  • Hello all!!

Uffff we've just made it to Fort William in Scotland!!
This morning drove from the north west to Glasgow and before
I hand back the car to my husband I felt my legs and my rear numbed ha ha!
We stopped at Kings hotel in Glencoe for a coffee only but
I could smell the lovely food! I bet if I followed my temptations I would have had a glass or two of wine! Perhaps staying in the hotel then taking an easy Sunday morning and my desire of being thrifty during this trip would have gone out of the window!
Instead feeling brave like William Wallace ha ha
Just getting ready food from Morrison cos too late x cooking n still the tent needs erecting!
    Tomorrow is Ben Nevis!!
    Hugs to all of you!

I hope you have a fab time in Fort William. I was there just last week.

If you have time a drive round to Caol and Benavie is worthwhile - there are lovely walks along the shore and the Caledonian canal is there. At Benavie there is a series of locks called Neptune's Staircase on the canal. There are fab views across to Ben Nevis from the path beside Neptune's Staircase. We spent a pleasurable hour or so watching some boats travel up and down the staircase. Enjoy your holiday and I hope the weather is good for you.

Ok not exactly sure how to update - but copying everyone else!

1/20 sfd - Classing today as a sfd - I did go to hire a wallpaper stripper but I don't actually pay until I take it back on Monday - so first sfd under my belt. Also managed to get whole room stripped which I didn't expect

0/£3 charity - not been food shopping so not had a chance to do this yet - My Mum helps a community centre and I think they take food donations so will investigate tomorrow

0/£10 beauty - shouldn't need anything at all this month

0/£15 days out - this will be a challenge when the kids come back from their Dad's in 2 weeks - been investigating free days out in the are and there are loads but transport etc will cost more than £5

0/£100 pocket money - not spent anything so far - but that's because I have been so busy with decorating and work (£100 is a guess as this is one area I am rubbish at keeping track of so I now have a spending diary) I do have my friends 40th party next week so that will take a chunk of this - so I really do need to be careful with the rest.

treat 0/200 groceries - not been shopping yet there is enough in to do us a few days but will be doing an online shop tomorrow for delivery Monday - do I count that as a spend day tomorrow or Monday when it's delivered?

0/£50 fuel - again not needed to put any fuel in car yet. I have no big journeys planned so I should get next weeks work journeys with what I have in my tank

My budget is done - this month is a very expensive month with my Son's birthday and my Mum's 70th. We were planning to go out for a birthday meal and my mum said we should all pay for our won - which is all well and good but my brother and I would pay for my Mum's between us and I have to pay for me and my 4 kids so not exactly a cheap do! I was thinking I might offer to have a meal at mine instead - I could ask my brother to provide the wine and cheese and I'm sure I could do a really nice meal for a fraction of the price and it would be much more relaxed for me being at home with the kids rather than in an expensive restaurant.

I also have uniforms to buy and my son starts secondary school so needs loads of things.

I didn't think I would be able to pay any extra off my CC this month but if I can stick to my budget I have £200 to put towards the highest interest card - would you pay it off now forcing me to stick to my budget but with a risk of having to use it if any additional expenses crop up? or would you keep it in the bank and pay it to the CC at the end of the month?

Sorry for the long post - just trying to get my head round this challenge and get back onto the budgeting wagon

    Evening everyone!!!

Am caught up on everyone's posts...

Pleased (and amazed) to report that...

    Today = SFD number 3

My mate's juicing diet is working wonders for my budgeting because when we go out we're not eating out so I've taken food out with me and round to his.

Today went to Poole and bless him, he paid for petrol, and I spent nothing. We are away next week and so will make sure I pay for petrol then.

    Anyhow - am well pleased!!!

    See you all tomorrow!

  • Oooh check in before midnight! Get me!

SFD for me thank goodness. Made it to the beach and in his eagerness to never be outdone, my 62 year old Pa was egging me to get into the water as soon as we got there. I think if he had to wait he may have chickened out and my brother woulda never let him live down the shame.

My goodness the shrieks were probably heard in London. The sky was overcast with the sun struggling to get through but off we trudged into the water and it was FREEZING! We weren't the only lunatics braving the sea mind you and I quite enjoyed it until I saw jelly-fish through my wee face mask. That was me done! Although around lunchtime the sun came out. Figures.

Glad to see people checking in and really getting to grips with this SFD malarky. The fact you are all thinking about your spends is the most important thing...

Allie by all means join in and lurk and leave comments where you want but ultimately I generally want everyone in from day 1.. but nive to have you along for the ride and even bigger well done on being debt free!

Right I am off to bed. Another visitation tomorrow to see MountainMum in the middle of nowhere...( see the more honest you all are the more little friends want to join in...:p)

Mrs Toast.... have you a new baby???

Right now... bowl of cheerios and then bed!

    Onwards and Upwards!!!

Iwillsuceed- I love your attitude and William Wallace comment! Good resisting on the food!

judi24- I think SFDs are what you decide, but personally I'd count them as when ou actually open your purse as such. So wallpaper stripper payment on Monday & online shop will also debit Monday..? Meal at home sounds good! I'm in similar dilemmas over my Mums 65th next week, though I've no children to feed! Re overpayments, it depends how you handle your money. Personally I like things moved and out my acc so I'm not tempted and its not 'looking' at me, for instance there's £100 sat in an acc waiting to pay a cheque and I hate it! It's mocking me! Haha. Perhaps pay 1/2 now even?

Update from me- £8.80 spent tonight on one round of drinks (DH & I) only. Other 3 rounds bought by others. So a nice LSD for me :)

Good morning. Today should be a SFD. Got a friends child's first birthday bbq but bought some burgers etc and a present with yesterday groceries. Oh paid for the present as he still owed me money for beer that was included in a shop. Being pregnant I'm mean and dont see why I should pay for beer with grocery money if i cant have any ;). He should be happy he's allowed to drink them in the house.

:j Good morning you lovely lot! :j

Wow, that was a bit too energetic for my liking, it is Sunday after all! The eternally jumping Jack smiley is incredibly inspiring, however it is wearing me out just watching him on his eternal jumping loop!

    Annnyyyywaaaaay,

Not doing so well with accumulating my SFD's at the moment. I have acquired 1 so far this month. Today *should* have been SFD numero 2, but alas I am short of butter for my fudge gift that I am making this morning. Darn it! So I shall be dragging my heels to the lil local shop once it opens!

NSK - I snorted at the lovely imagery you portrayed of your trip to the seaside....I may have even heard a faint shriek on the wind yesterday, and there was me thinking it was a bird of prey... :)

Fingers crossed for the safe arrival of Baby Toast

Enjoy the rest of your weekend's, whatever you are doing- relaxing, holidaying, stripping, working etc..

Thanks, I will use this month to get my head around this challenge and I will be with you from day one next month. I will post my budget when I get home from holiday today (traveling home from Isle of Skye).
  • Morning all.
Almost got my first sfd yesterday. Went out with hubby for some shopping he wanted to get in (so he was paying), and just after the checkout I saw a collection for the Samaritans. I know it's not food bank, but the Samaritans are a charity quite close to my heart (hubby suffers terribly with mental health stuff and they've helped me out more than once), so I took £3 out of my purse and into the box. I doubt I would have thought much about it without this challenge so thanks Kat.
Other than that it was a sfd.

Today, kids want to go for a long walk and a picnic at a local park. In theory that should be a sfd but it's not often that these days happen without an ice cream somewhere. Maybe I should get them to pay for their own... or get hubby to pay - I never have an ice cream (as I'm a snob and only eat the posh stuff). Just seems a bit mean on my part.
