When I had cats we used to wrap them in a towel so only their head poked out, pop the tablet in, put hand round mouth so they couldn't reopen it then gently rub their throat area to make them swallow it. Easy peasy!

Oh and another SFD day for me, yay! 8/20

Well I blew my food budget yesterday!

I went to Asda instead of Tescos. I have a Tesco clubcard and I'm in the Christmas club so I m trying to build up points for my Xmas food shopping. However, I went to Asda to see what offers they had, problem is it's a good 10 minute walk from Tesco, so I thought as I loaded my shopping trolley, if I don't buy these special offers now, go to Tescos and find they don't have the same offers; I won't bother going back to Asda I'll just spend more in Tescos (if you follow).

The result is I am £10.44 over my food budget. As I bought food with my debit card earlier in the month instead of on the 0% CC, I am overdrawn, but I am still within budget, with my misc budget (again if you follow).

I got a phone call from Wilkos my slow cooker is in, so will need to collect that and stick it on the CC to avoid going further overdrawn, but it will come from my misc budget, so still on track, I'm confusing myself. I am not sure whether to buyrecipe books (from misc budget) or use internet recipes to save money. I think it would be a pain to keep looking at a laptop for the recipe and instructions.

I also need to get a prescription, if I go to my usual chemist they will charge me £7.85. if I go to another chemist as long as I show them my prescription they will give me the item over the counter at a cost of £4.14. However, I have a repeat prescription service set up with the usual chemist and they probably already have my script.

I will have to cancel the repeat script service and request another script from my doctor to take to the cheaper chemist, or try and get my usual chemist to give me the item for the over the counter price. What a palava!

I now know I am happier when not doing extra shifts at work. I got a request to work tonight as someone had phoned in sick. I said yes (but then felt throughly annoyed and miserable about having to do it) because I cancelled those other extra shifts (which I am regretting due to the money lost, but not in terms of time, sleep and stress free existence gained) and I've have now worked out how many more extra shifts I need to clear my loan by the end of the year, just 8 If I want to clear it by December using November's pay.

Just to be clear, I don't mind doing my scheduled shifts, but I've had it with doing extra shifts. However, I will do extras (well 8 of them anyway) to clear my loan, as that will be one less debt and a huge saving.

There are lots of people off in October on leave, as much as I hate to, I might knock myself out with the extras in October to clear the loan a whole year early.

    Hi guys and gals,

Speedy check in. I'm at 8/20 sfd's as off yesterday. Today was a Spend day- Fuel and some bits for the festival/hen weekend i'm going to next weekend. The festival expense is from a separate budget (mostly Birthday money I have saved- sad as it is, but this is also my equivalent to a holiday this year)....Hawaii still seems like a distant dream but with only 1 debt left, each day I get through is a day closer! :D

  • Morning everyone

Well, what a difference a semi decent sleep makes. I don't feel quite as hopeless today as I did yesterday. :D Bank balance is still apalling, but cat is much better. Thanks hismissus for the tip. I hid the tablets in little balls of expensive 'treat' catmeat last night and this morning, and he's taken them no bother so far. Just hope he doesn't twig on with what I'm doing. He's also not much worse for wear in terms of his experience. The vet told me to keep him in for a few days but he flat refuses to use the litter tray, so he went out for 3 hours at 3am - came in for food and meds this morning and has gone back out again.

So I need to count how much money I actually have left in my purse to see me through. I'm also going to start a new sealed pot to try and get my emergency fund up and running again. A few pence here and there soon adds up. I should probably look through my moneyboxes etc about the house too. Does anyone know where you can take your moneybags of change - can you just turn up at the bank with them?

I've promised the kids that we will go to the soft play today. They both want to go for ice cream too, and are prepared to use their pocket money, so I can't really say no to them.

I usually just count the right amount of change into each money bag and take them to a branch of my bank. They weigh them and pay them into my account all free of charge.

Wannabe - Hubby does this too and never had any bother. I know a few people who use the coin machines in supermarkets to get supermarket vouchers but they take a commision!

Hoping for a SFD today, no need to spend so no reason to.
  • Thanks both of you. I'll put that on the list of things to do as well then - me and the kids can crack the moneyboxes open later and then go to the bank and pay it all in. Shame my closest branch is quite far but no big deal.

Hoping it may be an ok haul.

    Morning!

Sorry to hear about the cat wannabee - but glad the vet has worked her magic!!! Am sure moggy will be back on his feet in no time with your care and attention!!!

Plan for today: Cook up batch food for the next few days. If I can make it through Thur and Fri then I think I'll be able to make it through until pay day.

    Have a good one all!!!

    :)

    Morning!

I've had SFDs the last couple of days but not managed to get on on my laptop to update properly. (Still on my phone now).

Sorry to hear about poorly cats.

In relation to banking change, I used to work at 1 tax payer owned bank and we always accepted change, usually bagged correctly. As a 1 off its fine, it's when the bank suspects its for a business they get ars3y. Saying that I'm with H3BC and they have a change machine like you find in supermarkets - you just pour your coins in and it goes straight to your account no commission taken.

    Hi :),

Just though I'd pass on a tip I learnt trying to give my own cats tablets - a dab of marmite on the tablet usually gets it eaten. Not much though because its very high in salt although I always had that opinion that antibiotics and salt inside the cat was better than antibiotics outside the cat.

Hope poorly puss feels better soon
