MSE News: TalkTalk and Plusnet customers to be hit by price hikes

Why don't they just be honest and say "We make billions in profit but that profit has been down a bit lately so we are increasing your bills to bring our profits back up again."
:
As much as I admire your sentiment and agree with you, they don't make billions in profit.
They had profits of £184 million from March 2012 - March 2013, from a total revenue of £1.67 billion. That's about 11% profit.

Prices always go up and even with the increase TT is still the cheapest of the whole lot.
Nobody can match their current line rental alone of £9-50 a month.
(£114 a year upfront)
The Essentials package is currently £6-50 but hardly anyone pays that much.
Long standing customers get £1-50 off permanently, plus what they can haggle.
Even taking the full amount of £6-50 plus £9-50 totalling £16 for BB and phone calls etc., no one can beat it.0 -
Ring them up and argue the toss about loyalty discounts first - it works more often than people think!
Phoned up today and managed to get 24 months of unlimited broadband for £9.99 a month, dropping from £17.99 for the 60GB package
Plus a new router (although if it's anything like the previous free router I got last year, will probably remain in it's box)0 -
Mr Plusnet, just to be absolutely clear
1 I was out of contract and leaving Plusnet and Retentions persuaded me to stay by offering me a new two year fixed contract.
2 You don't dispute that the new contract fixed charges for two years
3 You maintain that my agreement to the first contract several years ago will always apply no matter what is agreed in any subsequent contract.
3 This first contract allowed you to increase charges so the new fixed price contract is not valid
4 The only incentive for me to not only stay with Plusnet but sign up for a two year term was having charges fixed for two years
5 Is Plusnet not in breach of contract for not adhering to the terms of my new two year fixed price contract?
6 Is Plusnet admitting that Retentions lied to me as there is no such thing as a fixed price contract?0 -
It is not rude to point out that what you have posted is factually incorrect.
You have been informed that they will:
"be increasing the notice period you need to give before leaving us from 10 days to 14 days. This means that if you are thinking of leaving, you'll need to let us know 14 days in advance of doing so. If you choose not to give this notice, please be aware that you might be subject to additional charges on your final bill"
This is a change to the current term already posted in this thread above by the PN rep which you obviously did not read:
47. If we have made a change which is to your material disadvantage, you will not have to pay a charge (excludes any charges or payments we have deferred) if you decide to end your agreement early, unless the price guide says otherwise. However, once we have told you about such a change, you must let us know that you want to end the agreement within 10 days.
You have been informed of the changes to their current terms & conditions which is
How many days do you have left to inform them that you wish to leave?
Espresso -You accuse me of being unable to understand plain English - that is rude. If you had said 'no you are wrong' that would be blunt but not rude.
You seem to be a apologist for Plusnet and are defending them despite what I see as a lack of clarity and candour. They bury the right to move in the small print at the bottom of the email (yes it is indeed there on close inspection), and I at first missed the clause 'without moving to another provider' in the text. I expect companies to play fair and I do not expect to have read small print or messages over 3 pages of a forum to get the simple facts.0 -

Very true, even with full price line rental we're on an old package with TT and I can't find anything cheaper. Paying around 10pm after increases+line rental for free global evening and weekend calls, unlimited downloads, 1571, caller ID. We are however approaching our budgetary limit so would have to sacrifice something we currently receive to get a cheaper package. Either way at the moment we can't do better.0 -
I've called talk talk today to discuss the price increase after viewing the price increase on this website. Ofcom state you are entitled to leave penalty free if your provider increase your package during contract. I managed to negotiate a £5 a month discount of my bill which isn't bad considering they were only going to increase by 55p per month. They started off by offering me the 55p pet month back in a oneoff payment but I held out for the £5 per month discount. If I had cancelled which I was entitled to I would have had to send the view box back which is mine in 10 months. So its worth a phone call.....0

Even on the PN forum someone else has posted it is "confused.com" and Mr Pullen "believes" certain changes are correct. They've certainly made a complete horses backside of these price increases!
If a PN rep. is not sure, it's no wonder customers are having to ask for clarification.0 -
