A articule on broadbandchecker.com about these price hikes exlains that plusnet will charge £1.50 per month surcharge if you do not have line rental with them!

Plusnet seem to want to charge me for not having line rental with them, that means that i need to be careful that if i dont switch line rental i will have to be at least over £150 per month better off than plusnet, and whilst i do not mind shopping around i want to do this at my lesuire

Just feel that this is in reality a way of saying what ever we quote you for your broadband it will cost £1.50 more - and that is not clear ?
    Mortgage balance £131,843.22
Standard term left 19y 6m (finish in 2040!)
    over payment target for 2020 = £700
    term left with over-payments  16y 5M
    Mortgage neutral account = £2236.00
    :)

    From their website:
If you opt to switch your phone service to Plusnet, we'll reduce your monthly broadband price by £2.50 for as long as you keep your phone line with us.

The £1.50 surcharge for broadband only customers applies to those on legacy 'Value' and 'Extra' accounts. If the email we send to you pays no mention to it then it doesn't apply to you.

That £2.50 is for new customers signing up today on one of the current 'Essentials' or 'Unlimited' products. It was introduced back in June.

Another reason not to switch to Plusnet then!

    Hi,

I have been reading this thread with interest, as *all* companies have/will be putting their prices up this year (including mine). But on all the few forums I post on, I haven't seen anyone act as vociferously as you have to such a price increase.

But a contract is a two way street, and both you and the company are both covered by such changes in a contract. And they not illegal either.

So when faced with such changes, a user has two choices -

Accept it and stay, or choose to leave. In which case (as Bob Pullen suggests above) you may be offered discounts to keep your business.

And those are really the only two options you have. Hope you didn't mind me saying.

I'm surprised that you think it correct for Plusnet and their ilk to ride roughshod over their customers.
Your support does not help consumer rights at all.
Your statement that they may offer discounts to keep my business is puzzling.
Isn't that what I did on this two year fixed term contract that Plusnet reneged on within four months?
You've seen Plusnet 's response, what makes you think that they will keep to any new contract?
Will they guarantee a new fixed term contract then hike prices in another 4 months, citing exactly the same reasons as they have given for this breach of contract?
Plusnet have said they can for as long as I use their services.
They have no credibility and should be questioned on their shabby practices at every chance.
I also believe that their defence is illegal under the present legislation on unfair contracts.

Did you ever have a fixed-price contract?
In your posts, you sometimes refer to it as "my new two year fixed price contract" and sometimes as "this two year fixed term contract": quite different things!

I suspect it was never fixed-price, whatever impression you may have got.
If the T&C's says they can increase the prices, but if they do you have the right to terminate the contract without penalty, then that seems reasonable to me.

I have 11 months remaining on my Plusnet contact, which I took out in January. The contract was Line Rental (paid upfront), Talk Anytime and Fibre Optic Broadband.

My question is as I will be hit by the increased charges on my Talk Plan, will I be able to cancel my whole contract (including line rental) and be reimbursed for the unused line rental?

    Nobody likes a price rise.
Sooner or later, no matter how much you protest on this thread, you`ll have to speak to them.

When you do talk to them and explain your position they will make you an offer.
Then you either stay or go.

Maybe you should switch to TalkTalk.

The talk anytime is going up by 50p .Hardly exhorbitant.Yes the line rental is also going up but with the offer of paying up front for a year and saving money they do at least give you the option to save money.Broadband stays the same, and with their loyalty offers i am more than happy with them.

What doesn't go up in price these days?

You'll be looking to pay an extra 50p each month so yes you'd avoid paying early termination fees across the whole contract. The Line Rental Saver payment is non-refundable though. Are you actually thinking of leaving or is this a hypothetical question?
