To text or not to text? That is the question

  • You'd never make a detective. ;)

Perhaps that's true. But in this case I hadn't really tried to figure it out. Just commenting that reading through these posts, I'd imagined a guy writing but others hadn't.
  • I agree DUTR, that it's good if people can write without giving gender away. In the context of OP's question I was curious about responders' genders because I was wondering to what extent guys and girls would interpret in similar or different ways about what's going on this guy's mind.

I'd like to know what guys think - my guess is someone has come along who's younger and better looking - bye

It's not an issue though, everybody is different and as you know one hat doesn't fit all, please see my other thread I'm about to post as I would be interested in your view.

I was the opposite, I thought lady (abrupt one n all) but then re-reading the later posts and yours changed my mind.
But it's good if posters can post without giving away their gender by the way they post.

    Me too, :o

Wanted to say I absolutely agree with you texting back saying one woykd have.to reschedule would be childish attemt to resque one's self estime. By everyone's standards. Saying you have "issues " because of believing so was not only rude but wrong and defensive.
The word "dilemma" comes from Greek where "di" means two and "lemma" means premise. Refers usually to difficult choice between two undesirable options.
Often people seem to use this word mistakenly where "quandary" would fit better.

This sounds like your best bet would be some spiritual healing in Tibet , not internet dating. I think internet dating is contraindicated in your present condition.( thinking to myself : if only it was as easy to diagnose myself as it is with others )

Not necessarily; often if I have arranged to meet up for a loose coffee and I can't make it I say 'I don't think I can make it' - doesn't mean I am never going to see the chum again...it just means something has come up.

Why do people have to take umbridge just because a person can't make a date; it's not the end of the world! Be cool about it and maybe - just maybe - someone might not think you are desperate and gagging for it. Acting like you've been promised a million and it's been swiped away by some cruel twist of fate is ludicrous. It's just a date.

I think the context of the text was slightly different to I don't think I can make it, it was I don't think so and her name.

And to be fair I think if you don't respond full stop, it doesn't send out a message like you are desperate and gagging for it.

The texter could have said, sorry, I cant make sunday but I can make Tuesday, unless someone has plans for every day of the week it would have been easy enough to say, cant do this week, how about next week?

Incorrect. Not by everyone's standards. We are all different. Otherwise there would be a manual about what to do in these situations.

I'd respond to a text, other wouldn't. If someone gets a response and think one thing then it really is their issue to sort out...not mine! I'm not being defensive, I really would have other things to be doing. But then my shell doesn't cave in just because someone else finds something different to do. It happens - get over it.

You can only guess at the reason, but your default guess is one that denigrates yourself the most.
This suggests you are at a very low ebb and ties in with earlier threads around having to 'settle' at 48.
I personally think it far far more likely that this was a poster who gets off on hooking people in and then dropping them.

The reality is, at 48, we are not going to compete looks wise with someone of 30.
But then personally, even at 20, there were cohorts of girls far prettier than me - it is the way of the world and perhaps some of us got used to that quicker younger because we had to, lol.

We all have a lot more to bring to our relationships at our age through life experience than just looks and for many men it isn't just about 'looks' but also kindness, fun, a beaming smile, good company, stillness, shared hobbies, unshared hobbies, understanding, cherishing.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

'I don't think so Jane' can mean a whole host of things. 'I don't think so as my nan has fallen down the stairs' to 'I don't think so I'd never lower myself in a million years'. Who knows? Who really cares!
