I paid less than £100 for mine 5 years ago (MSE bargain) and I have no doubt they will last another 5yrs, so I'd call that rather good value for money, don't you think? :)

Out of interest, how much do you pay each year for your Sainsbury fakes?

I pay about £20, but often have vouchers, so your UGGs will have to last at least 6 winters to be better value.

My friends' and my sister in law's definitely don't last that long, and they have to make an effort to try and keep them dry. At least with the cheaper ones if I do get caught in torrential rain and they get tide marks/stink of wet suede its not such a big loss.

If you're happy to pay more, you go ahead, I won't call your shoes 'dreadful'.

So how many pairs of shoes do most people own? I've got...

    Walking boots
    Steel toe cap boots
Two pairs of walking type trainers, one in black leather.
Two pairs of strappy Mary-Jane type sandals with walking soles. (Decathlon, £30, the best summer shoes I've ever owned.)
Three pairs of Crocs including a fur lined pair as winter slippers.
Black leather ankle boots with low heel.
Black leather dress shoes with low heel
Dressy black sandals also with low heel.

So that's eleven pairs, which rather surprises me tbh. You may notice the absence of high heels, I've got balance issues so to wear high heels I'd need a zimmer tbh, I still have to take a stick if I wear dress shoes. I prefer shoes with good non slip soles which rules out 95% of even vaguely smart shoes. I can't think of anything worse than having to wear uncomfortable shoes so sod what I look like, I wear comfy shoes 95% of the time and only put on dressy shoes when I really have to, like for a wedding or evening event. Even then I've been known to take comfy shoes with me to change in and out of in the car.

Once upon a time though I had an addiction to very high heeled court shoes in different colours of leather, not one I could really afford tbh but I always had at least one pair and wore them to death. My physiotherapist says that's quite probably one contributing factor to my balance problems now though, wearing them so much threw my spine out of whack. If I'd been more sensible about what I wore then I could probably have worn them longer. Oh well, hindsight is 20:20 vision, no?

I have balance and mobility problems. I still wear heels when I can. I was quite upset the other night I had to wear flip flops as not even flats would fit on my poor swollen feet, and my balance was off. I wasn't lame though!

I have....lots of shoes. Too many to list.

Well, seeing we've all gone into confessional mode, I'm going to own up to wearing Crocs quite a lot of the time. I did say comfort was my number one priority!

Aldi did some fab fleece lined (fake) Crocs the other year - I love mine! They're strictly for going in the garden - but the other day, some friends came round and I wore them, paired with floral PJ bottoms :D One of my friends genuinely complemented me on my trousers  (a bloke of course!)

    I can't be bothered reading more than the first page cos I got bored, but;
    1) what's wrong with beige cardies? I don't think I have one, but I'm getting the urge to buy one now just because no-one else would dream of having one,
    and
    2) In the spirit of this thread I'm a tall brunette/blonde/redheaded/platinum grey long-legged willowy 20-something with gravity defying boobs and flawless skin (I can be anything I like on the internet right?)

I turned 60 this year and love skinny jeans, jeggings and leggings, although I tend to keep the latter to when I'm at home and with something quite long over them! I've never been one for wearing skirts, although when I was young I wore them VERY short and that is definitely a no no these days. The only other concession to age is no skin tight stuff and definitely shoes that are comfortable, although I've never been able to wear high heels. Just can't walk in them! Wedges are fine though. I also still wear bikinis on holiday, although this thread has made me wonder whether I should. Is there a cut-off age for bikinis, anyone?

On another note, how do people feel about hair colour?
I am 38 (just lol) and have brown with a teeny bit of grey, and feel like it is now or never for some more bold colour. Currently am brown with a hint of purple, short but growing it out, and would love to do something a bit bolder...........mutton as lamb?

I personally like hair in hair colours that occur naturally.
I think when you give up colouring your grey is when you are old;)

Nooo, clothes are primarily for warmth and protection from the environment, followed by modesty and after that for conveying social messages. Or should the last two be the other way round?

Anyway, it would be pretty silly to choose your outfit for climbing Ben Nevis on the basis of enhancing your appearance dontcha think? Or high heels to dig a ditch in, or a low cut top to mop up vomit in the ward. Etc etc. Enhancing your appearance is one of the reasons to choose a particular garment over another but it certainly shouldn't be the top reason every time. I'm off to dig the garden soon and I can assure you, what I look like will be the last thing on my mind. (I'll be wearing old grubby cut off chinos, an old shirt of OH's as sun protection, steel toed work boots and a floppy hat, if anyone is interested. I'd be wearing my Crocs though if I wasn't digging.)

Enhancing your appearance while dressing appropriately for what you are doing.
Wearing the correct type of clothes for what you are doing will enhance your appearance. You would look ridiculous trying to dig a ditch in heels........

I colour my hair conker brown. I like a little darker than my natural shade, but as I'm not very good at doing it myself, and can't afford to have it done at a salon I tend not to try outlandish colours because I'd end up looking like a skunk with stripes of hair that I'd missed. If the dye is similar to natural colour then people can't tell so much if you've made a bad job of it :)

I have recently started using permanent, because foams are so much easier to use. They don't last on my hair though. The hairdresser suggested using two packs. I recently tried a new masque style, and used 2 packs. I absolutely love it, and it was so easy to use that I might go for a more reddish colour next time, as I'm more confident of being able to apply it without looking skunky :)

EDIT - this is the one I used http://www.colormask.schwarzkopf.co.uk/colormask/uk/en/home.html
