    Hi everybody,

Day 3 already and I've just got around to posting my budget for the month  Some of the amounts will seem a bit random but I have a couple of store/gift cards that have balances on them, plus my money is in dollars so I've converted to UK to give some context.

Budget is based on 2 adults and 3 fish.

    Groceries $185.99 (116.06gbp)
    Supermarket store card $114.31 (71.44gbp)
    Petrol -me $140.00 (87.50gbp)
    Petrol -Hubby $240.00 (150.00gbp)
    Misc $20.00 (12.50gbp)
    Coffee card $37.42 (23.39)
    Charity $4.80 (3.00gbp)
    TOTAL $742.22 (463.89gbp)

SFD 2/20 ( I get tied up in knots with keeping a record of these so this will probably be out of sync by the end of the month).

I've done a menu plan for the week and although I have quite a bit in my store cupboards I still have 17 items on my shopping list. I won't type the entire list but it will be interesting to see if I go over the 17 items.

This month I will be using a diary to keep track of the spends as I have some money in the house 'left over' from last month's allocation and I don't want to have to withdraw anything from the bank. I usually use the envelope/jam jar method :)

Okay then peeps, happy weekend and onwards and upwards.

Edited as Hubby had a store gift card in his wallet,,,,,,,,and now it's mine!:rotfl:

    Today's update for me.

I phoned B*rclaycard the other day to close a CC account, but they said I could have 6 mths 0%apr on purchases, so I thought I could pay my loan off quicker by putting spends on my CC. This would be a great idea if I actually had my pin no. for my card ( CC part of the debt-busting, when it expired it wasn't renewed so they had to send me a new card). I have already put the money for food shopping for this month in an over payment for my loan, so I was hoping to get my pin today so I could put my food shopping on the CC, but it still hasn't arrived.

My plans were further scuppered, as I had 2 T*sco coupons 1 for £5 off a £40 shop and £3 off a £30 shop, both to be used by tomorrow. I was determined to go shopping with or without the new CC. However, I was very disappointed in what T*sco had to offer...in offers I still managed to spend £26.79, but that meant I didn't use the coupons. I then spent in w*lko, then spent in S*insbury's so a total of £44.74 spent, that didn't go on the CC.

That's it for spends now, as I think/hope I can make this shop last 2 weeks, and there's nothing else I want, well there is...it's just going to have to wait until I am debt free.

Doing well on this challenge. I was tested last night as DH & friends wanted me to come out with them, but I'd rather spend my "pocket money" on something else! Thought DH would be unhappy about it, but he was okay.

I pinned a copy of the first post detailing this challenge to the fridge and discussed it with DH, who nodded. So here are my updates:

    1. SFDs 1/20. Milk shopping yesterday and today I need to get a wedding card for friends wedding tonight plus a couple drinks at the wedding.
    2. I already keep all receipts. I have a large paperclip to keep them together and then enter the purchases into my Home Budget app
    3. Budgets for the month:
£120 for Lidl shops - spent £200 on groceries last month, but it wasn't the weeklyish shops that added it, it was all the little trips to Sainies or Tesc0s. So banned on those trips. Planned next Lidl shop- Monday. Eeking it out a few days, as do usually do it every Saturday. And going to draw it out in cash and out into envelopes as read on here.£0/120

£25 Milk - we drink A LOT of milk. And currently have Lactofree which is more expensive. I cut it (lactose) out a year ago due to symptoms, apparently I have an intolerance. But I have successfully re-introduced cheese and just not got round to trying the milk again. So I have bought some normal milk and had it this morning. All okay so far. I think switching to from Lactofree to normal will save us loads as a litre is £1.34, £1 if on offer whereas I got 6 pints for £1.99. So spends on this budget yesterday stocking up on the offer- £19.99/25

    4. No visits out to cafes etc. I will be going to one on Monday for work purposes, but I'm hoping either I can claim it back or my mentor will pay.

    5. Honesty- 2 friends know about our debts. My Mum is aware but not to the full extent. I will talk more to them this month.

    6. Lunch to work. I do this. I eat a lot, 5-6 meals a day (I'm training). Never buy anything in work.

    7. Planning - this month, as I've said we have a wedding tonight, so re gifting a bottle of Moët we have. And just card to buy. My Mums 65th bday next week and in discussions with my brothers to go in on a gift and go to a food & drink fest rather than restaurant etc. Nothing else on the agenda.

    8. Alcohol- I have cut this back due to my training anyway. But I had planned to do a month alcohol free from 11th (day after my Mums bday as I'll raise a glass then).

    9. Donation. I already donate every month to charity. Granted its not a food bank one, but it's one that means a lot to me. So I'll tick this one as done.

    10. Refusing days out- done this last night! Testing!

    11. Beauty spends. I have been trawling through all my stuff and I think this one is doable. I don't think I should run out of anything either.

    12. Tenner to draw out

Other budgets- £20 p/week pocket money for me & £30 for DH. Other notes- we are on a money generating mission and so far made £270. Have agreed all monies generated will be 2/3 towards debts & 1/3 for "entertainment" (eg meal out with hubby etc). And no CC use.

Longer post than I anticipated! Apologies. Better go and get ready for this wedding reception :)

Keep going DFWs :) We got this!
Debt at LBM June 2013- £31,300
    Debt July 2014- £16,736
    [STRIKE]1 HP, 5 4 3 2[/STRIKE] 1 CC & 2 loans

    DFD: March 2017
    Sealed Pot ~£90

Not quite a NSD but a LSD, only spent £7.30 earlier on odd bits as had breakfast and lunch in and we're heading to a friends for a BBQ now. Shouldn't need to spend anymore today.

  • Hello all!!

Uffff we've just made it to Fort William in Scotland!!
This morning drove from the north west to Glasgow and before
I hand back the car to my husband I felt my legs and my rear numbed ha ha!
We stopped at Kings hotel in Glencoe for a coffee only but
I could smell the lovely food! I bet if I followed my temptations I would have had a glass or two of wine! Perhaps staying in the hotel then taking an easy Sunday morning and my desire of being thrifty during this trip would have gone out of the window!
Instead feeling brave like William Wallace ha ha
Just getting ready food from Morrison cos too late x cooking n still the tent needs erecting!
    Tomorrow is Ben Nevis!!
    Hugs to all of you!
    No debts 🙌

    quick hello from me.
did well to not buy coffee and cake at a meeting this morning, but my DH bought meat for tonight's bbq. Not sure whether to log it or not.
We had a most excellent time with friends and I am very happy to have got something nice to offer them.

tomorrow is Sunday and nothing is open so it should be a spend free day.
    Trying to keep in budget.

  • Wow, what an inspiring thread. Lovely to see how hard everyone is trying. There are some fab ideas on here. I would love to join in if allowed - I am now debt free (so not sure I qualify???) but I am struggling to get off the mark with my savings. Its like I have worked so hard to get to this stage I now just want to spend, spend, spend.

I love the idea of planning a regular donation to the local food bank. I donate irregularly to my local one but will defo be making this part of my monthly plan from now on.

My dream once I have savings in the bank is to move house and also purchase a holiday home in Scotland.
