years ago. I do love a cardigan though, I have a wide range of them. I've noticed that most people with long hair tend to be younger, why is that?0

The trouble is that people do judge us by our dress - particularly professionally - that's a fact whether we like it or not.
An 80 year old in a skeleton t-shirt and black tutu sends out a very different signal to the one sent out by an 8 year old wearing them......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Some people do, yes, but not all. It is a very shallow way to judge people. I wouldn't wish to be friends with such a person.0 -

I agree, it's why you SHOULD dress smartly for an interview.
Would you give a job to someone wearing a croptop and leggings?.....................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

It's not just interviews, people are judged by others on what they display to others. Which is why I wouldn't get on a bus being driven by a bloke wearing a tutu and Nazi regalia.
As someone married to a Jew I wouldn't really want to get on any bus with any one in nazi regalia, But it again is about appropriate clothing for the time. A bus driver should dress in a safe, responsible and identifiable way on the bus company's time. If he is on the bus as a passenger, I'm happy to sit next to him and his tutu.0 -

I'd say the majority of people make judgements based on appearance. It's actually part of human nature and our survival instinct.
We look and judge whether someone is friend or foe, whether they pose a threat or whether they are a good mate etc...
When getting on crowded public transport for instance, you make choices about who to sit next to... do you go to the lady in twin set and pearls, the girl with tattoos and piercings, the man in a suit or the teenage boy dressed in a white tracksuit and baseball cap??? All may well be equally lovely BUT you will make your choice based on your view of the world and how they appear to you.
To think that people don't make judgements every day based on appearance is just a little bit naïve.:hello:0
