What about the personal feelings of the driver?
What if he was running away from urinating dogs and axe murderers?
I bet it was raining and he was part time worker, perhaps an old age pensioner who took the job to keep up his meagre pensions. Perhaps he was working to save up for his grandchildren....you never know AND YOU, YOU didnt even answer the door to him, for the sake of him being early.

you should become a stand up comediam, your talents are lost on this thread Mr Sports :rolleyes:0 -
Have been keeping an eye on this one over last few days. I do think enough is enough as it is really quite nasty here. There is no need for it. OP had a totally valid point and she has got more than enough vitriolic comments. You do what you need to do when it occurs. She had a totally crying baby and I know what that is like. Door bell ringing - no if not convenient.
Board guides where are you - close this one as it isn't helping anyone are you - close this one as it isn't helping anyone.

Yup agreed with you two.
Grannybroom "Where are you board guide person, ive been picking on people and calling the names, hurry up and lock this thread before someone gets a sense of humour other than me"
It was you swearing at people, not me. Oh no, it was you. I know because its written in the thread. I saw it.

or it might just be that the driver started his shift at 7pm and had 14 drops to do before 11pm for as little as £20 wages for those hours and sometimes in the middle of the country side in the middle of nowhere, in the dark and the damp with no phone signal and they were a driver short for the night and he was given an extra 2 more drops, and with the 2 extra drops means he cant be in 2 places at the same time, and somebody had to be early, and yes he should of phoned first to ask you first but like 99% of customers they understand but the other 1% they do not appreciate the trouble the drivers have to deal with and yes there are some drivers that do take the ****but most drivers are friendly ,helpful and will bend over backwards to help a customer0

Nah, a "drowing babies" reponse will beat that. Even a "You paid for a service, your right not to answer the door" reponse beat that according to some of the more anal people here.0

Here's my thoughts on what happened.
OP chose a 9-11 slot, come the day of delivery there is only one delivery from 9-11, the OPs. The driver then thinks that the OP might want their shopping early so they go to the home.
The Driver then takes a couple of bags out with him and knocks on the door, he gets no answer but then hears either OP/OPs kids in the background and thinks that they may be busy atm to answer the door. Therefore, he realises someones in so decides to get the rest of the shopping out. Once it's all out, he then keeps knocking on the door but there's no answer. After waiting a bit he then sees the OPs husband who signs for this and the driver leaves. Chances are, the driver was there waiting at the door the whole time waiting for a response as they knew that come 9pm the OP would answer anyway (why else would they book a 9-11 slot) so there was little point hanging about if they could hear them in.
Just my 2 cents, using logic and reason to get an idea of events. I've read the whole topic and can see both sides of the story:
The OP's annoyed as the driver was early, so to 'teach him a lesson' decided not to answer the door untill then (granted, at the precise moment of the first knock the OP couldn't answer, but she then goes on to state that she refused to answer the door untill 9pm which is very Petty IMHO).
This pettyness is where I can see the argument from the other side: I believe that the Driver knew the OP was in, and unloaded all the shopping whilst waiting for the door to be answered, which it was by the husband coming back at 8:45pm, therefore, no real harm was done, other than perhaps some ice cream being out of a freezer for about 20 mins.
In the grand scheme of the world where there is mass murder, famine, and poverty on a daily basis, I think a delivery being 30 mins early is nothing compared to all this.
(Now I'm running off to hide!!!!)0 -
Carolt - just want to say I'm totally with you on this. I use ocado, they call if they are going to be early or late to check if that's OK. Waitrose is a bit more expensive than tesco, but not as much as you might think - have a look. All Art is the transfiguration of the commonplace
