So anyway, are we all agreed that using the shock feature is a bad thing?0

Phones/TVs/Tablets/PCs/Laptops etc. all advertise functions that they have in which users dont use or have no need to use, just because it has a shock function does not mean it will be used. even the more expensive ones on ebay have shock functions, but you control if this function is used or not, the cheaper ones on ebay you have no control as they are purely shock collars.0 -

Yes thats why i was never going to use the shock feature, which i have mentioned many times
Never going to use it intentionally maybe, but as mentioned by a few posters, this is an extremely cheaply made device and as such, could probably fail at any time. (the very fact that the one you purchased is already faulty shows this).
How would you feel (or rather, how would your dog feel), if it failed whilst being worn but instead of failing to give an electrical outout,it failed so that it was giving constant shocks)?
If you think that your dog is agressive now, try getting a collar off it whilst it's being electrocuted.0 -

when i say agressive it is that it will only go for dogs that go past our gate, as he bolts for the gate barking loudly. hes OK on lead.
comments like your is unwarranted as you dont know how these work as most likely you have never owned one.0 -

How what work? Dog or electrocuting collar?0 -

Actually I think that there is genuinely a risk that the shock function could be triggered accidentally or by a fault in the device.
The only safe way to avoid this is to get one which simply does not have it at all.0 -

Totally wrong about not knowing how it works I'm afraid.
Give me a box of old electronic components and I will knock you up a working shock collar in no time.
I've been an electronics tinkerer for most of my life, and the innards of one of these devices is basically a radio receiver which operates an electronic switch (transistor), which allows current to flow from a battery.
This in turn goes to a small inverter circuit to change it to AC, from there to a series of transformers which ramp the output up to about 2000 to 3000 volts AC.
You are correct however in thinking that I've never owned a shock collar.
This is because I'm an animal lover and don't believe in torture to train an animal. (and irrespective of what you think, giving high voltage shocks to a dog is torture).
The advert for what you purchased refers to it as a "static shock". This is total sh1te as static electricity is an extremely short burst of DC electricity as opposed to your collar that gives pulses of alternating current which is far more noticable and can do far more harm.0 -
